You should update this video to incorporate all the changes and homestead structures. We've done some raft build that has rafts locked into 1 empty space and storage on the raft just below the main floor of our workspace. This allows you to move your storage near your fab, smithy etc, so you can worry less about weight limits and going back and forth. Builds such as this would be interesting to see you go over.
I'm only a week or two in playing "Ark" and seeing this blew my mind. The potential in this game is just so endless. It's like a much more interesting and adult version of "Minecraft" but with Dinosaurs. Definitely one of the best games I've played to this day.

Since Cyro pods have been introduced; there's no reason for huge bases anymore. Rafts are the way to go these days and small unique areas under trees that are out of view of flyers and so dense that you cannot access by large dinos.
This is without question the *best* tutorial I've seen on youtube yet and I am 46 years old. No loud music, very easy to follow instructions, well-spoken. Very pro. I hope I see more of this in your library, xONEWINGx! Very cool!! And TYVM!!! I was soooo lost.

4 and a half years later and so much of this is still relevant. i play on a heavily populated rag server and spent much of my time here using boats as dry land is prime real estate. i even have a tek rep boat, inspired by the work here.

You're pretty clever, you make boat building in ARK look as inventive as engineers in WWI. You've got a boat for everything, and they are pretty cool looking too. Any tribe would be proud to have you design their raids.
I'm sure it's been stated in previous comments but I would most definitely prefer a shark cage tutorial. I've grown very interested in these boat tutorials and enjoy making these boats very much. I'd make the shark cage myself but I like watching your tutorials to make sure I know my limitations with the block limit and especially because of the special attention you provide to certain areas of the boat that I may not think of by myself.
Thank you for making this effort, this was a great watch. I just survived a sarco attack on my first raft ever (it got all of my storage during my escape). I had seen other rafts which were all built up, but had no idea how to do it. Now I have the knowledge to make a well-defended raft :)
The trapper raft is amazing! Made taming strong carnivors/herbivors easy. Just have to go to carnivor/herbivor island with a raft and an argent and aggro & lure one dino in each cage (or several scorps/ankylos in a single cage for instance). Since I need about 10 minutes to go back to my base with the raft I usually narco them before travelling back in order to make them hungry before I start the tame. Being a solo player on PvE, this build is a huge time-saver. Thanks a lot!
I was searching around ark maps and found some amazing boats. So I tried to copy, but was lost on how to sink the foundation. This video was a ton of help. I was playing around with the build and built a wood pirate boat just to see what I could do. The length and height is limited. But looks good considering. Good job and thanks for the tips.

This was very very helpful. I'm a relatively new Ark player. I really struggled on my first character, building your expedition raft first has been a huge win on my second character. Could you post a tutorial on your trapper raft? I'm trying to build it on what I see in this video but am having problems finding the snap point for the dinosaur gate. Did you have to build the outer walls first then manually place the dinosaur gate? Did you use slopped roofs or ramps for the dino ramps?
Yeh I keep meaning to get to that tutorial but it can be done any number of ways, I used sloped ceilings in this video for the ramp. You should be able to just slap the gates down no trick involved.
xONEWINGx Thanks, you have been a great help. That's the direction I'm building but as a new character playing local I'm gathering resources for every piece I place. The dino gate just doesn't seem to snap. I'm going to try to build the rest of the pen and see if it just lets me manually place it.

So I've been playing this game since early stages when it was practically unplayable and the beach was loaded with friendly players and thatch huts. It's come a long way since then, and so have I with my abilities in the game to mass produce monster size bases to deal with higher level raiders. And despite all that I know I still learned from this video. Kudos! Great video!

I've made wood and stone based expedition boats, that have a crows nest, so I can tame from up there. You just have to repair your walls after taming. I've built something modeled after an aircraft carrier, 2x6 long for the landing area on a 3 block wide boat. The side lane is for having a raised platform and a door in and out of the flight deck. I love the trapper with double pens, that's a Genius design. Very well done sir.

The enthusiasm I got from your vids was soon shared by my old colleagues who restartet with me now aswell. So we are 3 people at the moment, living in the open sea as pirates... actually as non-violent pirates :) MY QUESTION: You seem to have loads of experience on living in the water. Have you built a "Water World" once yourself? If yes, what should I consider? How could I defend against Battle-Quetzals. So far, it was very peaceful at my spot, but I think this can change very soon. As defense - appart from Plant-X and upcomming turrets - I want to tame as many water-creatures swimming below our city as possible. Also - inspired by your vids - I was thinking of getting some dimorphodons set to neutral (I hope that they would fly up to a quetzal/air unit when our rafts are under Fire). --> You or any of the readers/viewers have any suggestions for me appart from giving up that stupid idea???? I was having trouble with the sloped roof as well, I was able to determine which way it would face depending on the way I faced the wall I was putting it on. So the sloped roof will always face away from the interior of the wall, so you wave to make sure the inner wall (the side of the stone wall with the slab of wood) is facing the direction you want your roof to come down.
You are a raft genius. I've never played on a pvp lobby before, but I guess being on one for a long time would induce ideas that would seem idiotic but prove useful.

Definitely works on XBOX. I do it on every server. Sometimes I have trouble with certain building types but I use thatch and replace it. it works everytime
luke ross I mean effectively. Does inventory space play a roll? And could I essentially have a floating base? ( I heard your body remains in game unprotected when logged out)
Just go crazy crafting Narcotics once you unlock it, gives ton of XP. the plant eaters parasaurs are easy to tame with berries, their attacks on bushes give you a TON of berries. Itll click as you play dont worry if you dont understand right now.

