    I recently realized the same thing... what I also realized, to not get bored of a series, you can also have 2 series on the go. I switch between 3 series now depending on my mood and have all sorts of work now :)

      So nice to connect with someone else that does series work! And great point! Working on two or three at once definitely keeps things from getting stale. Thanks for mentioning that! :)

    Series are also great to market to manufacturers for licensing. They usually want a minimum of 10 pieces.

    Great topic for this video. I started watercolor painting about 8 years ago. I had a wonderful teacher. And, she suggested that I consider painting a series.....all for the same reasons that you hit on in this topic......I'm still trying to figure out what that subject might be,,,LOL. Yes, you were missed....I look forward to these types of talks and I enjoyed some of your painting demonstrations and especially your wonderful palette selections. I have to think more outside the box.....I'm such a conventional thinker. I think that comes from my many years of classical ballet training......I gotta think Loose! Thank you for making me consider series work.

      Judy, how wonderful to learn you studied classical ballet - wow! As for series work, I think it comes from whatever we feel passionate about, what we find familiar, or whatever stirs our souls. ❤️

    Ellen I truly appreciate your videos. I am an artist of many years in my spare time as a hobby , yet in recent years I had such positive feedback .. I was trying so hard to branch out to much larger audience …but have been constantly frustrated by the fact that I am not in a position of having both money AND time to create a full time business . I find it’s a case of .. I have the time …but no money to invest .. or I have the money to build something but no time … I have full time demanding job and no time left to finish off any current work let alone anything else. .. it’s a. Conundrum as I’m sure many others battle with .. when lockdown happened my life turned upside down like most people, … I couldn’t handle social,media at the time so to protect my mental health I took a long time out of social media,… now I am ready to showcase again and share .. the algorithms on various sites are penalising me so hardly anyone is getting my posts …I am sure you have probably addressed this in other videos … but if you have any extra advice regarding social media .. I’d appreciate it. Love your story and examples of the collections you created that kept you afloat year to year…very inspiring ! Gorgeous work as always . Thanks for the UK .

    Thank you Ellen for this video, I am also one of those who have been missing you! I am a coloring book artist and working on my Tarot coloring book right now and thinking to create the whole Tarot deck. I am following your channel as it's so useful for us artists! And you're such a kind and nice person to listen to and giving so much great content. I can only agree with creating series - that's what I do when creating a coloring book for adults. Once I get the right idea, and I start planning and working on my new series of illustrations, the art starts to flow and I enjoy the process so much. I am looking forward your new series :)

There are too many options! This is a good reminder that you have to have some limitations, so I'll keep this in mind.

    Rumi - Dschalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, a Persian islamic Sufi sage, 13th century, from Greater Khorasan in Greater Iran. Not exactly a man of Yoga which is part of Hindu philosophy, in India, but definitely a great mystic, etc. Our western Yoga is clearly different from the original Yoga. I like the teachings of Sadhguru (youtube!). He is at home in the material and in the spiritual world. Interesting: Wassily Kandinsky, maybe THE father of abstract art, wrote a book in 1910: The spiritual in art.

      just Google: "custom tarot cards." you'll quickly find sites and answers.
      a good site is makeplayingcards.com
      also, it's good to note that oracle cards are different than tarot cards. oracle cards are A LOT easier to make than tarot. you can basically use any idea to create a deck of oracles, but in a nutshell, they're basically a deck of inspiration and/or affirmations.
      go to etsy and search them.
      you'll get the gist.
      hope that helps! 😁

    Thanks Ellen, I am really trying to force a series to be born. I paint flowers in general in watercolour, but feel myself bouncing from one look to another. It does require some discipline right?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, Crystal :) It does require a bit of discipline but I think even more so, one has to be passionate about the subject matter. If it isn't something you can see yourself expanding upon, perhaps look at it from another angle, incorporate another subject matter into your existing subject matter, etc. You could always begin small, too - for example, choosing the seasons as your series and paint plants/flowers that thrive during summer, fall, winter and autumn. Or, you could choose one subject matter to appear in a number of paintings - say, a bird, or even something as small as an insect or two. The more you begin thinking in relationships/themes, the easier it will be for ideas to come!

    • @crystaltanart
      @crystaltanart 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Ellen, thank you for your long detailed advice! So far, my interest jumps to a new thing after just 2 - 4 paintings (and not actual large paintings, just small ones), so before I can really go deep, I so quickly move on. There are just too many things calling for my attention. I think I just have to follow my gut and experiment like crazy till I find something that holds me long enough to really want to make more of the same theme or subject or element or season as you suggested. @@EllenBrennemanStudio

Is this necessary? Thanks
