    i've never heard this symphony played so elegantly and clearly before. he played it as if i've never heard it. how beautiful the melody flows. what a performance!

    The clarity and phrasing are impeccable. So many orchestras play this piece as a throwaway. For them it's a foot race from start to finish and much that is in the score cannot be heard. Celibidache lovingly presents the Prokofiev as the jewel that it is!

    Nowadays , most of classic music are played too fast and we lost the soul of everything, the time of living a time of dreaming in it and with Mr Celidibache we feel the lost dimension of space in time inside each note everything his time deeper it's much better like that.

    We all know that the second movement is already marked largo which means slow! So l found it so amusing that this celebrated brilliant, now legendary conducter, would still insist on slowing down even the slow movement of this symphony to a snail's pace!!!!. But what a stroke of genius this was!!! I suddenly found myself hearing certain nuances in this piece that I never knew existed!!! And these nuances could only be heard at this seemingly absurd elementary pace!!! Continue to flow maestro Sergio at your own pace because l have discovered you can do no wrong!!!!!......

    Celibidache had a great sense of rythm which I've very rarely seen in other conductors.

    Prokofiev is so underrated. here he shows that he totally knows how to "do" the romantic style in this nice recording. For something a bit more extravagant try Alexander Nevsky!

    I really love this, and don't mind the fact that it's slower than the versions I'm used to. Watching the conductor ham it up is also adding to the pleasure. I'm pretty good at reading micro expressions, and you can see the "professorial" aspect of his conducting come through. It's interesting to notice a lot of the players are paying a lot more attention than usual to the conductor given that he's conducting it so much more slowly than what the score must indicate.

    Lebhafte und gut detaillierte live Aufführung dieses pseudoklassischen Meisterwerks mit seidigen Töne aller Streicher und milden Töne aller Bläser. Der erfahrene Maestro dirigiert das kompakte und ausgezeichnete Orchester im relativ langsamen Tempo mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wunderschön!

    i like slow interpretations - if they're proportionate to other tempi, and if they have an underlying pulse. celli's are sluggish. the classical symphony of prokoviev is one of the most brilliant sounding pieces written. not so here. maybe he liked a piece to last longer than it should. you can also 'hear' everything at faster tempi. i.e. szell.

    • @dalxo
      @dalxo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't like this interpretation but after repeatedly listening I found it very tasty and love it. This is the pieve where people are split in halves -many dislikes Celli's slow tempo and others hate Gergiev brutally fast tempo. Me personally preffer this although Gergiev did also slower tempo. Anyway I found it important that we have also this slow Celli's tempo so we can compare and have a discussion. Moreover I love when I can choose from so many interpretations (and not only based on instruments playing) but also tempo.

    • @eagle1ear
      @eagle1ear 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that Cellibidache was, more than many conductors, a teacher. Both to audiences and to orchestras. To get an orchestra to play musically at a slower tempo taxes their preconceptions of the music. It also challenges their temperament, a tendency to hurry along, mentally in rehearsal and consequently in performance as well. This tendency applies to many conductors I might add. One should note that this video was of a rehearsal, not a concert. That might have played a part in the tempi as well. Finally, I must say that especially in the finale, I think the tempo was spot on. Why? Because the orchestra was able to articulate the fast passages very cleanly. In many recordings the fast passages are simply sloppily played as the tempo is impossibly fast. This should never happen.

    For the purists commenting on the slow speed: if you watch it at 1.25x the tempo will sound closer to typical for this piece, and of course the sound quality will suffer. It's probably a good idea to revert to normal speed for the fourth movement!

      Questo è un commento che mi piace, ti tengo. Assassino di rara brillantezza ma così son buoni tutti. Klemperer era l'unico a tenere tempi lenti e con tensione e "senso" sempre, Celibidache? Basta dire che non ha mai diretto i cantanti (la cosa più difficile dell'emisfero boreale) in un'opera...e ho detto tutto.

      - Hay que comer lento para saborear gustos y matices y la digestión sea saludable.
      - Un placer o un dolor, es más intenso cuanto más lento.
      - Cuanto mayor te haces, más saboreas cada instante...casi parando el tiempo.
      - Es más dificil dirigir lento, y que no se caiga todo el andamiaje. Y sobre todo es necesario un conocimiento absoluto de las fuerzas tectónicas que rigen la orquesta. Y un tempo de acero.

      Tengo entendido que él tenía una influencia relacionada al hinduismo o budismo, o algo así. Entonces, debemos saber que en el hinduismo se tiene mucho a la importancia al sonido, que penetre en el alma. A ello le llaman mantra. Por ello es que usted puede ver a hunduistas y hasta budistas decir "Ohm" mientras cierran los ojos y lo hacen lento. Ello justifica el porqué el Maestro lo hace lento.
      Pero, ajenos a ello, Kemplerer (en las obras de Beethoven) y Knappertsbusch (En la 3ra de Beethoven) también lo hacen lento. Y puedo decir, en lo personal, que la de Knappertsbusch es una de las más asombrosas que he escuchado.
