    Hello, just amazing how your explain all your Packaging!! I am not a artist that sells prints. I am a paper artist and Dabble in lots of Different crafts. But my 30 yr old Daughter is amazing at her art I have been selling on Etsy for over 10 years. I have always encouraged her to sell her art. She has always been stuck on the shipping part. She is passing down all her talentes to my 10 yr old Grandaughter and they are both amazing. I will be forwarding this to her. She is a single Mom and In California she could really use some extra Side income that she enjoys doing more then her normal 9 to 5 job. What kind of Paper do you use for your originals. Im sure she already knows LOL.. BIG Thanks to you for helping and sharing your knowledge with her and other beginner Online artist💜 I am going to sub. So I don't lose you. Have a creative Day. Thank you for this really useful video. I have sold mainly prints on Etsy and Ebay over the past couple of years. I use board backed envelopes and I use a piece of thin card, usually cut down from a recycled source, Amazon packaging, cereal boxes, anything clean and suitable, to protect the front of the print when in transit. I use a cellophane wrapper, like you do, and I insert a small (about 2" x 3") Certificate of Authenticity which I sign and date and list the materials. I wrap the cellophane wrapped print in a layer of tissue paper, sealed with little sticky white dots. I also include a complement slip which I print myself, I also print the COA myself on my inkjet printer. I include a little bit of 'caring for your item' info' in my COA. I do worry about packaging, how to package, etc... especially when sending overseas. So far most of my sales have been on paper, like your print, but I'm not so confident about sending larger things, such as work on canvas. Your video has given me food for thought however, about what to include with my prints/artwork. Thank you once again.

    Hi Ellen.... I've done a lot of artwork for a client who personalizes her packaging and product in a similar fashion. She produces buttons of various sizes from artwork that she commissions from me and sells them on Ebay. She is very particular in her packaging and adds little extras just like you do to make her clients feel special as well. This was a great video showcasing something special that would help make anyone's business stand out from the crowd. I know I would be a little more impressed, and would probably order again if I received my order in such a special way.Thanks for sharing.

    I really enjoy your videos, Ellen. Your explanations are clear and very helpful. I do not offer prints at this time except on FineArtAmerica and they do the work. However with that being said, I don't sell many prints through them. I do sell a lot of original commissions and package them in a thin hardboard purchased at the hardware store that cannot be bend in any way. It really doesn't add any extra to the shipping and I feel more comfortable that the original art is protected. I also offer a certificate of authenticity and make a small note about how to care for the artwork. I also throw in a card with my art on it and business cards.

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peggy, thank you so much for sharing your shipping practices - so generous of you! I never would have though of using hardboard for paintings. Do you ship framed work under glass or is it canvas? I became quite frustrated trying to find ways to ship framed work; the expense is extraordinary if I have a professional do it but I don't trust myself to do it either (shipping has always been the bane of my existence!) 😂

    • @peggyosborne3512

      @@EllenBrennemanStudio , I do not shipped framed artwork. I place the art in a plastic sleeve. My clients pay shipping but I try to keep the shipping cost as low as possible. I find that it is the insurance that jumps the price up and I always ship originals with insurance.

    Thank you for your video. I ordered a print from a friend who had photographed our summer home. He put it into a tube (2.5" diam. x 18'L). I was shocked when I found it not at my front door but rather it had been squeezed and shoved into my mail slot and dropped into my garage floor!!!!! It obviously ruined the print. When I asked the mailman what he was thinking, he said he thought it was going to fit! Well, at what point does one figure that out.... before or after you have to squeeze a tube flat so it fits into a mail slot. Crazy. He seemed perplexed that I was restrain-fully super annoyed. I had to reorder and reported it to USPS but no feedback was had. What do you do if it gets damaged and the client has no way to recover the cost? What is your policy? thank you... love your work.

