      It's only because a lot of us as kids watched this movie and surprisingly found out we saw Velma as more attractive than Daphne, who was supposed to be the attractive one. Don't get me wrong, Daphne is played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, so she IS attractive. But a lot of us clearly thought Linda Cardellini was hotter. Especially when there was a deleted scene of her in a bikini.

    Okay, let's run through this.
    - Velma is lowkey hot AF. She's played PERFECTLY by Linda Cardellini (Hawkeye's wife), who is gorgeous AF. Relentlessly dry and nerdy IS the character.
    - Fred and Daphne, played by Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michele Gellar, who were and still are married in real life.
    - Shaggy is FLAWLESS casting. Matthew Lillard is always awesome in everything he's in, but that man was BORN to play Shaggy. He has been the voice of Shaggy in ALL Scooby Doo media since Casey Kasem retired in 2009.
    - A young Isla Fisher as Mary Jane? God. Damn.
    - Scrappy Doo is the 6th most important Scooby Doo character. He's the occasional 6th member of the Scooby Gang. He's Scooby's nephew. A lot of people HATE him, so they made him a villain in this movie.
    - James Gunn wrote both of the Scooby Doo movies. THAT'S why they're this good.
    - This was William Hanna's last project (as in Hanna-Barbera - the creators/producers of Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, the Jetsons, Smurfs, Josie & The Pussycats, Jonny Quest, etc etc etc etc)

    The reason why so many jokes and references seem a bit too "adult" for a kids movie is cause it was originally going to be R rated! But for a reason I don't remember rn (studio change or sth), they had to change the tone and allude more to things rather than straight up say it! (For instance : at the beginning, shaggy and scooby were initially supposed to be smoking weed in the van, but they changed it to a grill situation but still put THE song in the background so we would get the idea lmao)

    Scrappy Doo was a character on the cartoon, he is Scooby's nephew.
    He didn't last long, because a lot of people found him annoying.

    • @radwolf76
      @radwolf76 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn't last long? He was part of the franchise for all new Scooby Doo content released from 79-85. Considering the original started in 69, that was like a third of the franchise at the time. We've moved on since then, but six years of the annoying little shit is a literal lifetime when you're a kid.

      @@radwolf76 Is he still part of the current canon?

    • @radwolf76
      @radwolf76 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DAMIENDMILLS He appeared as a statue in a museum in a first season episode of Mystery Incorporated in 2011. Daphne starts to say something about him only to be interrupted by Fred who reminds her that they swore never to talk of him again.
      2019's Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, a follow up to the last TV series to feature scrappy has a character from that series ask whatever happened to Scrappy only for Velma to ask "What's a Scrappy?"
      So it seems his only impact on the canon past the live action movie is to specifically unpersoned every now and then, almost as if in apology. And now that the franchise is 50+ years old, those 6 years he was an active part of it grow increasingly less significant.

    Velma was always my favorite growing up because she was known for her smarts not for her looks. Also when Shaggy and Scooby meet up with monster Fred, he actually says, “Yo, yo. The biatch (bitch) was like, what?” I remember I watched the movie with subtitles on one time and when I realized he actually said bitch, I was stunned because I had seen this movie hundreds of times and never realized it.

    I saw this movie when I was 10, and a huge Scooby fan. And while I liked it overall, there was always something about the tone that felt... weird... to me.
    And then I learned James Gunn, of Guardians of the Galaxy, originally wrote this as a PG-13/R-rated PARDOY of Scooby Doo before higher ups decided that would be a hard sell and made it a straight live action adaptation.
    It explained SO MUCH of the weirder elements of this movie, with them trying to mesh the adult and child-friendly tones, resulting in this sort of aura of grunginess to the whole film

    • @lucasdolding6924
      @lucasdolding6924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not exactly meddling when an R/PG13 rated Scooby Doo film is a dumb idea that wouldn't sell. Scooby Doo is for kids, just pushing the boundaries is the right tone for this but to go any further like Gunn wanted to is stupid.

    • @kateorgera5907
      @kateorgera5907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lucasdolding6924 Honestly, I agree with you. I just referred to it as "executive meddling" because that's what they call it on TV Tropes. Listen, if they had released this as PG13/R when I was 10, I wouldn't have even been allowed to see it, and that would have been so upsetting for young me, so I'm thankful it didn't get much further. But yeah, even what's there is pushing it at times. I'm gonna edit the wording

    • @lucasdolding6924
      @lucasdolding6924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kateorgera5907 Yeah it was a lot of people’s childhood and I don’t understand why people in our generation want it to have been rated R when if it was we probably wouldn’t have ever seen it or loved it like we do. Seems kinda selfish of Gunn to still be mad that he wasn’t allowed to make it R, but I don’t really like him as a person anyway so I’m not too surprised.
