We have been spending some time in the city of Porto, Portugal and to be honest we have been blown away by what you can get in terms of food for 6€! You get a full meal with wine & desert & café in a local restaurant. Now it's not going to be ultra refined cuisine but it is exactly what you want to try when travelling to Porto in order to experience the local cuisine.
- The First restaurant is actually no where listed on Google Maps... it is located 2 mn walk from a café called "Epoca" (where we got the 2 cakes). For 6€ one person got: soup + fish & side + wine (0,25l) + café + fruit or desert of the day.
- Cakes café was called "Epicure". They also make their own bread which supposely delicious!
- Wine tasting in Porto - we went to try Port Wine at Burmeister. Super friendly guide. 10€ per person for tour + 2 wines. 15€ for 4 wines.
- Diner time. Local restaurant serving fish. You can have bacalhau and many other local dishes. Make sure the bacalhau has soaked long enough in the water - the server will tell you. Our dinner for four people ended up being 28€. See name & local in blog post. (Trina has it)

I live in London but, my better half is from Porto, so we go there 2-3 times a year to see her family. I absolutely love going there. It's an undiscovered gem far north of the Algarve and Lisbon. Eat & drink where the locals do. They enjoy the finer things in life without a crippling price tag. I think of it as my 2nd home. Porto xxx

Going to be visiting Porto sometime this year bc I started a clothing brand and my manufacturers are based in Porto! So I'll be spending a lot of time there in the coming future if all goes well. Looking forward to trying out these places

A bit of info about the Lello bookshop: if you buy a book, the entrance fee is deducted from the book's price. ; )
12:08 - In that order: 1.Bolo de Bolacha (biscuit cake), made with our traditional Maria biscuit, 2. Looks like Semi-Frio de Caramelo (caramel demi-froid), 3. Molotov (egg whites and caramel), which is usually done in pudding shape but in this case it was the shaped like a roll version, with cinnamon in the middle and sliced almonds on top. : )

Here in Porto right now. The bookstore is now 5 euro. Hope the restaurants are still here! Tourists are definitely catching on.
Great video and I'm happy to see you enjoyed your stay! but to clarify, we do not had "grapa" to the "mosto" to make Porto wine. We had a distilled solution of high quality "aguardente" (or spirit) , unaged with neutral aromas and flavours and previously approved and controled by the Douro and Porto Wine Institute.

Spirit's name is bagaceira, yet just like grappa. The restaurant's name comes from latim "abi, cani", that means "get out of here, dog", or in portuguese "sai, cão".

My recommendation is Bistrô Bom Gosto in Praceta 25 de Abril, 130 in Vila Nova de Gaia. Nice restaurant with brazilian and portuguese food.

Maybe you will have coffee after lunch? 🤣🤣🤣 It's a must Portuguese love coffee but real coffee, short strong expresso and in Porto you ask "Cafe com cheirinho" coffee with a shot of strong old vinic water

JK Rowling was a teacher in Porto and she was married to a aportuguese fellow and had a daughter with him . She had no money and she used to go to Porto coffee houses to write. It is said that Lello Library was an inspiration to her as well as Majestic Café and the college where she taught (has some strange stairs...). Never saw any mention that she worked in Lello...
900 years old? it doesn't seem so old. if it isn't older it surely not one of the oldest cities in the world. A lot of cities in Europe is a lot older, just to give an example Malaga in Spain is over 3000 years old.
well the capital city Lisbon was settled by phoenicians in 1200 BC, so over 3200 years old.
Portugal is older than Spain, and Lisbon is way older than Malaga it's around 3200 years old
