idk if anyone mentioned this, but the catwalk might work if you place a ceiling first, then replace it with the catwalk. great vid man, keep it up!
To perfectly align yourself while building, place a ladder down in the direction you want to look. It will snap you to the angle it faces.

I couldn't get it to work right. I assume building it with metal is the same as stone, yes? I tried a few times but I couldn't access the top bins. I gave up and went farming for more metal lol. I'll keep trying. Could you try it with metal and let me know? Thanks, Fresonis! You da man!

You have to be sure the boxes are sticking a bit out of the ceiling/foundation, otherwise the ceiling where the top boxes are standing on, will block the access

I think it will work with vaults also, but they are higher to reach
I would be very interested in some tree platform base designs, or if you have any cool designs for bases that don't require flat land to build on. :)
I will have to see what I can do for that, people have asked me in the past also about it

Maybe if you have no foundations where the boxes go you could reach all 3 boxes by having a row of foundations in the middle? Or some sort of similar design.
I do the same thing but ontop of catwalks instead of ceilings so you can still get right to the edge of your building and still reach the upper boxes. I typically use the space below for crafting stations though

Thanks for that tip. I was wondering how one could use this double-stacking along with crafting station positioning. It's too bad that the ceiling sticks out so much on the back side of each row. I had thought maybe I'd just make the room larger and put the crafting stations on the back side. (Of course, I'd have to use more pillars in order to keep the second level of storage boxes up.) Another thing I'm going over in my mind is maybe there's a way to raise both the left and right rows (or lower the center aisle)... and then put the crafting stations on a floor ABOVE that central aisle.
And then I'm also running through my mind...the video shows a building designed for a human to walk the materials in. It'd be nice to see some designs where you can bring something like ankylo-sized or a beaver... at the bottom....and perhaps an upper level where you can bring in smaller flyers and unload.
So many possibilities! I'm glad we have "local mode" to play around. But when I have time to play, I'm anxious to play in the game, not in "local mode".
David Raasch Both the ceilings and catwalks can run unsupported after theyve connected to walls overtop of foundations or lower level ceilings (much like some bridge-building hacks). Maybe I should make a video or something. Also you can build a minumum 3-wall-high complete structure shell then drop wall or door frame sections from the ceiling in any span you intend to cover then hang the catwalks from that so you don't block any floor space either for small/medium dinos or your tribemates from walking through freely or also for placing crafting stations and such underneath their corresponding storage box/bookshelf for each type of station.
To be perpendicular to the wall you can just keep running into it until you don't slide left or right.

Does this technique work anymore? I am trying to do this but the second ceiling is still slightly shorter than the box.
that would be really cool if you made a series on primitive plus I know some things are broken but it's a really cool mod
I've seen some stuff for the next patch that will fix a lot for P+, so I wait until that comes out before I gonna start with P+
Maybe you can reach third row by placing small boxes or smithies on the floor?
If the Piller want snap use the technic to rise Fondation.
So, it looks like if I want two stacked layers, my building needs to be a minimum of 3 wall units high, correct?
Also, I just wanted to mention: It was recently pointed out to me that using mortar-and-pestles for storage is probably the most space-saving, low-cost method of storage. Of course, you can't pin-code them or label them. But it's a pretty good tip, anyways.

Hey man, awesome video thanks. I just want to know, how do you do the 3rd row of boxes? I can't seem to get the ceiling to snap to the right height for the third row. My plan is to make a massive stack right next to and in line with an elevator platform which I can use to access the top boxes.
Euhm I can't remember how I did that years ago. Sorry. I like your idea though!
I checked the video and what I think I did was to place it like the first part, after you have a ceiling on first wall high, then pillar and then another ceiling for the second row of large boxes.... you theb snap another pillar onto that first pillar and maybe you need another one or maybe first you place a ceiling, connect pillar to that ceiling so this pillar is a bit higher than the ceiling an connect a ceiling again. If this is not high enough, continue doing this until you get to the height you need for the 3rd row of boxes

I haven't tested it, because if I stacked it higher, I couldn't reach if from the ground floor.
I cant get this to work the ceiling keeps being obstructed so I turn off collisions but I cant seem to get the pillar to snap with part of it showing through the top of the ceiling. Any help would be great :)
try using the cycle snappoint button and see if you can get that snappoint you need

Heh...it's too bad we can't figure out some glitch that would allow you to pull a dino up along the outside of the building, unload into stacked storage boxes, and then have them be accessible on the inside too, right next to crafting stations.
(I have an interest lately in efficient base designs...in terms of common workflows. In kitchens, in real life, they talk about the "work triangle"... the distance between the fridge, the sink, and the stove. Seems like we can apply similar concepts to Ark.)
I suppose I could use windows to unload through, but in my experience, you can't seem to reach much through a window.
yea always good to have a nice workflow, windows are a option, but you only can access what is in front of the window

sure, maybe the height works different, so you need to see what works for that, but it should work

Ok I know I'm late to the party but it seem you can make a floor after the second level of storage boxes, then stack another two storage boxes rinse and reapeat!

yes , but , like in a typical server , no in one player , only , the comands of the keyboard , sorry if you didnt understand ;P
but the commands of the keyboard you can find in the options menu ;)
Google can sometimes also help if it's not in the options menu

You mean ceiling as ground floor instead of foundation? I assume it should just work the same
Fresonis yea , either the pillar just wouldn't get In the spot or Adobe one is a bit shorter. ended up using stone and it worked
weird that adobe didn't work, maybe indeed a bit shorter than stone
yea, I built on pillars and using Adobe ceilings for the floor. and with Adobe pillars I never could get the ceilings high enough to place the second set of boxes.. ended up using stone pillars with stone ceilings on them and it worked.
Rats, I am trying to do this with double-wall thickness. But the ceiling won't snap into the large storage boxes. I know I have them placed correctly, as I have done this before successfully.
Hmmm... it seems that being in a corner is the problem. I can move one square to the right and it works.

Sein Akzent ist sehr stark und sein Englisch ist auch ziemlich einfach. Mit Englisch kann man halt viel mehr Leute erreichen, also wird er wohl nur Englisch reden. Aber mir gefällts sein Humor ist super und sein Englisch dadurch das er kein Muttersprachler ist auch schön verständlich. ;)
Ich finde auch dass er sehr unterhaltend ist und solange man ihn versteht passt alles ! Mir persönlich ist der Akzent nur selten aufgefallen .
