- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an urban contemporary band and one of the first freestyle music groups to emerge from New York City in the 1980s. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam consisted of Lisa Velez, guitarist/bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley, and drummer/keyboardist Mike Hughes. They were produced by Full Force. This is the story on how they reached success in the 80s and then things went downhill from there.

I still love "I Wonder if I Take you Home". It's one of my favorite songs from the 80's. 😊
Classic!
Yes. I wonder if I take you home. First grown woman song I loved.
As a 12 year old in 1985, I wonder if I take you home video, use to arouse me. Lisa had on that shirt with her tata's jumping around, good God!!!!

O yeah!!!
We're are Her Flowers! N.O.R.E.&Drink Champs or somebody! It's like the music industry just Completely Forgot abt Her & Cult Jam/Full Force! Hell Bow Legged Lou Discovered Nikki Manaj! 🤔 I Wonder Why?!🤷🏾♀️ cuz it almost seems Intentional! They we're Sweeped Wayyyy Under the Rug!🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ cuz they we're Big Time Hitmakers!💜💯💪🏾🔥👏🏾
Who came after watching the movie? 😊
Me I wanna know more about the stud girl that was they background singer
Keeping it real, I was in the music industry back then...and Lisa Lisa's look and style opened the door wide for Paula Abdul and Pebbles. PROMISE! AND the snippet about "Head to Toe" sounding like a Supreme song....E'rrrrbody was saying that.
Wow!
I can see her style influencing Paula Abdul. But Pebbles?
@@vanityposh6348 The Full Force production team behind her was parallel to that of LA and Face with Pebbles.
i never heard any latin beats in they music, as usual they influences was blk american music like r&b, rap & funk , im still shook that most NY actors & rappers have caribean backgrounds 😂
Defintely true! @@thegrandcanyonisegypt2489
“Someone to love me for me”, has always been one of my favorites by them.
Mine too❤
"Wonder if I take you home" is still my favorite.
That jam BUMPS no matter when and where it's played!
That Summer You couldn't go anywhere without hearing that Song
Lò mèjor. The best. Hands down.” 💙❤ Should’ve went further than J-Lo.
She can really sing & yet never was able to reach top-tier status, pèro Jen did.” Adiòs . Love the movie 🍿 tonight on LMN.
In here they mentioned Full force though not in the movie 😮😢?????
Shameful, Lisa is so UNDERRATED ❤⏰🧠
Definitely agree 💯
According to who
Lisa Lisa is the truth!!! Omg I was too young to realize how fine she was
That's the whole point, it's great that she is underrated and not over
Lisa never sold out like JLO did
The only difference between her and J Lo is that Lisa Lisa has actual talent and could actually sing.
Facts
Facts
Also she isn’t desperate like JLO.
@@TheCheekymonkey212 Exactly J-ho tries to hard to showcase talent she doesn't have unlike Lisa she can actually sing, it just flows out of her
Hustlers is jlos autobiography.
Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam made my teenage years awesome. I still jam to their music. They have opened a lot of doors
Yes they definitely did💯
I wasn't a teenager yet but they are definitely on the soundtrack to my life
I remember seeing them open up for New Edition. I was in awe. She was/is absolutely gorgeous.
I saw them a long time ago on the same bill as Expose'. The audience couldn't stay out of our seats, we were all dancing all the time. Good times!
Those were the days🙌🏾💯🙏🏽
Just saw them in November ‘24 with Expose and a few others and I didn’t sit for one min during that 3 hour show! 🔥💃🏻
This takes me back to the days of real music. Breakdancing, roller skating, just all around happy vibes, real music. Noone will ever be able to emulate 80's music. No matter how hard they try. Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam had real, amazing raw voices. All before artists made millions and millions and had to actually work hard for everything. This music is my childhood TBH.
💯💯💯
I met her decades ago at the height of her career and she was so sweet and humble. I still have the album she autographed for me. Great memories!❤
Saw an interview where she said she had cancer back then and traveled with a special treatment bag but never told anyone. Glad that she was ok and still performs today.
I love her music growing up in the 80s and 90s.
Yes she had it on lock in the 80s and 90s 🙌🏾
All Cried Out is one of my most favorite songs of all time! Ever since it came out! Im 53 now and still love it!
And don’t forget their music was played in PR 🇵🇷 too , whoever had a boombox walking down the street had it cranked up ⬆️
💯💯🙌🏾
❤❤❤😂
People forget, that besides the great Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam another great Latin star existed in 1986, & that was Sa-Fire. Her album was a great Freestyle one, & she had a really distinctive voice. Thanks for putting this together.
Thank you for watching have a great night 🙌🏾🙏🏽
I loveeeed Sa-Fire. She did have a distinctive voice.
@@URBANTVOndemandI loved Sa Fire!
Sa Fire ,Lisa Lisa and Cynthia...Seen all three back in the 80s and 2024
Sa-Fire, Lisette Melendez, TKA were some of my favorites.
I danced to all their songs when I was growing up. At the clubs. All my albums were taken but still have the long version LP of Lisa Lisa and the cult jam, " I wonder if I take you home. "
Oh wow!
In 1991 I met Lisa Velez at the Miami airport. She was so cool and friendly and was actually nothing like the diva she could have been. I will cherish that memory. Coincedentally I also met Edward James Olmos that same day
Lisa Lisa my first Celebrity crush..... And Full Force my first inspiration to become a producer.... Salute👊🏼
🔥🔥🔥
Glad that Lisa is healthy and has a family.
She will always be one of my favorites.
Still have her jams as my workout music.
Thx for sharing.

