The real irony here is that Kuzco was already off the bridge. He only fell through because he went back just so he could have the last word.
He cared more about being an asshole than he did about getting back to the palace.
Same goes for the jaguar chase. They only woke up because Kuzco laughed at the squirrel.

The writers really, and I mean REALLY, committed to making him an unlikeable shitstain in the first half. The scene where he prioritises saving Patcha over getting the potion was really needed to make his arc complete.

This is one of those movies that just seems to get better as you get older. The humor is silly, but well crafted. My favorite lines were when they were tied to the log and about to go over the waterfall.
    "Uh-oh."
"Let me guess. We're about to go over a waterfall."
    "Yep."
"Razer sharp rocks at the bottom?"
    "Most likely."
    "Bring it on...BOO-YAH!"
It was the flat deadpan delivery that did it. My friends and I used variations of that one for years.

Never really looked up the voice actors, loved the movie since it came out. But i grew up with it, fully voiced in Danish and they did a pretty good job with that, so as a kid/teen, i never thought about watching it in english until i was a young adult. While watching this reaction, though, i definitely recognized David Spade's voice and even thought to myself "Kronk sounds a lot like Joe Swanson". Didn't recognize John Goodman's voice until i saw your comment, but now i can't unhear it

Agreed Kronk and the squirrel are the best! Amazingly Disney seems to think so as well since the sequel is Kronk’s New Groove! My favorite joke in this movie is when they get to the palace and it turns out Yzma and Kronk have arrived ahead of them. They ask how they got their before them and Yzma then also looks confused and asks Kronk. And then Kronk just admits that by all accounts it doesn’t make any sense which is basically the writers saying to the audience “Yeah we aren’t even going to bother to come up with a plausible explanation so deal with it.” And that’s it the movie just keeps going. It still makes me laugh do much because it’s such a subversion of expectation!

There are two reasons Yzma ends up as a cat. The first is the actress who plays Yzma is Eartha KITT, who was a singer & actress. The second is that Eartha played Catwoman in the Batman TV series. She was the third actress to play the character.
David Spade, who played Kuzco was in a TV series with Wendie Malick, who was the voice of Pacha's wife, Chicha called Just Shoot Me! It's a very funny show if you ever get the chance to see it.
Also there was an animated series, The Emperor's New School that ran for a couple of years, but David Spade didn't play the Emperor in it. The other voice actors, including John Goodman did reprise their roles for it.

Unfortunately this movie released at a time where 2D animation wasn't doing too well at the box office, and Disney shortly abandoned 2D animation for their feature films in order to focus on 3D animation.
They would return to the 2D medium for 'Princess and the Frog' in 2009, but it didn't do well, and so Disney stopped making 2D movies all together. Really sad.

Man this is such an underrated Disney movie, imo. I still remember the first time I saw this. I laughed until I cried. It felt so short because of how funny it was - which made it go by so fast!

What makes this movie such a masterpiece is that it was almost entirely improvised from scratch, after the initial script was scrapped with very little time left for their deadline. I highly encourage looking up the video documenting this hidden truth behind this movie, it is an incredible insight.

I’m Yzma during dinner time everyday whenever she shouts “It’s Dinner time!” It’s just so memorable. This entire movie is just epic.
