      Yeah I think so too. And I think specifically he is talking about how these rappers will earn all this money and use it on their useless accessories and such, only to then point at companies run by white guys saying that "they're the bad guys".

  • @matthewzimmerman5064

    I took the phrase “ turn 10k bright eyes (meaning impressionable listeners) to the companies run by white guys (meaning the rappers are pushing sponsorships or whoever pays them on the impressionable)!” However in the verse before that he called them out for making fame on calling for a race war. So if they’re against the corporate elite why are they taking those sponsors and pushing their followers toward the corporate elite.
    Did I interpret that correctly or am I interpreting his message in a way that wasn’t intended?

    • @ashabahn
      @ashabahn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe your right! But I believe it can also be a continuation from the previous verse about spending money on flashy things, things owned by white guys. "Bright eyes" are often associated with youth or those who are enamored. While "bright" and "10k" on their own, to me, evokes flashy jewelry, etc.

    • @jordanneedscoffee
      @jordanneedscoffee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I took it pretty similarly. It kind of came of to me as him venting at the rap community saying "Hey dumbasses if you hate the rich people who own the rap industry acting like they own the world and shit then why are you working for them and giving them your fans loyalty, attention, and money?". He's calling out rappers who sellout to corporations.

      U right.

    • @meesegomoo1836
      @meesegomoo1836 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it IS a racial thing.
      In the early 00's race wars were something people ACTUALLY talked about positively in some circles.
      It's about how these guys sold out, yet somehow it turned out better.
      Like, the love of money is the root of all evil, and yet capitalism (at least in this example) is the great equalizer.
      It's about irony. This is hinted at several points throughout the song

  • @joshbull623
    @joshbull623 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    "turn ten thousand bright eyes to the company run by the white guys" and that whole verse about accessorizing even, is directly linked to the previous line "the rappers that made a name for calling for a race war". It is about how these rappers call for people of color to rise up, sometimes dangerously violently, against the people they themselves are working for while directing these same people they are calling to rise up to also pour their money into the pockets of said white guys insolating them and ensuring they will not ever change or help. Also the line about accessorizing is used I believe because often one of the primary reasons rappers call people to rise up is due to their low economic standing which they then fuel by reasoning is the fault of white people all the while spending often hundreds of millions on stupid shyt, meanwhile their childhood school is begging for the 10th year in a row for a simple budget increase of $2000 for up to date classroom textbooks. He brought up the same thing in his song 'oh bo'.

  • @5danieldavis
    @5danieldavis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    To your comment about him having the balls to say what he does even through his anxiety: from his talks on his specials and interviews, he does talk extensively about his anxiety and depression. The reason that I bring it up is that he also talks about self destructive things that he says and does, I almost feel like some of these songs, like problematic, are him literally trying to get canceled. I feel that this is him trying to get the record companies and everyone in it called out and noticed by their fans, weather or not he becomes a martyr for it. It seems like he's self-sabatoging his way to success

    Honestly, you're speaking truth. I don't want everyone to be equal in every way, but we could maybe lessen that gap between the 1% and the rest. I don't even think the rich have a duty to donate.... but it's nice to do, and when they are trying to get this pristine image of an excessively giving person while still living beyond excess, hard to be as impressed. Not to say charity is any less valuable because someone has more - I'd rather someone without funds to spare not spare them for others - but it doesn't match the narrative

    I think the “god bless you common cold” part is also in reference to the super oppressive pope Benedict dying of a common illness (assumed to possibly be the common cold, tho I don’t think his exact cause of death was ever actually disclosed). And basically saying thank god he was replaced as the pope since he was an unkind and heartless person who never actually made any attempt to help the less fortunate. I won't tell you my Bo question, but I will tell you my other favorite questions. "Is it Kansas Wine or Cans Of Swine?" to Les Claypool and " What about Mary Ann?" to Jimmy Pop.

    Socialists believe that hard work should be rewarded by keeping your money, that's like the main principle, workers owning the means of production, work places being democratic and the people who actually doing the work having control over the conditions of their working environment and the profits produced from their own labor.
    Capitalism is the system that separates the money from the people doing hard work by definition, the entire principle behind capitalism is that capital is permitted to amass more capital, not through labor but through interest and investment, the entire system is designed to funnel money away from the people actually working and producing things and towards owners and shareholders who've usually never had to do a hard days work in their life.
    Gotta overcome that capitalist propaganda programming my man, trickle down economics has been fucking us in the ass for decades, capitalists have been fighting the class war for centuries and they've been winning so completely for so long now that most of the modern generations don't even realize there is a war being waged against them or appreciate the struggles of past generations and the history of class struggle. Go read some Eugene Debs speeches, good for your brain.
