Good luck finding the right length of cup DIYres. I was able to pop the bad one out but all the parts stores around me don’t have the tools to rent out that can assist putting one back in
IT'S GONNA TAKE A WHILE. Don't let the length of this video fool you. Just replaced the upper and lower ball joints on a 2004 MM and it took me two days with the help of an older "Ford" loving family member. I'm not a mechanic but I can follow instructions very well. And even with all the shop tools at hand, had to use a blow torch to get all the old ball joints out. Then the post on one of the lower b.j. seemed to have gotten seized inside knuckle. Once we separated the ball joint from from the lower control arm, the ball joint post had to be overly heated and then pounded out with a sledge hammer from the knuckle. The ball joint compression device that I had available to me didn't have long enough cups so I had to cut a piece of pipe for it to fit over the length. 25 years of doing IT work does not help any with the physical requirements for this type of job.
my upper ball joint just fell into the hole what happen? I know I got the right one, there was another ball joint and it said over size what is that all about?
Maybe it was previously replaced by a splined BJ that 'bored' it out a little, or your replacement part wasn't well engineered. I've heard of this happening to others; sometimes one side ok and the other not. Some replacements also have a retaining circlip, but still need to be a snug fit.
General wear and tear over time will do it. Also running over something like a log or something large in the road, or hitting a curb too hard can sometimes do it. If a newly installed one pops out, it may not have been pressed in properly on install, or the upper control arm hole may be bent or worn out and needs to be replaced.
I don’t understand what was the point of taking off the axle not the 30 mm axle nut you never took off the hub and really there’s no need to takeoff the hop so I don’t understand what the pointless

Why take out the ball joint when at the end of the video there is a whole new control arm?
Why did you cut the stud off? Instead of pressing the whole thing out? Just curious… I’ve just never seen it done this way
Was the caliper removal & hub loosen-up actually necessary?
Question, i tryed replacing upper ball joint, would not move. Local mechanic said ball joints are welded to factory upper control arms. 2004. F 150
What brake rotors are those and where can i buy them

Some aftermarket control arms had different sized bores than factory,so it may have been replaced at one time.
What causes upperball joint to popped out of the control arm?

Cool video but it all looks so clean, lol.
