My automotive instructor in high school owned a Factory Five version of the Cobra. I was almost strictly an import/JDM kind of guy, but after seeing the Cobra and getting a ride in it, my eyes opened up to the Cobra, muscle, and V8's in general. The torque is unreal. Literally left me shaking from excitement after the first ride. Almost 10 years later, I am still in love with the Cobra. I am moving up through my career and once I have enough money saved up for a fun Sunday car, it'll be the Cobra without a doubt.

@Andy A Hey there friend! Gosh, I can't believe it's been 2 years already. Well, sad part is I never got around to building or buying one. After owning a home since, I'm in the process of selling, moving to the East coast, and looking to get married; so the Cobra project will likely be postponed still. :( With that said, my automotive instructor just texted a video of him doing a burnout in his Cobra, so that was some motivation (and awesome)!

I bought a Backdraft a couple of months ago exactly like this one. Same colour scheme, same engine. It is aReal head turner and SO much fun to drive. I had a guy in a 5.7 litre Charger next to me 2 weeks ago revving up his engine at a stop light near the edge of town. Once the light turned green, he was a distant memory. OH the power.. Thank you Carroll Shelby!!!

I enjoyed this very much. I am 77 years old and have had a Superformance Cobra for 15 years and enjoy it every day I drive it..I have had it on a race track twice and it is a BLAST. It doesn't take long to get up to 160 MPH.

Tony, it may be a little awkward but a person could place a radio and speaker(s) behind your right shoulder in the backboard. You'd probably have to tune in

I would definitely appreciate the longer wheelbase on these cars. I always wanted a 65 Cobra replica, but I thought that taller people looked uncomfortable in them or that their eyes were lined up with the top of the windshield. Looks like the Backdraft replica might be the one for me. Thanks for the review!

Saw one for the first time up close yesterday at the dyno. Indigo blue with white stripes. Beautiful fit and finish for a fiberglass car. Roush 427 power and did sound great. There's a dealer near my office that sells the Backdraft Cobra's new and ask $77,950. Thanks for the review.
Maybe price's are going down, you can get a brand new Backdraft 427 cobra from Naples Motors in Florida for 68-69k. Look them up :)

I couldn't imagine having that much HP in this car. I have a Factory Five with a 302 and it's plenty. It's like a rocket with just around 350 HP

Backdraft are really nice builds and should be for what they cost. I just can't believe they don't have power steering. Factory Five's come with power steering and cost a third less
I like it without powersteering. You only notice it when youre backing out, or doing a U-turn

The classiest Cobras were the ones with the smaller engines: the 289s and 305 HO motors. They had more equitable weight distribution from front to rear, were lighter than the big blocks overall and handled a whole hell of a lot better through the curves. With a 4:11 or 4:56 rear end coupled to a 5 speed stick these smaller block Cobras could actually out accelerate the bigger blocked, more powerful versions. 500 plus horses is just too much for these frames. Optimum hp for them is around 350 to 375. The original 427 Cobra acquired the dubious nickname "Flexible Flyer" owing to the fact that when you stomped the pedal to the metal on them the tremendous torque would twist the aluminum frame and instantly shatter their windshields. It was a sad case of overkill with the 427, but the 289/305 V-8 and the proper gear train was an unbeatable combo for that Shelby AC chassis. All the blistering fast street machine fighter Cobras of that era were light, high-revving, 3/4 cam, 4bbl., solid lifter small blocks.

Gee, thats a swell story.What a shame none of it is true.They didnt have 5speeds,aluminum frames,and the windshields were not stressed members of the frame so they never shattered.So all in all a total load of nonsense.

Ford only build a 351 , in two forms , 1 is the Windsor short block and extremely rare , the other is the Cleveland 351 which is far more powerful than the Chevy 350 , Ford distributors are in the front , Chevy and Chrysler at the back , I find the e36 suspension a giggle as the shocks , turrets and the like all stick out of the bodywork , the shocks and springs are all pure Jaguar xj6 , xjs rear suspension , they are the only ones that will ever fit , yes the wishbones are BMW but thats it . I know , I have built Cobras . KC Cobras .
How stable is it at really high speeds?
For the most part yes! Right now it begins to wobble at about 120. But I think it’s because it needs a new alignment/tires

Lol very true. But in the video I stated that it shares its suspension from the E36 m3 because that’s how backdraft made it so the suspension is fairly updated.
I know the aerodynamics are not the best and the car is really light but The shake that I feel around that MPH shouldn’t be there. It’s going into the shop in about 2 weeks for some service and that’s one of the things that is being looked at👍🏼

Why would you need to drive at 120 anyway? Not many places in North America that you can drive those speeds. Germany maybe. This is a fun car to cruise in and make noise. You have to know this is a machine that does not handle well. An ordinary Porsche with less Hp will kill this on a twisty road. Still want to have one though.
I like this version in iconic blue. Another version of Backdraft has a black powder-coated rollbar, headlight bezels, windshield frame, pretty much everything chrome is black, and I think it goes too far with the modernization.

If you go to the Backdraft site they are careful to state that they have no connection to Shelby or Cobra.

The only thing that bothers me and bothers me on all reproduction Cobras is the tail lights. The four small is just wrong and the correct two rectangular ovals just looks a million times better. Other than that I need one before I leave this Earth.

Actually.....neither would be real Cobra but in reality, they are better mechanically than a real Cobra in every way and that includes performance.
The main way that a Kirkham is related to the original cobra is the aluminum body. The original cobra's had aluminum bodies
