There is one thing that I did not hear mentioned in this video. Paper has a grain. If you roll your poster against the grain it can damage it. Most posters the grain runs the length, or horizontally. So, when you roll the poster in the kraft paper, it needs to be rolled horizontally. I noticed that Cathy (sp?) rolled her poster vertically. The grain in the paper may run that way due to how it was printed, but most large posters run horizontally. If you feel resistance when you begin the roll you are rolling against the grain. You need to roll it the other way. And - start with a large curl then roll it tightly and just smaller than the tube. Once you place it in the tube it will expand.
Thanks for the input! I can see how it could be an issue to look out for thicker or fibrous fine art papers. I haven't personally gotten complaints about damages when I roll my prints either way.
Hi, thank you for specific and detailed instructions. Very helpful! the only problem with twine or any other ribbon on your flat shipments is that if something very heavy was to be laid on top of your envelope, it would leave an imprint on your art piece.
That is correct Malgozata. We personally have not had that issue. Since we released this video we have stopped putting any twine on the print to save on time :)

Would you recommend using poly sleeves for 24x18 prints??? So rather using craft paper, I put my print into a sturdy, resealable poly sleeve (and in that sleeve put w/e paper extras like thank you cards, coupons, stickers, etc) then carefully roll for a 3" shipping tube? Awesome and resourceful videos in general, thank you for doing these!
Thank you for the support Wet Denim. I dont see why not. As long as you use Shipping tube you should be good. Only call out is poly not as recyclable as paper if you care about that stuff. If it doesnt work you’ll find out fast and check and adjust. You got this!!!
Hi! When it comes to mailing prints in those tubes, I know you mentioned you use filler of some sort, like bubble wrap, to ensure the print doesn't get ruined form moving around. I've never shipped prints using a tube, and was curious if you can explain exactly how you fill in the space, without damaging the print. Thank you so much :) !
it’s not a fancy process really, :) I just crunch up some kraft paper (the same paper I use to roll my prints), and insert them on either end to make sure the prints can’t move inside the tube.
I ship prints in cardboard tubes since the prints are fairly large. It doesn't matter how many warnings I put on the tubes saying things like "fragile" and "do not crush," the post office damages at minimum 50% of the products I send. So my biggest tip is avoid shipping anything via USPS. You will just end up re-shipping it later and fighting tooth and nail for the insurance claim.
This video was so instructive. Thank you. I was wondering what type of paper and gsm you use for the large alphabet print in order for it to not crease in the tube.
Thank you for making this helpful video. Question as I am getting ready to start my first shipping...will the tube make the print permanently rolled/curved? That is what I am currently worried about. Thanks!
they’ll have to unroll and place it under something weighted to flatten it but since most prints are going in a frame anyway, the curling will self correct, but depending on the paper type too. For high end priced prints I would recommend shipping flat to meet customer expectation.
This is a great resource and thank you for your time. I'm a little intimidated by e-commerce. Could you tell us what platform you use to sell products such as paypal etc or does your website package include an e-commerce function?

thanks for the helpful video cathy! out of curiosity, how much does it cost you to ship the 8x10 prints based on the way you package it? thanks in advance! ^^
Sure! It currently costs about $2.66 to ship one 8x10 print in my packaging. I use the shipping program in Etsy and GoShippo for my own ecommerce site and they have similar costs. ShipStation is another shipment management took that many ecommerce owners use.
This is so informative and helpful. Thank you for sharing. Could you please also share the quality of print papers you use for printing ? That would be really great. Thanks in advance 😊
for fine art quality prints I use Epson hot press bright paper and Inkpress watercolor rag. For illustration or digital art with more flat colors I recommend Epson ultra premium presentation matte paper. It's a lot of cost effective.
My large print here is 16x20 inches and I use an 18" mailing tube. for 12x18 you can use a 16" mailing tube, leaving some room on each side for padding with kraft paper.
Depending on rigidity of envelope you hot sure but might be a better customer experience to pull out the print with the back board in sleeve. Okay to test imo.
So I’ve never sold my artwork and def never shipped it. It makes me...so nervous. I recently/am currently investing a lot of time on these stencils that I will be selling for charity. What shipping method are you choosing when shipping through usps to get a price of $3.50? I’m trying to ship domestically within the US. When I try to look online I only see prices of 7-8 dollars.
I use Epson hot press bright for limited edition prints and Epson ultrapremium matte paper for regular art prints. The hot press bright paper is definitely nicer/pricier but doesn't go through the sheet feeder of the printer well, so it requires a lot of manual work. I just upgraded my printer to Epson Stylus pro 800 from an older model. It prints up to 17 inches wide.
I'm using Epson Pro 3880, which is a discontinued model. The current equivalent is the Epson SureColor 800 I think which retails for about $1K and has a few better features. But Epson printers are fantastic when calibrated correctly for the paper being used.

I would like to ask you , when you ship the ORIGINAL ARTWORK on Paper (watercolor or another, for example), How is the packaging and ship for standard sizes for instance 8"x 10", 11"x14"? Thank you so much for your suggests! Regards!
My packaging for original art has more protection than my prints such as a rigid back board on each side and I always ship original paintings flat and I alway make sure it's wrapped in clear cello sleeve such as a clear cello sleeve for water protection. There are art boxes with spacers you can buy to make sure your originals are well protected. @@EasySundayClub Loved your helpful tips, especially on mailing! Not to piggy-back off of this reply, but do you typically mail your art prints regular mail without any tracking? I've always included a tracking number. BTW - I really appreciate you sharing the mailing tube option. I sell art prints in 3 different sizes (8x10, 11x14 and 12x18), but found that the 12x18's were a challenge to mail flat. I will definitely try using the mailing tube. One last thing - where do you buy your rigid mailers?
@@cathyconnor8617Hi Cathy! We typically include some sort of tracking. We purchase shipping through the various platforms we use (Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and GoShippo). They have automated workflows that send customers the shipping info. Great question! We buy rigid mailers through Amazon from a brand called Quality Park. We have found they have the cheapest price w/ the best quality. If you find something else let us know! One thing about the tube, we buy a size that can handle everything from a 12x18 print to a 16x20 print which is the max size we can print in house.

Does the art of an original watercolour get wrecked when you roll in tube ?
I usually ship original art flat. Haven't had to ship oversized originals so can't tell ya.
