After watching this Video as a prepararation for my Porto trip which just ended, I went to mercado do bolhao (the original one, reopened since end of September 2022) and I had the pleasure to meet Ruben. To everyone who, like me, is fed up with canned fish: go there, mention Just be out, enjoy Ruben's explanation and buy whatever you want there! Ruben even recognised me this morning just outside of the mercado before I took my flight and took some time for a Chat, even if his father was busy preparing the Stall inside.
I am going to Porto again in 3 weeks. Yay! I am going on my own, which is exciting, because I will do everything I want. And I want to wander around, eat, drink beer and wine and then wander around some more and eat and drink some more! I have started a list of tapas style, markets and some cheaper local places. And now I am here for more ideas!
Thanks for this video. We are here now in the city. We had the Chef Guedes and Permil Aperitivo no Pao Semea. Also, the Conga - Bifana Sandwich. All delicious. You are right! You need the pork juices at Case Guedes! Made such a difference. Otherwise I think the spicy bifana wins! Thanks again!
Dont let the seafood rice or any other watery rice dish wait, it is best when eating freshly made before it is all soaked in. The are other similar ones like the simple tomato rice or tomato and beans or even the chicken blood rice. They are all amazing.
Sodas, in general, taste different in Europe. In the US, soda companies tend to use corn syrup as a sweetening agent, but corn syrup is not approved in the EU, thus sodas tend to be sweetened with sugar or stevia.
Not hating here, glad you liked it! But i have to agree! And i think that strong cheeses like goat cheese with bifanas are a also a sin... it's impossible to really taste the meat that way! But eat it the way you like it the most and be happy! It's just not the traditional way!
All these years of being subscribed to your channel, that might be the first time I recall seeing you two wearing jackets! Lol. I might be forgetting your previous trip to Russia, but it doesn't happen very often! 😎🌞🌴
Pastel de bacalhau with cheese is not portuguese tradition. That was invented to appeal to the tastes of tourists, like the americans. For its much better without cheese.
I think pepsi in Europe uses sugar where as pepsi in the us uses high fructose corn syrup. might be wrong though. this video made me seriously hungry !!
@@Livingtheglobe and probably because of the water too. If you taste the water in Portugal and compare with countrys like Spain, France, Belgium, etc., the tast of our water is completely different, so, probably, the water of USA maybe taste different, witch have some impact in the final product. I love our water, maybe it is because im use to it, but i dont think so. I hate the taste of the water in Spain (almost all) and france, for example.
@@Livingtheglobe thanks for your reply. I visited Portugal last month and your videos were super useful. I practically planned my whole trip using your videos and 1 other channel. Santiago is NOT a best place to eat Francesinha….you must go to original location, Restaurante Regaleira.Bonjardim Street. The touristic guides are commercially ignited and then they show the locals that pay publicity and you know as publicity is very false…..we must ask locals, not see commercial guides! Welcome!
@@Livingtheglobe For instance, Brasão and BB Gourmet take-a-way. But many less known locals…speak with Portuenses (people born and leaving in Porto). Portuguese seafood rice is my favourite! I love it. There's a Portuguese restaurant in South London called "A Toca", they do amazing seafood rice!
We miss Portugese food so much ❤️
Sardines are brain food! Not my favourite but I went to a Portuguese restaurant in London yesterday and had them grilled!
Yummm

We both cheeses, goat and sheep cheese. On pastel de bacalhau, the cod is shredded, mixed with smashed potatoes, eggs parsley and onion.

Bifana is amazing, Francesinha is insane.
Oh so miss Portugese food!
Pastéis de Bacalhau withe chess are basically eated by tourist. Most Portuguese consider that a sin

Butter?
Is not butter, is the devine olive oil portuguese. The best of the world
it was butter :)

IT'S olive oil, in portugal we dont use butter for that, never

The closest portuguese dish to "paella" is "arroz à valenciana", because both have roots in Valencia.
Thank you
It's different the Pepsi is made of real sugar not corn starch
Aaaah, wow didnt not think of that! Thank you ❤️
You don't eating sardinhes with
knife and fork.
We actually forgot our chop sticks at home.😂
Eat with the fingers. Lol

Two things: the potatoes served with the sardines are roasted, not boiled, and they're seasoned with portuguese olive oil, not butter.
Sorry but we eat roasted sardines with boiled potatos, in Portugal. Lol
@@mali356 - I was referring especifically to the potatos in the video and btw, I'm portuguese.
beer is cheaper than pepsi ,
Haha, true
I tried them and none of them tastes good, very salty and oily. There are always a lot of people waiting.
Sorry to hear that
No peri peri chicken 😒
Our favorite!
never ever tack a pepesi in portugal
Why?
Had it at Santiago Aug 24 / terrible sandwich avoid- messy , salty soggy and difficult to eat. Terrible experience!
