Weren't these written by Scott Johnson? It think it's interesting how there's a subtle difference in writing drumline music for a drum corps show and music that sounds like a college drumline. There's a difference in intensity and energy. Where corps music could arguably be called more "musical" or "lyrical," college drumline is designed to get you hyped up. Scott Johnson really knows how to write for drums!
It seems to me that drum corp is more about playing technical over musically. It takes a lot of skill, but it's often hard to find any sort of rhythm for the average listener. If I want to see nothing but technical ability, drum corp. If I want to be entertained, college drumline or similar. Blue Devils vs Top Secret is a great comparison on the different styles. There's a video of it on here.
@@Nareimooncatt I think "musical" is a tough term to use because it might be incorrectly attached to value. What I mean is that drum corps drum writing is beholden to accompanying the score. Even when it's a feature it has the idiomatic requirements of dynamic rise and fall as well as leaving room for the front line percussion section. College drumming is all about the groove which is what gives its hype energy. The last drum corps writer that would write with hype groove was Tom Float.
Great Job, you killed it! The 2013 blue devils drumline were the ones that did the recording for the movie. I had the privilege of being a part of that. I do still have the original sheet music but I’d probably get in a lot of trouble if I shared that 😅
@@darthvader9969 Overall he was really close. Especially considering he could only use his ears and didn't have a video to use. 1st Cadence - about 90% correct. The majority of the rhythms are correct. Some minor sticking differences but pretty much nailed it. 2nd Cadence - Basically correct, its a super short one 3rd Cadence - Same as the first about 90% correct. Just missed minor sticking stuff and some taps here and there. 4th Cadence - This one had the most mistakes but they're all small mistakes he nailed the overall rhythms. 5th, 6th, & 7th Cadence - I don't have the music for these or really remember them. They had the movie playing in the background for us and we made up some parts on the spot for the movie.
Two things: 1. LOVE the Black Socks your Drumline plays in. 2. It's sounded awesome! Blue Devils played killer for the movie too! BONUS NUMBER! 3. Your drumline must have had fun putting this together! HUGE thumbs up, Eric!
I think i remember seeing somewhere that the Blue Devils drumline actually recorded the drumlines in the movie. Can anyone confirm? I think i heard it in some behind the scenes thing
As always love the work and videos and ALL of my students are subscribed. However there is one problem,,,,,,,where did you get the invisible cowbell from at starting at 5:59? One of my old quad players always seemed to forget something {usually the cowbell } and always told me it was invisible,,,,,,which was followed by and EXTREME amount of pushups or shups as we called them when I marched in corps. But seriously Thank you for providing so much content! Your channel should explode to MILLIONS of subs!
1:47 - 1:50 Was that a nod to The Ditty?? It wouldn't be surprising if it was because these were written by Dcott Johnson and played by The Blue Devils no?
Hey I’m thinking about buying tenors do you think you can buy and review the, Sound Percussion Labs Birch Marching Sextets with Carrier 6/6/8/10/12/13, from guitar center. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