Better Days in life. I sang and Smiled remembering the good days🥰
My parents had me in their late teens, early 20s in 1982. They took me to Great America to see Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam when I was5 years old. It was so cool being up close to the stage, singing away to all their songs. Very cool memory I have 🤩
Lisa Lisa is still a stunning and strong woman ❤❤
🙏🏽🙏🏽
"Lost in Emotion" is still a favourite song of mine!
💯💯
So true, that baseline one of the best drops ever!

I bought this album, I lived in Vancouver, BC Canada. Loved it. It was the jam..
I'm 57, grew up in queens, left NYC 30+ YEARS AGO and LL is a staple in my playlist. ❤❤❤. That being said i was always confused about Full Force and why they were there just likd that.
I LOVED Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam during the 80s. Thank you for a GREAT wrap up to their story. I wish them all well.

Let the beat hit them. Still my favourite. Always Sounds like new and amazing.

I was alway’s a metal head but I loved & still do Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, I still have their cassette tape !
Nice!!!
Happy ending for Lisa 🎉. We love you Lisa keep looking ahead 👏
My uncle loved her! He passed away in 2021! He was my best-friend,and since it’s not the same without him! 😢❤
Still listen to “I wonder if i can take you home.” At the gym, almost every time. She was so famous in the 80’s in brazil too.
Oh wow!
Lisa Lisa used to be on the radio and she ruled the airwaves, until the early 1990s. Around 1990 , everyone was talking about this new female singer with an amazing voice. Mariah Carey took over the reins of popular music and has been on the record charts since the 1990s. I didn't know Lisa Lisa had cancer, and I'm glad she went into remission. I would love to see these two talented ladies perform in concert together. They have talent and both can sing without autotune. We love you Lisa Lisa, and I love you from head to toe and I wonder if I can take you home. I'm lost in emotion and all cried out over you.
💯💯💯
From the prospective of a young music fan who had the ✨Great!✨ experience of the 80’s, it looked like Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and the group Full Force was one big happy family of extremely talented people. Their work looked and sounded like… the “Future” at its best.
💯💯
Lisa lisa and the cult Jam are legendary from their vocals and their music. Thank you to the amazing writers and producers Full Force🌟💕🌟

I still bump Lisa Lisa everyday in my truck !! Seen her a few times as well !!
💯💯💯
Same! 😅
I remember hearing Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam’s first song I Wonder If I Take You Home on Elliot Place in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx in the spring of 1985 when I was four years old 😊. They are indeed Latin Freestyle’s first supergroup!!!
I saw them in Kansas City in 86. And I can testify to what the video is saying about when they toured. I was with 2 women who had hooked with 2 band members (not Cult jam) so we went back to their hotel room to chill with the band. Never saw Lisa, Mike or Alex but I asked the bass player if he could get their autograph on a hotel stationary. The bass player was only 19. So these guys in the band were young. They could go out but Lisa, Mike and Alex were on lockdown.
Good stuff & Thanks for watching 💯
All Cried Out was 🔥🔥🔥 back in the day.
I was such a huge fan, I still have all her music on my playlist ❤
🙌🏾🙌🏾
Oh SNAP!! You guys are the Best! Thank you for this❤

As a nine year old, Lisa Lisa was my first celeb crush. I remember seeing the video for "I Wonder If I Take You Home" and she had the pink outfit with her hair styled over her eye. She was the prettiest woman I had ever seen and was so cool. I've been a fan of her and her music ever since.
Incredible tribute to a true legend. Has anyone here ever heard her song “Let the Beat Hit ‘Em”? Incredible song. We still jam out to her in South Florida to this day. Much respect in 2025!!

First, so happy she beat her cancer 🥰🙏🌈, second, from madonna to something called taylor swift, none could touch Lisa Lisa and her recording, she might have done just a few album's, but man were they memorable, many blessings 🙏🥰🌈

Thank you! Thank you for emphasizing Progressive Funk as Latin Freestyle.
However, the beat makers/ producers were Full Force. I'm not sure if they were inspired by Chris Barbosa's High NRG/ progressive style of composing- but it is Freestyle!
They came out when I was born but I remember listening to all their songs when I use to go skating. Love the beats to the songs.
