For anyone having to do this longterm, you might try putting your products in pump bottles. That's so much easier to get out one handed.

    • @alysonknop8395

Pump bottles are essential for me whenever I have hand surgery or for another reason have to be one-handed for a while.

currently have a very new broken dominant arm and was wondering if a pump would be easier or harder so than you for that! my fave gel is in a pump. I feel like wash day seems much more doable than was putting it up. which has been fairly impossible so far. 😭

I couldn't lift both of my arms for months for a neurological disorder...I couldn't even wash my teeth by myself and I lived alone...but I figured it out how to do EVERYTHING! For washing my hair I had to sit on the floor in the shower and put my elbows on my knees and moving my head around because I couldn't move my arms. What a struggle were those months!

Omg felt this one! Broke my dominant (right) arm a few years ago and needed surgery! There was several weeks of washing my hair with a plastic bread bag rubber banded over my injured arm haha! Also learning to do other everyday things like eating and writing(!) was so hard. I also quickly learned contact lenses were overrated haha... I'm also a professional violinist so thankfully my arm recovered and I could play again! But it was definitely a scary and frustrating time!

I had to have shoulder surgery on my dominant arm, washing was easy, trying to put my hair up in a scrunchy was rough lol. I brought the side pony back into style or walked around looking like a fraggle lol. No matter who stopped by i handed them my hair tie so they could fix it for me

    • @alysonknop8395

I had shoulder surgery on my dominant arm about 6 months ago, and frankly everything is still difficult, but that's partly because I didn't have a total joint replacement but need one. The hardest things for me are reaching the back of my hair or the opposite side of my head. Also, I can't plop because I can't reach the back of my head to secure it.

I'm a leftie too and a few years back, I was in a car accident and lost the ability to hold anything on my left hand. I think being a leftie helped me successfully use my right hand (though somewhat cumbersome), because the world is designed for eighties. Lefties always make due. Writing and eating were the worst of it though. Luckily at the time I was still straightening my hair at the salon.

@@AbbyKadabby18 I can imagine! I alternate between sitting down and standing up. I have cp in one hand and one leg so long styling sessions don't bother me as much. Just some soreness in my arm but I'm used to that :p. The only issue I have with scrunching my hair (2a) is that the curl doesn't hold (my hair is quite heavy). I want to try a styling gel/ blow drying with a diffuser, I hope that will work!

      @AbbyKadabby18 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@lisa_x847 Yeah, I have to occasionally do it like courtney does kneeling down, or do it standing up. It's the long diffusing process that hurts the most.
My hair is 2c/3a and it doesn't like to curl unless I use a gel either. Gel, gel casts, and diffusing really help!

Thank you so much for doing this!! The only things I did different were I used the scalp scrubber to spread the shampoo evenly and I used my gel in small increments in order to spread it a little more. I did diffuse twice in that time and the diffusing was exhausting!! Good job on experimenting what it was like!!

I started watching your videos a while back because I’m thinking about doing the curly girl method, I have wavy hair I also have cerebral palsy which affects my left hand so I generally wash my hair with the one hand only and I can style my hair with one and a half hands (because I can hold things with my left hand but I can’t brush or put in the products with it I have to use my right hand that’s why it’s only one and a half hands 😂😂). During my last pregnancy, I had TERRIBLE carpal tunnel syndrome in my dominant hand and my husband was out of the country for a while. I couldn't even grip anything it was so bad! I didnt do much with my hair, or anything else for that matter. I could only get deodorant on one armpit too! 😂 I was a hot mess and nice hair was NOT on the menu.

I broke my elbow a couple years ago and had to do this lol. I had to have my fiance open and dispense my products for me 😜😊 he got good at pulling my hair back in a pony and braiding it for me in the mornings 😊

I’ve injured my right (dominate side) shoulder, lived through radial nerve damage in the right arm throughout 2020, sliced the tip of my middle finger on my right hand off back in 2007, couldn’t use the hand at all during the first weeks of bandaging. And pinched a nerve in my left arm in 2018.
PUMPS. I bought product in pumps. LOL.
And definitely air dried but I already do that.
Not easy. But you were entertaining. 😂

I had carpal tunnel surgery a couple of years ago and just washed and apply leave-in.
I have a question for you: we rented a house with a private pool for the summer (because of COVID-19). How do I deal with being in a pool every day without doing a full wash day? How do I protect my curls from the sun and the chlorine water?

My kids love going to the pool so I try to use a protective style and an oil beforehand. Mizani came out with a silicone free leave in that is a heat and sun protectant. Sun bum has one too😎😁 I think she has a summer video that is helpful and so does Manes by Mel. Good luck!

You could also have turned all the products upside down before application. The brush could have also been used and rinsed in between products. But overall you did a fabulous job!

We definitely need curly hair care for people with disabilities content.

I feel like the bowl method might be useful if you only have use of one hand.

I think I would have used products that have a pump instead of products that need to be squeezed

That Maui product was a disaster for my hair. It left my hair dry and stiff. Threw it out after one use.

I think your right side turned out just a tinsy bit more stretched out than usual, but it's hardly noticeable.
    Great job 👍
