There's two things you are doing wrong. 1. Don't twist clothes when you wringing them out, it stretches them. Squeeze don't twist. 2. What's the point of filling the sink with clean water and soaking them again? That removes most soap but not all. Use an unplugged sink and keep the tap running. Then one by one rinse and squeeze the clothes repeatedly until no more soap comes out. A further tip, use hair dryer carefully to help dry clothes.

Can't because we have a washing machine but the manager said we can't us it because there was a water leakage coming from the bathroom; plumbing here sucks and you can't call a plumber btw. They don't fix anything here; the refrigerator motor is dying (can't wait to leave here). The washing machine here (their machine) in this house costs you almost to $10 bucks a wash and another $7.50 for drying them. So I have a helluva perfect reason for hand washing and air drying my clothes.
Yeah I'm at uni and I'm actually going to take my washing with me every time I go back home, because I don't wanna pay £2.50 to Wah's my clothes + £1.50 to dry them...
I remember watching this video over 2 years ago. I have been washing clothes in my kitchen sink ever since. I dry my clothes by using the towel roll trick and then hang them on the railings on my porch. I also put my shirts on hangers and hang them on my window bars on the side of my house. This really helped me, especially during the pandemic. Thanks again.
As a very busy student and a woman that has to handwash all her daily uniforms, socks, underwears and handkerchiefs, this helped at all although I know how to handwash actually. I've been always struggling with clothes so hard to handwash and so slow to completely dry, especially in a very cold country. This helped me a lot
Everyone in the comments keep listing the reasons why they need to resort to this.... All very good reasons. ....and here I am with dirty work clothes too lazy to walk downstairs and throw them in the washer...
washer broke two days ago but too lazy to drive and wash at a laundromat. all my work clothes r dirty so i have to do this tomorrow morning 😅 think i’ll wash one pair of scrubs a day lol
Really great tips here. I don't have a washing machine, mainly due to expense, so was looking for a way to wash my jeans, towels, socks etc as cheaply as possible. This method cuts out a number of things - expense in buying a washing machine, expense in buying detergents [as you could just use soap, shower gel as long as it smells nice] and you would also be saving on your energy bills in your home too.
I've found that a fan directed at hanging clothes will dry them faster than just hanging them. You may or may not have access to a fan, but if you do, it can help. The fastest I have dried clothes just hanging inside with a fan was about an hour. Of course, it depends on the fabric and how much water you can get out of it before hanging. If traveling by car, it's not hard to toss in a small high-velocity fan.
I dried a shirt of mine under 25 minutes by hanging it infront of a fan, it took this less maybe bcz I've a pretty big stand fan and I live in warmer climate.
We handwash our clothes everyday all year round and hang them out to dry under the sun ☀️ We soak them in buckets after separating plains and coloured. Soak for a few hours than I jump in and stomp the hell out of them with my feet. Some Music playing in the background helps alot🤣🤣🤣 then I pour out the soapy water and repeat with clean water until all soap has been rinsed off. They're now ready to hang on the line under the sun!! Yes, you're welcome🤣🤣
I always hand wash my clothes I not only save money but my clothes don’t get near as ruined by hand washing it literally saves the life of your clothing. If you have a dehumidifier it will dry them really fast!
Keep your knees dry. Stand on the towel. Weight and pressure gets clothes squeezed more effectively and you'd be drier in the process. Highly recommend investing in a super large beach towel. I've got a 5’x5’ one that's a few decades old have had since the military. I fold it to be two foot wide. The towel being folded comes in handy with items that are more difficult to squeeze by hand. Depending on the item for me determines how I fold or roll towel. Great tutorial reminder here. Thank you. My washing machine just tanked today. Not getting another one before work is finished on the house. So, back to hand washing. A couple of other things that help me, I found an antique roller for a bucket mop. Cleaned it up and now use for rolling water out of clothes $25 at a Salvation Army find, compared to almost $200 for a laundry roller brand new. Also, 5 gallon bucket and a $25 hand washing laundry wand from Amazon gives the clothes a good scrub similar to a washer. Exercise isn't bad either 😁 For all you Covid folks, for under $30 you have an instant washer to handle more clothes at once. For a few dollars more put holes in another bucket, one inside the other. Once laundry is done, pull the bucket out and the water drains. Do this in the bathtub. Put the bucket without the holes into the laundry bucket. Step inside to drain all the water out. Then, use the towel method to squeeze the item or use the roller or both. For stains, you can get a washboard to help scrub. Hope this helps

