420kg Giant Firework Shell Story | The YONSHAKUDAMA ★ ONLY in JAPAN

  • Japan's Fireworks Town is Katakai, Niigata Prefecture, and they host an annual festival dedicated to launching them high into the sky over scenic rice paddies. How big are they? The bigger, the better!
    That's the spirit!
    Meet the YONSHAKUDAMA
    Japan's biggest fireworks shell weighs about 420kg (925 pounds)
    It was created by Masanori Honda in 1986. The world had never seen anything like this!
    It was the largest ever artillery firework shell in 2014 when it entered the Guinness Book of World Records. Since then, more ridiculous sizes have been launched but it all started with Honda-san. He's been launching up the insane 420 kg (925 lb) "Yonshakudama" Firework Artillery Shell for decades.
    The Katakai Matsuri is held annually on September 9th and 10th for over 400 years.
    Where is Katakai?

      Honestly, when you look at the basic structure of the two, they are ultimately no different. The only difference really comes down to intent of their use. One just happens to have pretty colors. You could use either interchangeably via tubes or other methods of launching.

    Mr. Masanori Honda is an example for business executives everywhere. He's older, but he remains open-minded and willing to make necessary adjustments in the course of doing business. Those that refuse to change with the times die by the side of the road while forward-thinking execs pass them by. Bravo, Honda-san!

    He could have said, "We were going for a Mine Effect instead of launching a higher breaking shell", but this man has pride and wont take credit for a misfire. Still really cool to see. Thanks for showing the fireworks from a father distance and some closer up. Really made for better viewing the show, and the fast forward to see the Yonshakudama was fun to watch also. Glad he did it this way instead of just not filming it at all and just going to the Yonshakudama Shells and the end. Adding a filming of one going off properly really showed how much design and build time goes into these shells which is well deserved!!! Thanks for the fun video. Now if I could just learn to build them here in the U.S. I'd be the King of Pyrotechnics in the U.S.!! One can dream about doing this, especially a pyro like myself.. Here's to a perfect wind speed to clear the smoke and no Duds!! Cheers... :)

    • @jakemakes
      @jakemakes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@obamashand4911 You can get expensive and cheap hard hats. They don't have to be tough like a military helmet, the way the suspension (straps) works is to keep the actual helmet material up above your skull a few inches. If something heavy drops onto your head, it acts like a cars supsenion and bounces down, disapating the kinetic energy. As opposed to a bike helmet, with is more to just keep your skull from cracking on a hard suface but does nothing for shock absorbsion.
