Great vid. I think archaeologists went back in time and confirmed that the best played ground type of all time is blunder life orb garchomp vs ojama stour 2018. That's just what I read online though
Hippo always feels like the inverse of role compression. it’s what you use when you want zero distraction from being a bulky ground type. it’s the pure experience
The BST isn't insane, what's really setting Gen 9 apart and making it's mons crazy is the amount of minmaxing gamefreak has done with them. In an older generation Great Tusk would have traded some of its insane physical bulk and power for some extra special attack it would never use.
Excadrill did fall off through mid Gen 8, but Sand saw a resurgence in the last three to four months of the gen and the HO Lead Drill made a comeback, leading to Drill having about 5% usage in that time period. However, due to the tiers freezing 6(?) months before the end of Gen 8 it never rose back to OU.
Seeing that Ice Beam and Hydro Pump on Swampert at 15:03 really makes me wonder how different of a game ADV OU would be if it had the Physical/Special Split from Gen 4.
what's neat about gen 9 is that, after a hiatus from getting new OU viable ground types for a few generations, we got a ton dropped on us this generation and they're pretty much all good. some (sandy shocks, toedscruel) are niche but incredibly novel for ground types, and some (great tusk, clodsire) are doing what OU grounds have always done. and you still have some of the classics around (garchomp) who are better than ever! it's a renaissance generation for ground types, and as a big fan of them i'm so happy to see it.
in all fairness, any meta where lando-t exists you have to be super special to have a niche as a ground type. gliscor is an unkillable wall, garchomp has basically a perfect stat spread. donphan and excadrill get rapid spin. the quag forms aren't aware they're supposed to be bad. and then the slug beats rotom
It never ceases to amuse me how little of any of bkcs videos remains after gen 5. Halfway through the generations takes 90% of the video and its hilarious
Your insights of the different pokemon metagames, the types and the individual mons have made me get really into the game and improve in my plays and builds. I would like to thank you for the knowledge provided and for your constant support to the community
Hey BKC, on team builder, you can click the "type" column header in the Pokémon list (when choosing the pokemon species) and from there you can filter by types.
Man I remember Gastrodon in gen 7. It randomly showed up and blanked the meta game. Everyone said it was trash and its stats don’t hold up anymore, but then when people actually used it, it was a solid mon.
Water/Ground is a great defensive typing. Swampert was amazing, and both Gastrodon and Quagsire can check a large number of threats well in spite of their lackluster stats thanks to their Abilities (Storm Drain and Water Absorb/Unaware respectively)
I think the one you might have been looking for in gen 8 was Seismitoad? It was very heavily used during early gen 8 due to it's utility vs Dracovish and Cinderace but then became a niche swift swimmer after those two were banned to ubers.
Theres some stuff I want to mention. With this I mean 2 Pokemon and some demonstrations For one Diggersby was seen more on rare occasions but it still is something you have to play around carefull. Its Normal type also allowed it to switch Aegislash to pull of powerfull EQs afterwards. Another one would be Nidoking in gen 8. In the right hands this thing can cause a lot of trouble and break a lot of defensive stuff. Another groovy thing I woulddve liked to see wouldve been the ways of handeling ground types with interesting tools. Air balloon and Magnet rise alone showed how strong Stab earthquakes are hard to deal with so Pokemon like Starmie and Magnezone (as for the new Generation Goldengo) would go out of their way just to handle this to pull of spins or fighting back instead of switching out. I think all of those nuances show how good grounds are. I just wanted to mention these. Those werent big discussion points and not really part of what this series is all about, so thats why Im posting it here.
gen 3-current donphans best set imo is super underrated. CB donphan murders things in ways noone ever expects. and its still a super effective rocker or spinner even if its not
I'm actually kind of disappointed you didn't touch on zygarde in gen 7. To this day I hold the opinion that that thing is one of the most unholy things that has ever run rampant in ou. Sub coil glare thousand arrows still shows up in my nightmares
Gens 4-8 were dominated by nearly the same list of ground types, especially after gen 5. And none of them were introduced in gens 1-3 or 6-8. So gens 4-5 completely redefined ground types & they were never dethroned until Daddy Tusk showed up to take everyone's lunch money.
Could you imagine if Toedsccruel didn’t have its ability and could fire off spore from a 100 base speed? Would be extremely infuriating to say the least.
Iron treads is pretty cool. Unfortunately it’s steel typing gives it weaknesses to over 1/4 of the OU tier. Not counting common offensive coverage. This generation is incredible.
Another thing about the ddtar flygon mu in adv is if ttar is running a special move on its dd set it's usually hp grass for pert and flygon stonewalls that set even harder
This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
The fact that Iron Treads is better in ubers than in OU suggests that it has some potentially-valuable tools that it doesn't fully use yet. When Pokemon home comes out, its usage might increase
That potential tool is the electric immunity, which right now is the least useful it's ever been in any ou ever because the only volt switcher / actual electric type is rotom-wash which washes treads no conditioner.
Hey BKC i hope you are doing well. Im not sure youll see this or even respond but i gotta get thia off my chest and i need an expert pokemon players opinion. So in your offense vs defense video it got me thinking. Alot of people namely verlisify think smogon is toxic and anti offense. To the point of making balance the most viable archetype. Often this gets viewed as unfun and the games require to many bulky teams. For example gen 7 ou pex ferro fini tornaus the list goes on. The idea i think is that the council bans strong offensive mons like pheramosa and mega salamence yet keeps unbreakable walls like pex and blissey and lando even tho they warp the meta just as much as their offensive counterparts and require alot of prep to break them where otherwise without so many bans to powerful breakers and sweepers the strong walls would be more managable. What are your thoughts? I myself am a little torn. While i understand the strain super op and offensive pokemon put on teambuilding i also see the same trend for defense and i feel as tho im watching it in real time with how gen 9 is shaping out. Chi yu annilape light clay ban the list goes on. Anyone else please feel free to comment but yea sorry for long post. Love you and your conent and hope you are well. 😄
Hey BKC could you talk about how gsc to adv changing how Evs work affected individual Pokémon matchups and the game at large I just thought about how weird it is that in gsc and rby you always know the damage range of attacks. To me that seems nearly as big as pre and post team preview
We need a fast rock/ground type instead of a bulky one, and give it a rock type equivalent of Earthquake. Ban it to Ubers or even AG, I don't care, I just want EdgeQuake coverage with stab on both that doesn't require me to take a minimum of 70% before I move