Your technique for lowering Foundations is not the best, I lower my foundations to the same effect much more simply: a) Place a central pillar b) Snap a foundation off to the side of the pillar c) delete pillar from a) d) snap new pillar inside of foundation from b) e) delete foundation b) - now repeat from step B) and you will only use 1 pillar and 1 foundation for each lowering step. Other than that, please stop telling everyone about the Bangalore boat ;-) - that shits OP
I tried alternate method and worked great. The problem I have is it won't let me set that last foundation below raft deck so I can't access control. Anyone have advice on how to get the foundation down one more level. It tells me it is obstructed.
My apologies, I should have been more specific. Centering the raft build. There is no snap points on the PS4 version. Both myself and a friend have tried this method for over 30 minutes without any success.

I know this video is old but thanks to you I made an awesome raft build. I just started playing a month ago and I hated the raft cause you were vulnerable. I could've made a box but like that's ugly. This vid is brilliant, I can't think of any question unanswered when it comes to raft building. Admittedly these are predominantly pvp style boats but I've taken bits from this vid another of his and put the together to build a taming, carrier and mini base all in one. Thanks mate!
Thanks to your videos I have a nice save start on any server. people usually will leave these boats alone because they don't block resource spawns and are mostly used until you decide to build a metal base. But if you have plant x on them 9 times out of 10 you'll get sunk by an alpha tribeI have used many of your builds and tweeked them to my needs.
I don't know if is a new way of leveling a foundation to the raft but there is a easy way. Youll need a fence foundation and a wooden pillar. Put the fence foundation in the center front, a pillar in front of it and a floor on the left or on the right and you good to go.
Awesome video thanks! My first boat was just a snow biome hideaway with two fireplaces to keep warm while taming or oil harvesting. Wish i thought of making the raft with a spot to tame on i was running back and forward to heat and feeding narcotics. Good old days!

Dave Davidson Dino gates don't "snap" unless its on a fence foundation, you just manually eye ball and place them like storage boxes etc.

Do you know if the embedded foundation thing was fixed (broken) in a recent patch? I can't get the middle foundation to snap to the pillar.

Kevin Smith Theres a difference between sloped roofs and ramps. Sloped Roofs require angled walls, ramps do not.

So the sloped roof will always face away from the interior of the wall, so you wave to make sure the inner wall (the side of the stone wall with the slab of wood) is facing the direction you want your roof to come down.

Just go crazy crafting Narcotics once you unlock it, gives ton of XP. the plant eaters parasaurs are easy to tame with berries, their attacks on bushes give you a TON of berries. Itll click as you play dont worry if you dont understand right now.

Your technique for lowering Foundations is not the best, I lower my foundations to the same effect much more simply:
a) Place a central pillar
b) Snap a foundation off to the side of the pillar
c) delete pillar from a)
d) snap new pillar inside of foundation from b)
e) delete foundation b) - now repeat from step B)
and you will only use 1 pillar and 1 foundation for each lowering step.
Other than that, please stop telling everyone about the Bangalore boat ;-) - that shits OP

I tried alternate method and worked great. The problem I have is it won't let me set that last foundation below raft deck so I can't access control. Anyone have advice on how to get the foundation down one more level. It tells me it is obstructed.

This was early on, it has been changed the visibility is much better now then when this video was made.
PS4: I've been trying this for the past 30+ minutes, it will not snap into place anywhere. I've tried all angles and standing positions.

Centering the raft build. There is no snap points on the PS4 version.
Both myself and a friend have tried this method for over 30 minutes without any success.
There was a patch that effected that, can't you grab the rudder then pull the pillar back over the mast? watch my latest vid if you want an example.

OK I've finally found out what the issue is. When holding the "pillar" make sure to bring up the circular menu and choose "drive"

I know this video is old but thanks to you I made an awesome raft build. I just started playing a month ago and I hated the raft cause you were vulnerable. I could've made a box but like that's ugly. Now I can go through swamps and everywhere else without having to worry about dinos killing me and ruining everything. In style Lmfao. Thanks alot.
This vid is brilliant, I can't think of any question unanswered when it comes to raft building. Admittedly these are predominantly pvp style boats but I've taken bits from this vid another of his and put the together to build a taming, carrier and mini base all in one. Thanks mate!

Thanks to your videos I have a nice save start on any server. people usually will leave these boats alone because they don't block resource spawns and are mostly used until you decide to build a metal base. But if you have plant x on them 9 times out of 10 you'll get sunk by an alpha tribeI have used many of your builds and tweeked them to my needs.

I don't know if is a new way of leveling a foundation to the raft but there is a easy way.
Youll need a fence foundation and a wooden pillar.
Put the fence foundation in the center front, a pillar in front of it and a floor on the left or on the right and you good to go.

problem with that is that it makes the foundation truly flush with the surface and you wont be able to demo it later if you need to.

My first boat was just a snow biome hideaway with two fireplaces to keep warm while taming or oil harvesting.
Wish i thought of making the raft with a spot to tame on i was running back and forward to heat and feeding narcotics.

This is so cool I made a little expedition boat with a cabin a few hours ago. Nothing like any of these boats but now I can't wait to build them all. My tribes been dying to cage is a shark and a few bigger Dino's.
