So where I lived Flatbush Brooklyn their was a kid that would get a box of Gameboys.. No advertising I set my eyes on this thing and my mind was blown to smithereens and I begged my mom for it to buy it from him like he was the only thing I ever wanted...as a kid Nintendo couldn't have came in a better time!!

Bring the big boy back to life. Get some vinegar and a toothbrush and q-tip and clean off all the corrosion from the battery connection and it will work like new. I’ve done this with plenty devices from tv remotes, to handhelds, to wireless clippers and nose/ear hair trimmers.

My first gameboy was the color, and I was dumb as a kid I thought it was called gameboy color because it came in different colors, not because the games were in color.

Exactly just like the Switch. I remember my 1st time with the Gameboy with Links awakening & always replaying that damn game. Then when we got the super gameboy everything just went overboard with not only just playing on the go but now we could continue our save data on the TV experience. Definitely wonderful time back then.

I’m in the same boat , I went from a standard gameboy, straight to the GBC ( I got the solid purple one ). I always wanted a Game Boy Pocket , but my parents didn’t think it was worth the upgrade . I never realized the screen was bigger . Great job on this video man ! It’s always nice to see you put the retro content out there .

Never had a pocket, since I had the brick. My progression went from Brick > GBC > GBA > SP. But man the GBA/SP might have the GOAT level of Backwards compatibility and being region free. There might be like 10,000 games between the entire library and regions.

The Game Boy Pocket is smaller and lighter than its predecessor; and the GBP’s display measures 65mm diagonally, which is slightly smaller than the original Game Boy at (66mm or 2.6"), but larger than it’s successor- the Game Boy Color's display (~59mm or 2.32").

I’ve semi-recently decided to start collecting gameboy games, as I loved my gameboy so much as a child. I only had a few games growing up (Zelda, Metroid, Kirby 1, Megaman 4, then the Pokémon games later on), but it always held such a special place in my heart. I love my atomic purple gameboy color, but I prefer to play classic gameboy games on my pocket for the authentic black and white look.

I didn't have a Game Boy Pocket growing up. I could've, since I had the brick Game Boy. And my progressions went from Brick > GBC > GBA. The Game Boy Pocket plays all Game Boy games. There were different variants when it comes to colors. Now they did do this with the standard Game Boy with things like the "Play It Loud!" series. My plan one day is I want to create a Game Boy family line, and purchase the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and the Game Boy Advance SP, along with the Game Boy Advance, which I still own.

I love my Pocket. Imo it's the definitive way to play OG Gameboy games. The Color was nice, but the screen was significantly smaller, and it would force a color palette on GB games that wasn't really meant to be. There's a tiny bit of ghosting with the pocket, but the grey scale monochrome of the pocket was so much better than the greenscale on the DMG. The Pocket is also easier to play in lowlight conditions than both the DMG and GBC.

I had to check and the Pocket does have different documentation inside, but it's not a booklet, just a bunch of different papers folded to look like booklets.
The pocket was my first Game Boy. Got it for $30 brand new in '99, and got a $25 mail-in rebate on it when purchased with Pokemon Red or Blue. So I basically got it brand new for $5 towards the end of it's life cycle. Loved that thing and put it through its paces. Didn't upgrade until the Advance released.

I still have my original Game Boy that must have been a model 1 because it has regular Phillips screws and the Ice Blue Game Boy Pocket.
My original one had the missing lines on the screen, but I then found a video on how to restore the connections by taking a soldering iron and running it over the bottom of the screen where it attaches to the motherboard to remelt the soldered connections and now it works like normal.
I have replaced the windows on both units with glass windows so they won't scratch.
I may do a retrobright process on my original to get the yellow color out due to aging.

Great video! Like yourself, I never had a GB Pocket, but just the Play it Loud and Color systems.
A buddy recently sent me a modded GB Pocket with a nice back light screen to play in the dark. Brings the GB Pocket an extra step up for sure.

The shape of the Analogue Pocket is shaped after rhe Gameboy Pocket, not the Gameboy Color, for this reason.

So blowing in the cartridge fixed the issue or simply removing and reinserting the game resolved the issue….
