  • So glad to finally have this done!
I have been working on this creation on and off for over 2 years now! I went from knowing next to nothing about LEGO technic to being a full on technic builder!

I find it a bit strange and unnatural that the water is rising on the sand before the wave arrives: usually the water keeps going back to the sea until the moment a wave crashes on the shore. I wonder if this effect would be achieved by realigning the two systems or if this process would make the movement awkward in another way.
Nevertheless, this is a very nice and cool construction. Well done.

This would be a riptide beach, where the waves push in more water than can ebb back out. There would be dangerous undercurrents running back under the waves that could drag you out to sea. If they don't want to change the timing, they could put up danger signs to make it accurate instead.

Man, I love this so much--I would vote for it and "evangelize" for you if you put this on LEGO Ideas. If you make any future videos with this set or any other iterations of this wave machine, I'd love for you to consider using a song of mine in the background. Here's why it's so on-the-nose: When I was young, my grandfather (who was an engineer) would build my LEGO sets for me. My most epic memory of this was when I got the Black Seas Barracuda one birthday, and he sat for hours assembling it at the big wooden dinner table. Fast forward 25-30 years: My song "Tír na nÓg" is about his decline due to Alzheimer's/dementia. In the first verse, I reference him building the Black Seas Barracuda for me, with this lyric: "a ship that you built out of bricks, from a box when I was six". The ocean/ships/shipwreck theme continues throughout, with the last verse describing a trip to the beach together from the last time I saw him (2017); we stood serenely at Siesta Key Beach (Florida), watching fish and birds in the gentlest waves I've ever stood in. He was so at peace and happy in that moment, despite not know who any of us were. The relaxing flow/speed of your wave machine takes me back to that beautiful moment.
Here's the song: th-cam.com/video/-JHoEKmZ9G8/w-d-xo.html (also has some pictures of me and him).

This is awesome. The mechanical side of lego is another world entirely. And the music you chose is nice and calming, while also being just plain awesome

Amazing work! However, I’m curious to see a different syncing between the movements of the rolling wave and the breaking wave ( by that I mean the water on the beach).
Here, you have them synced in a way that both go forwards and backwards simultaneously. But I wonder whether it looked better, if the breaking wave kept moving forward after the rolling wave disappeared. Because in reality, the wave comes rolling, breaks _and then_ the water of broken wave creeps up the beach. (Here I think it looks a bit weird that water of the broken wave on the beach pulls back immediately after the rolling wave disappeared)
Furthermore, this way the next wave rolling wave would be headed to the beach, while the water is still “flowing” back from the beach into the ocean, which would be really realistic.
Maybe my imagination is wrong but In my inner eye this would look even better.

One more thing i would add is seldom areas of wave rigidification in between the wave generators modules so that the sagging of the mesh would not be static across the movement and create even more detail in the wave.

There's no place I'd rather be
