Love seeing these types of videos. I have no intention of getting licensed, and with the consumer market ever-evolving and prices only getting higher, it's great to see someone showing informative things to truly help out the backyard pyro-enthusiast. Hats off to you my man!!
I kinda thought this was the story. Last two years I’ve been using 4” or 5” shells. I haven’t seen much of a difference in pricing. My thought was if they can only have 50 grams of powder, the smaller shells would make a better report that the longer ones. I’m really happy with the Excalibur cans. Great color and loud reports. Thanks for this share. Happy fireworking everyone!
You know how italian style shells have the timing fuse for the burst to the top of the shell and quick match to the lift. A manufacturer could probably do the same with those 7 inch shells put a 1.5-inch shell upside down in the 1.75-inch shell to make a double break. The first shells timing fuse is on top, and the 2nd is on the bottom. This would be better than trying to have the burst ignite the 2nd shell, which would lead to fewer failures in double breaks.
Agreed. I think it's dumb when companies try to popularize "bigger" shells because all it's doing is costing the consumer and the fireworks store more money for extra cardboard. Ngl RedApple is one of the companies trying to promote bigger and bigger shells every year. They're already talking about making a 7" consumer shell which is just nonsensical.
Hello! I’m so glad I found this video! I have a question to ask. With the 60 gram limit, is there a certain ratio of powder between the lanch and report? Or, is it made a certain way not described? If so, I would think brands would skew the ratio, with one brand possibly using a 30-30% ratio. Is that true? Thank you for this video! Edit for spelling
I agree for the most part with the exclusion of specialty effects like rings and mines to break, 5' is now the industry standard so not to many companies are putting out good 4' kits, there are a few exceptions anarchy/cows and a few others, here's another thing to add to your point most good 4' kits come 4/1 to a case so 96 cans the majority of 5' to 7' come 3/1 to a case so only 72 cans and usually at a higher price per case. Great vid 👌
i always love when i watch these pyro videos online when they talk and/or show the 6" and now 7" shells....i always think in my head you are getting DUPED! why would you spend so much extra. 60g is 60g.....PERIOD!!!
Thanks! Do you mean a demonic Corona NOAB or the corona killer 1/1? Ive been looking for the demonic corona NOAB but everyone i've found so far is wildly overpriced. It seems they are getting harder to come by too.
They are canister shells called Corona killer. Daytime noise makers or proper way to say salutes. You need to get them back alley and yes they are alittle priced.
With marketing are the putting more of a load in the 5in and 6in these days? To designate the full load cans?. Also awesome videos. Keep them up. Looking forward to any Sumwing and Stinger brand shells in Bee Head particular.
It really depends on what effect is in the shell since some effects require more composition than others but at the end of the day it can only have 60g total to be considered legal which will fit in a 4" can no matter the effect. Most cans will come in underweight because they dont want to flirt too close to that 60g limit. Most off the shelf cans Ive pulled apart (which is A LOT) the total composition is usually under 55g so they have a margin of error to stay on the right side of the line. Ive even pulled apart 5" cans that have less than 48g total so they are really lacking on the powder and Ive pulled apart 4" cans that are pushing very close to 60g so the actual length of the canister really doesnt matter still. I will say the new "donut" or "ring" effect cans some have a spacer inside of them to arrange the stars in a particular way so they always look like a circle when they burst. Those cans need a little extra length to accommodate that spacer and powder inside.
It would have been nice if you would have cut them open so we could see how the charges are arranged in the shells. Do they shape the charges differently in the bigger shells. Also you should have weighted the powder in each shell to verify the 60 gram limits. One more point, just because the last shell only had a smaller depth, doesn’t mean the shell has a larger charge. So all in all, you really didn’t show us much of anything except you know how to pop the cap off and use a ruler….
Cool video but there is a difference. Companies put the best comp in their top of the line shells. A companies top of the line shell isn’t usually their 4 inch cans with a few exceptions. A companies best shells are going to be the 5 and 6 inch shells because they are the top of the line shell with the better comp inside.
@@kohnbonn9744 I I totally agree. Good comp will fit in a 4 inch can. I’m not saying I like 7 inch canister shells with 3 inches of empty space. What I’m saying is just the facts of the the way the industry works. Most companies don’t make their 4 inch shell their top of the line shell so it doesn’t get their top of the line comp. I don’t like it. I don’t buy 7 inch shells(unless they are OL) but it is what it is. Honesty I was hoping all the shipping issues and costs would kill 6 and 7 inch consumer cans but I guess not. People keep buying them so they keep making them. Honestly it takes more lift charge to get bigger shells up so you get less of the good stuff that way.
@@bigmacfullerton7870 they know we gotta have the works so they have no incentive to change it as long as people are buying them like you said. I hope prices go down after shipping goes down but honestly believe this is gonna be the new norm. Stay safe bro.

Great video. I agree that this bigger is better nonsense is getting out of hand. Personally, I also find the larger shells often now break bigger and lower. Nothing more infuriating than watching your breaks bounce off the ground Instead of high in the air where they belong

That’s why I prefer overloaded shells and cakes.
Been preaching this to people for years my guy. Good informative video thanks

Awesome video. I noticed on the packaging that the shells all had the same grams of powder so I wondered what the deal was. Now we know. 👍

If people didn’t buy them red apple wouldn’t make them
The only legit reason for 6" in a consumer can is for good double break effects or possibly rings for something.
Nice video but missing one important thing. Casing thickness. A thicker casing louder boom.