      @@EllenBrennemanStudio Dear Ellen! Derwent is working with an amazing Artist together,she has a TH-cam channel,too! Have you ever heard of Lisa Clough, the artist behind Lachri Fine Art? She tested a product of Derwent, she was less than impressed with. Derwent wrote her back and apologized that she didn't like this product and they offered her to send two complete sets of the derwent inktense blocks and pencils...what they really did and she was surprised that a company actually cares what we artists think of their product,cause not so many do! Then they asked her if she was interested in painting the new covers of the inktense blocks and pencils,cause they liked how and what she did when she first tried them out from a smart box she got. Of course she agreed! She painted the cover of the blocks with 100% blocks and the cover of the pencils with 100% pencils! She has a video on her channel how she did them! They came out beautifully! Derwent has a light fastness list of their pencils and blocks,but only in dry form! Most of them are very lightfast dry. But they are currently working on that problem,cause the rating changes depending on how many water you add to them. She also asked them,if they can recommend a spray or something that makes it lightfast and they answered her,that this is something they would look into! Lisa even makes her own tests with the least lightfast colors of the inktense line herself! She said that if she or derwent could find something that protects the painting from fading out, whether it's a UV-Spray or UV glass then she would be totally happy and satisfied AND she would sell originals of her inktense paintings and prints. But til there isn't a solution for this major problem,she only sells prints of her inktense paintings and keeps the originals for herself! But I am always fair,dear Ellen, if you think about that this Art Medium is only arround since 2006, which is no time for an Art Medium at all, than I must say that they are doing a great job and even care what artists think of this product. And they even ask an artist for helping them,improving their products! That is totally awesome!
      I love inktense,too,dearest Ellen!
      If you are interested in checking out Lisas experences with inktense, cause she is a proffessional artist like you Ellen, search in the TH-cam bar Lachri fine art and she shows right up! In her playlists she its own category that says "Inktense", she has 16 videos/tutorials in this list right now. There you can find all the things I told you about and more, shortcut: her whole " Derwent Inktense Story",if you are maybe interested! Thank you as always,for your kind respond,dear Ellen! I have a question! How do you go about ensuring your customers get their artwork? I will be selling 5x7 and 8x10 inch prints and one option I have is to send the mail as first class mail (with no tracking #). To get a tracking number I must ship it as priority mail or certified mail. I will be selling from my own website and there is actually no option for certified mail. I don't want to force my customers to order priority mail but I also don't like the idea that there would be no tracking number. Do you have any advice? For your smaller prints, do you send them first class? By the way, your artwork is sooo beautiful and this video was very informative! I appreciate it!

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I have tracking for all of the work I send out, regardless of how small - however, I ship through Etsy which offers a discount on postage and they provide me with a tracking number. When I ship through my website I redirect to PayPal, which also offers a discount on shipping (and tracking number) as opposed to going to the post office. Essentially, if you can create a label online through a third party, you can save quite a bit of money (sometimes by $2-3 I've found!) and not have to ship priority. Incidentally, I ship First Class with Etsy and with Paypal.

    Hello I have a question about your prints with white boarders. I want to sell my prints with a bit of a boarder but worry about it fitting in the customer's frames. How much boarder do you use and do you feel like it makes a difference when it comes to a frame being matted or not? For example: A4 paper and A4 frame with matte- if I print on A4 paper, with the white boarders, would my painting be too small for the matte opening? Would I have to print on larger paper and cut it down? I hope my question makes sense! Thanks!

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My customers prefer no border, so I print all the way to the edge. If in doubt, you could always offer the option of adding one and it shouldn't change the overall image if it's small enough.

    Hello, Ellen, thank you for this video! Do you sign each print by hand before or after you print it? What kind of pen do you use? Thanks so much!

      Thank you for your kind comment! Good question, btw! I do sign every print by hand after I print it out so I can strategically place it where it isn't going to be too obtrusive. I use a Micron pen to sign my work ☺️

      @@EllenBrennemanStudio thank you, Ellen! Do you have any thoughts for if we are having our art printed by a company? Should we wait until the prints are printed before signing?

      I offer the option for digital signatures on my larger prints for those whom prefer a preference. Your only other option would be to have your company send your prints to you for signing and then ship them out yourself after that but the problem with this is the time it will take for your customer to get their order.

    Have you ever used tubes to ship A3 giclee prints? I'm wondering if it will have any problems. I have purchased a Canon S10 now. :)

      I am actually now using tubes for my 16x20 prints. It is much less costly and always protects the artwork so much better than shipping flat 😊

    Wouldn't the how to care for your art letter also apply to prints?

    The certificate of authenticity, is it something that you make or do you have to get someone else to speak for your artwork?

    A sketch, throw in an artist book or some free zines.

    Hi! What do you do if the person lives far away and the shipping price is very high?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is a weight that I will be using regularly, I take it to the post office and have them weigh it, then base my International prices similar to that :)

      openyoureyes Hi! I am not at my desktop to provide you with a proper link, I’m sorry - but I have a couple of videos that discuss my printer and paper choices if you are interested. If not, I use a canon 100 series printer and Lex jet paper 😊
