    ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

    Have a great day!!

Geoff Tate was and is a beast on vocals, back in his prime he was at the top with the greatest, it’s crazy to think about when his speaking voice is actually quite deep, that he could reach those insane high notes...
His tone has changed over the years, he sings in a deeper key now, but he’s still an amazing vocalist and an amazing lyricist and storyteller...
But that being said, I’ve heard some new concert videos with him from 2018 and 2019, it’s like his voice has gotten so much better again and he can hit some really awesome high notes again without it’s even looking hard for him to do...

I am happy to report that his voice is still amazing. He cannot quite hit some of the super-high stuff from days of yore, but I about lost it when he did "Eyes of a Stranger." I was in college in the early 80's, and I was listening to WSOU-FM, Seton Hall University's station, that played a lot of hard rock and metal. They played the song 'Queen Of The Reich', and I dropped everything I was doing. I sat there stunned at what I heard, and found a local record store that had their EP album. Geoff Tate, in my opinion, is the best metal lead vocalist of all time and this is the song he does that I use as the reason why. Geoff was the original lead vocalist of Queensryche, one of the original founders of the Progressive or Prog Metal genre. He is 62 years old, but still singing with his own band, doing much of his old Queensryche stuff. His best stuff includes the songs Queen of the Reich, The Lady Wore Black, Walk in the Shadows, Eyes of a Stranger, I Don’t Believe in Love, Another Rainy Night and You. In case you can’t tell, his band, Queensryche, are one of my favorite bands and he is my favorite singer, but, let me tell you once again, that this song is the best example of what he can do. This is the music they were raised on, and as babies used to fall asleep on a blanket on the floor as my band practiced in the basement. I am so very happy that young vocalists such as yourself are giving people like Tate, Dio, Dickinson and Halford the kudos they deserve even if it is on a monetary TH-cam channel. I was shocked when I heard Queensryche for the first time when my best friend and I were going to see Metallica in 1988, and Queensryche was opening. Operation Mindcrime had JUST come out and had not hit yet, and Queensryche hits the stage and I was seriously blown away by them. They did a fantastic show and with their musicianship set the crowd up for the power and brutality that was Metallica. I was an instant fan.
Unfortunately for Geoff, he set the bar so high with his vocals through the years that he could only deliver half to three-quarters of the was from 1991 forward, and the band paid for it. Several mediocre albums after Empire, them waiting too damn long to record Operation Mindcrime II when Geoff could not deliver the goods on that level anymore, and then the rather nasty public squabble over naming rights all tarnished the band's legacy.
It's a shame because Queensryche could have been one of the all-time great bands had things gone differently for them.

And Idk, despite the band tarnishing their legacy, Operation:Mindcrime is still as -if not more- relevant as back then!

Having crewed for Geoff twice in London over the last 7 years, the first time he sounded terrible, the second time was a far more stripped down gig, he carried his own bags down the stairs in to the venue, and his singing voice was much more like the 80s that second time around, and he seemed like a totally different person, no attitude or anything, was quite refreshing..

In his 80’s prime, Tate pulled off performances like this one and better with apparent effortlessness. He was a virtuoso. The band still exists in various versions but hasn’t done anything close in quality to their 80’s work in decades. I think Tate performs still and it seems that he’s taken care of his health, but nobody can do a note-perfect “take hold of the flame” at 60. Nobody. It’s Physically impossible. But back in the day... I remember seeing grown men moved to tears by his performances. Queensryche isn’t as important as other active metal bands from their era like Priest or Maiden, but they had a very good run, wrote some epic songs and featured an all-time great, freakishly talented, unique vocalist.

Sadly the band came to an ugly ending some time in the late 90s/early 2000s, and I’m not sure how much singing he still does...he makes wine from his own vineyard now. They did do a concept album called Operation Mindcrime, which tells a single story in 15ish songs. Geoff does still sing. He split from the band, though, in an unpleasant way, lawyers 'n all, trying to get the rights to the band's name. He lost that legal battle, so he now has his own band (though he did retain the rights to Operation: Mindcrime since it is his brainchild). He was supposedly aggressive to his band mates during the end of his tenure with Queensrÿche as well. Lots of drama, sadly.
Unfortunately his voice has suffered over the years. He no longer has the incredible range he had in this video (circa 1984 this is). The fact that he's a smoker undoubtedly played a part in this. But back then he was in his prime, in the 80's and first half of the 90's. Granted, after 1995 the band started making simpler music that doesn't invite such dramatic vocals, supposedly also by his influence (something that is sort of confirmed after he left the band and they started going back more to their old sound and hired a singer, Todd LaTorre, who does still have this incredible range and can sing these old songs as well as Geoff did).
I was kind of hoping you would one day react to this song, so thank you for this! I enjoyed your response. Queensrÿche, up until 1995's Promised Land album, is something I can never get enough of.

Victim of Changes... they could come out and perform that one song and leave and it's money well spent.

Geoff Tate has a natural 5 octave voice, and blows away most every other singer in rock/metal. The album, Operation Mindcrime, is a true testament of his power and range, and the creativity of the band

I get sick of Judas Priest fans trying to pretend Halford has more range than Geoff Tate in his prime. He didn't

There was one of the greatest collaborations ever. And as always, the created their best music together and it never worked so well without the other. Like Lennon & McCartney (The Beatles), Stanley & Simmons (Kiss) or Tankian & Malakian (System of a Down). Queensrÿche with Chris DeGarmo created milestones and one of best albums of all time - Operation: Mindcrime. For me this is one of my greatest love, standing next to Pink Floyd - The Wall, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Death - Human, Psychotic Waltz - A social disgrace, Blind Illusion - The sane Asylum, Dream Theater - When dream and Day unite, Colosseum - Live and Type O Negative - Slow deed and hard. All this Albums are timeless and most of them since the day of their release. Back to Queensrÿche: After Chris left, the Band lost their Magic and all the Albums couldn't kept up the quality... And then everything felt apart.

Obi Wan Agreed. I had hopes that more great stuff would come out of Queensrÿche like Operation Mindcrime or even like their first album The Warning because Michael Wilton was still there, but it was not meant to be. It was obvious that Chris Degarmo working with Geoff Tate was the magic ingredients.

In the early days, Geoff would come out from stage right, and walk across to center stage, holding that opening note of "Queen of the Reich". However in this performance, they end their set with it. Incredible.

Yes, I remember doing that exact thing when I saw them open for KISS in 1984 at the L.A. Forum. I think I saw a couple of the L.A.Lakers since that was their old home.

Definitely don't do something from the last 30 years, though. Do something from the 70's or early/mid 80's. His voice just wasn't the same after like '86.

Saw Tate play 3 or 4 years ago and his voice was just as strong as ever! I was shocked, because I wasn't expecting him to still be able to hit certain notes. But he nailed EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!
