One Piece's Gear 5 debut is followed by the incredibly upbeat Drums of Liberation. The drums symbolize not only Luffy's devil fruit awakening but also Joy Boy's return.
This cover of The Drums of Liberation took me around 60 hours over 4 weeks to make since the premiere of Episode 1070. I listened to music track from the episode and transcribed all the drums parts as best I could and arranged them for my own percussion instruments. I hope you enjoy my video of One Piece "The Drums of Liberation"

Luffy becomes the second Joy Boy, and it's marked by the Drums of Liberation. However, although the Gear 5 debut episode plays the drums for the most part, only Zunesha is able to hear it .When Luffy awakens his devil fruit and transforms into Gear 5, he comments about his heartbeat sounding funny. In fact, there are no drums to speak of. It's only a symbolic term to refer to Luffy's heartbeat, which beats in the same musical rhythm as the drums. Since the sound is unique, Zunesha instantly recognizes it and announces Joy Boy's return.

I just realized the switch from 7/8 to 4/4 is in the beginning and its so cool the way the original composer made that (sorry if my English is bad)
Oh yeahhh that's sick, the first two at the beginning are like 7/8 but then the third one becomes 8/8 then it goes to 4/4
Drums are the oldest, simplest and perhaps most primal of all instruments. They invoke a sense of power, rhythm and vitality. The extensive variety of drums needed to get the correct pitches and tones for The Drums of Liberation is beautiful and inspiring.

Drums are representations of the heart. Drums are the first instruments, and even before them the first music was percussion.
Everytime I hear these drums I get like a primal feeling throughout my body I can’t exactly describe as well as goosebumps lol.

You know I've rewatched those episodes several times now specifically Ep 1068-1072 over n over and listening to someone actually play the instruments makes me appreciate how good that beat is. Always just shrugged it off

The part I like about this number, is that in the story, they talk about how his Gear 5th is his awakened form, and awakening happens when your mind comes into synchronicity with your body. So the fact the drums start all at different parts, making different patterns, but then all coming together by the end, it shows Luffys mind and body are in sync now.
