  • Another video in the series on UK pier fishing and the second of a series on shore fishing in Poole Bay, Dorset (UK).
    This video covers two February daytime sessions on Boscombe Pier (filmed on 14.02.23 and 22.02.23), fishing for plaice, turbot and small-eyed rays. The venue, techniques and rigs are covered; however only small plaice showed up in each session.

    Hi Mick,
    I was away on holiday that week in Fordingbridge and my only spare day was that Tuesday.
    I was told to avoid this pier by the owner of Christchurch Angling he said since they put nets out in front of the pier it is stopping a lot of fish coming in.
    I was advised to fish from Southbourne beach which I did with frozen black lug tipped with thumb nail size squid. I tried Rag but had nothing. All of the 17 plaice I caught came on lug quite a decent session 9am - 5pm it was a fantastic day weather wise as your vid shows once the sun came out and burn’t off the mist.
    I was lucky to be able to keep 4 Plaice all over 29cm with the rest going back to grow bigger 😊
    Keep up the great work you are doing.
    My next session is Walton Pier towards the end of this month 😊

      Always good to get local advice. Sounds like a really good session - hopefully I'll be back that way soon. Apparently Walton and Holland-on-Sea have been fishing well for small codling; however I didn't get any off the beach yesterday!

    Go up towards Bournemouth , opposite the land train garages and Zig Zag path, there are two large groins with concrete and railings. This is an excellent spot for Sole Gurnard and School bass, especially after dark.👍

      I agree - I'd rather be on the beach: but plaice tend to show up on piers and harbour walls before they do on beaches, so I thought this would be a better bet until things improve.

    Very relaxing viewing, Mick. A couple of questions for you. Any reason you didn't cast out in a southerly direction into, possibly, deeper water and if you did manage to get a large fish,how would you land it in a drop net with all those wires ? Hope to get some plaice myself this weekend. Keep the videos coming.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions. I think there are snags straight in front of the pier (remains of old pier?). Yes, landing a decent fish would create a few problems - could 'walk' it to the stem of the pier, where the wires end and hand line it up? I'll be back sometime to fish different parts of the pier.

  • @dm51964
    @dm51964 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I used to fish it regular from 2013-15 and found the other side often fished better. I had 18 different species from the pier and found it fishes best late summer through to late autumn and have had some superb sessions on it during the day and into the evening. At that time you could only fish to 10 and then you had to be a club member to stay later

    Hi Rod. Great channel and really enjoy your content. Can you explain what benefit a £700 rod makes vs a £50 rod?

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! Not much, unless you go quite often - better build quality, so should last longer; stiffer and slimmer than cheeper models, so you can cast further if needed and have more confidence in the sensitive tips not breaking, particularly when hauling in lots of weed. I love mine, but also use cheaper ones with more give sometimes. Just use what you are happy with, irrespective of cost - you'll still catch!

  • @joesmith1036
    @joesmith1036 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi mate lovely video, are you able to keep the catch what are the rules around mackerel fishing ? And if you are allowed to keep then what sizes do you have to put hack, also are we allowed to fish Bournemouth Pier? If so please advise best soot

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about feathering and have never tried to fish Bournemouth pier, so can't help there, I'm afraid. Size limits apply to all sea fishing - beach, pier and boat; so, if you intend to take your catch, you need to be aware of minimum sizes. Check the Southern IFCA website - they will send you a free sticker with mimimum sizes, if you request it.
