    Thank you for mentioning the fill line. There is very little mentioned with the kit instructions about it or in other videos. Too much water can cause the cyst cases not to separate, if there is not enough water in the system the Napoli cannot make it to the center.

    I had one of these when I first started in the hobby in 1969. It worked as you described but I found many shrimp did not find the light and without aeration hatch rate was lower. I lost interest in the apparatus because I thought the success rate (retrievable shrimp compared to the number of eggs I used) was not acceptable. Always appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work. Fred O

      It even states on it the box the hatch rate is 80% which is pretty low

      @@JadrenAquatics I very comfortably with the hatch rate for how easy it is to use. It's actually been a blessing when you have picky fish. I even buy shrimps with salt already added to make life even easier.

      I dunno, for my needs, this would provide a good supply of bbs for new free swimming angelfish, in a reasonable quantity. without so dang much of it, I get it if you have a fish room and feeding everywhere, but the other hatcheries that require lights and airlines and yada yada, it's a big production. For me something like this will do the job quite well without becoming a 2nd job and hatch enough to feed the tiny babies.

    I've been using mine for a couple years. I think it's less hassle than the bigger one. Been thinking of getting a second one.

    More evidence that you don’t need a heater and light to hatch brine shrimp. Been saying it for years. Easy and simple. 👍

      Totally agree, I hatch once a day and never have used a heater or a lamp.

    Bought one a few months ago because I need just a small daily hatching and the product piqued my curiosity. To increase the capture I place a bright over the center net for an hour or so, not simply depending on the ambient light, and, although hatch rate is impossible to determine, I am able to a harvest a surprisingly substantial catch. After a good rinse I reseed it each morning for the next day - set and forget. This one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" products!

    $3 plastic quart jug at Walmart, some salt water and brine shrimp eggs and I’m good. Hatch a tablespoon at a time and filter through coffee filter. Easy.

    I make bbs everyday. I like the idea of easier. But, is the hatch rate good? Is it close to the amount of bbs created the old fashioned way? Thanks for the info. I am definitely curious.😃

      It says 80% on the box I thinks because of no aeration to keep the eggs separated

    The same one I bought a year ago. I need to find a better hatch rate myself. I seem to get about 60% doing nothing. But easy to hatch and catch!

    hey jason, did you ever end up recreating a device like this? it seems like you need a concentric over and then under barrier - maybe reuse tupperware of different sizes.

    I remember my Dad having something like this when I was a kid (30+ years ago; can you tell where I got my passion for fish from?!) It didn’t have the collection cup, tho...that’s really neat!

  • @greenthumbaquariums1185

    I wonder if you could stagger the addition of eggs. So rather than 3 scoops at once, you did a scoop every 12 hours so that you'd have a steady stream of newly hatching BBS. And then the next question would be how many times can you add eggs before the water fouls too much for the eggs to hatch?

    • @JadrenAquatics
      @JadrenAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's worth a try, I doubt you could let it go more than 7 days without cleaning out.

  • @TheZenGinger
    @TheZenGinger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honest question... I’m actually interested in this item... BUT... Now that you’ve hatched for a few days, I’m just curious what the smell was like when you unlocked it, after days without aeration? Truly curious... I’ve gotten some bad smells from other styles of hatcheries after 36 hours... Does it smell like low tide? Seems like it’d get funky... no?

    • @JadrenAquatics
      @JadrenAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it was a very light low tide after probably 96 hours

    Wow that's a lot of eggs you put in .Iv recently changed from pre mixed salt and eggs to more expensive eggs ,and make up myself , and I can't beleve the the hatch rate is up to 95% ,I use bottle hole at bottom with tap , so easy .

    I tried the complicated hatcheries with the upside down bottle and light, and I found them noisy, dirty, cumbersome, space-occupying, and electricity consuming. I tried this one it it was excellent, simple, clean, with no electricity use. I placed it on the floor on top of the register grid of the central heater of the house during winter, and it was great.
