You know, I'm a big fan of Gholdengo in gen 9, but I struggle to wrap my head around the fact that its typing is the same as Aegislash. Like, Aegislash tends to look like it's levitating even though it's not (and then Gholdengo actually levitates a lot with balloon). It's one of those pairs of Pokemon with the same typing that don't *feel* like they have the same typing. Kartana and Ferrothorn are another pair like that where it's more obvious why they feel so different. Anyway, I've been wondering what it would be like if Aegislash was in gen 4? Would it get a day of fame in OU before it gets banned? And when that's done, how will DPP Ubers be shaken up by such a formidable dragon resist that can also spinblock and use shadow sneak? Would it be a good lead? I've been discussing this with Ryan Gosling on messenger recently, so don't be surprised if he also asks you about it. We're pretty intrigued.
It's so nice to see more GSC OU videos, I actually got into the metagame recently thanks to your channel and it's now my favorite by far. I'm absolute ass at it but I'm sure I'll be decent in 12-13 years down the line
One of the most interesting things to me about GSC specifically is how many moveset restrictions there are due to trades, events, etc. There's a smogon post from '21 with all of them and it's mind boggling the extent of it, of course most don't matter (as the majority of moves have no competitive merit) but there sure are a lot that affect the meta like here where Golem has to choose between utility and non HP stab.
I found tentacruel to be one of the most restricted. It has a ton of cool options like reflect, mirror coat, spin, sub, and swords dance, but all those moves are incompatible with each other to some degree. Heal bell restricting counter and twave on blissey also sucks
I was frustrated with my past self who had, earlier today, chosen to watch the Gen 3 Choice Scarf video, thereby precluding its consumption as bedtime audio content. But lo! I am saved! BKC has released another discussion, a mere 6 hours later.
GSC's duality is crazy. On one hand the format is precious to Golem, but on the flipside of that coin Smeargle is quite unloved. He must think the meta is quite the sneaky little Hoppip.

Thank you BKC. I've been playing GSCOU seriously lately, and this video gave me a proper understanding of Golem. Against Cloyster, the key seems to be to set a timer with Toxic (Snorlax's Thunder is also good if you have one) and take advantage of not using Explosion when resetting Spikes. If Cloyster goes faint before Golem goes faint, an opponent will be unable to reset Spikes permanently, giving you a big advantage. Also, just because you're using Golem doesn't necessarily mean you have to use Spin. It is also important to remove Zapdos with Explosion. The threat to offensive teams is Spikes + Zapdos, so being able to remove one of them is important. From here on is my opinion, Golem is highly appreciated in modern GSC because it has become to be focused on battles between offensive teams. I think a lot of Golem's benefits mentioned in this video are its ability to defend against offensive teams. Against stall teams, I feel Steelix's defensive stats and typing are important, especially Toxic immute. (It's also mentioned in this video that Golem can also break walls with Fire Blast, but Golem's Fire Blast is a little lacking for 2HKO against Skarmory. If you give it Charcoal, there is a good chance of 2HKO against Skarmory, but this further weakens the defense performance, so prediction and luck will become a large factor in the success of breaking walls.) Anyway, this video gave me as a recent player a big insight.
sad to see this misconception is still widely believed. I play gsc uu in teamtours, and I think I speak for the vast majority of the playerbase when I say that curse chansey is not a common or effective set. it fails to break any of the normal resists, which are on almost every team to combat granbull, and is helpless vs opposing curse users. on stall, you already are going to have a problem with letting in qwilfish for free, and curse chansey not only does that, but also gives qwil free reign to click curse itself. using curse also means missing out on all the other good moves chansey could be using (present, thunder, heal bell, thunder wave, counter, etc). there's always give and take with chansey's move choice, but curse is going to give you the least utility of all the other options listed. stall teams typically will use curse hypno, which is similarly flawed in my opinion, granbull, or belly drum quagsire as their primary wincon. this is why I want to see BKC make a video on gsc lower tiers; there's a lot of misconceptions about these tiers (nidoqueen being #1, slowking being common, feraligatr being bad, etc), and I hope with his reach he may be able to better inform people on the machinations of these honestly really great tiers@@linkloyan4624

@arkelon Roar not only has negative priority but straight up fails if it doesn't go last. So the faster mon will still go first, but their Roar will fail and do nothing, and then the slower one actually gets their Roar off.
Don't get me wrong, the physical special split was mostly a good thing, but the rock ground types got absolutely wrecked by it. I feel like they were so much more viable before the physical special split just in general
it was already not great for rock ground types before the physical special split. Pretty much all fire types ran a complementary hidden power type for good coverage with fire, and since rock grounds are so slow, even if they predicted right on the switch they’d just get outsped and die anyways.
For real, BKC could do a video theorizing on how the cross Gen johto evos (Mismagius, Honchkrow, Farigiraf, Ursaluna, etc) would impact GSC had they existed right from the start

Usually it's a case of someone winning without revealing their lax - a relatively common example would be SD+agility baton passed to marowak and the game is just over.

Well this is a very good vid indeed, bringing out a lot of good points about Golem and the metagame I general (only thing I don't agree so much with is the fact I feel you kinda underestimate Steelix, I think it can be good as long as you have a specific plan about using it and its Explosion). However I want to tell you one thing. It's a very long vid, especially the intro about past gsc. Non gsc mainers won't likely be interested to spend over an hour hearing about a gsc pokemon and gsc mainers will know most of the stuff already. I think it would be best if it was shorter and more structured, e.g. Golem main set, Golem strong point no1: (probably) only viable spin option on offense, Golem strong point no2: overall role compression, alternative moves&sets In any case, I hope you actually do the vid with borat you mentioned, would really love that

How common is phazers in GSC running a little less speed to win roar wars? I wonder if that pays off in any way

it goes from "fire types you want to check are hitting you with earthquake" to "fire types you want to check are hitting you with focus blast"