I then do a rinse and I dry them on the roof of van while I drive. I do this in hotels, gyms and even an off-grid property where I shower with a 5 gallon home depot bucket while shallow well water that was warmed by the sun. I keep all my clothes in a giant duffle bag I use as a back rest for a couch I have in the back. I've gone for weeks like this and it just becomes routine.

This video was very helpful and I especially am thankful for the demonstration of how to get the excess water out of the clothing. I'm sure it will be a blessing to others.
Heres a tip to all who wanna dry hand-washed clothes faster. Get a salad spinner and place wrung out clothing inside and spin all excess water out. Will only be able to do one or two smaller piece at a time and some may not fit, just depends. Then, hang on hangers and dry. You could dry even quicker with a strategically placed fan or place a drying rack near a heat duct. When I had a job that was an hour or so away, I placed my damp clothing on hangers and hung them in the back of my minivan with all the windows open. By the time I got to work everything was dry. When I got home all I had to do was taken them in side and hang up. No reason to waste energy on a dryer with the great outdoors to help you out.
A quick way of drying is to hang your clothes in the bathroom and plug in a space heater. Be sure to shut doors and windows to keep the heat from excaping I had to do this when my dryer went out. It works really well when you need to dry clothes.
I do this. I hang a white towel over my towel rack and lay my delicates over them. The rack is above a space heater so it brings the warm air right into the fabric. It is dry in 30 minutes.
@@vessyioannou259 or just use the bath tub , then leave the clothes drying out over it , a lot of bathrooms especially hotels etc have Fans in there anyway and those will often help dry clothes even quicker

I use to do this when I lived on my own because laundry was $10/load. Here was my method. Two storage bins of the exact same size. One that I drilled 1/2 in holes throughout. Fill the non drilled bin with water and soap in the tub or shower. Throw your clothes in. How you scrub is up to you. I would use a clean sock to scrub sensitive areas like underarms and underwear, as well as any stains. You can also just rub the material on each other. Let them sit for 20 minutes and then give it a quick agitation with your hand or a utensil. Then I'd rinse everything and take it outside to my balcony or deck. Transfer everything to the drilled bin. And put the non drilled bin on top. Now either push or step inside the bin to squeeze all the water out. Repeat this process a couple times. Youll have to move the clothes around to get all the excess water out. I'd also ring out the clothes before transfering them to the bin. Then I'd just hang them over my deck or balcony. Secured in place with magnets (metal balcony rail). 🤷♀️ My landlord was an absolute ass asking $10/load and I didn't have a car to get to the only laundry mat in town at the time. Yeah it's a bit more hands on but on a hot day - I could have 4 loads of laundry done in as little as 2 hours including dry time. I now have a house with laundry machines and I sometimes still use this method to save hydro and turning on the air conditioner.
Super useful!! I've started hand-washing my thinner or more delicate clothing since the sink is 100% mine and it's free... Super handy! I'll have to try the towel trick :) I didn't realize you had to led it sit, no wonder my first attempt didn't really work 🤦
I'm going to start doing this because my washing machine is breaking down and I can't really afford a new one right now. Well I could save up but it would take ages and I see no reason to buy another if that will break down too. My old washing machine did last over 11 years though and it was quite cheap too. They cost too much nowadays though.
Ellin Louise Miller Snoxell Can you not have both electric and solar panels? If you're struggling to do your laundry, going to a launderette might help.
Lost my family home of 50 years last May after catastrophic flooding. Had to move into a nightmare apartment on a whim. Water is free here in my county for rentals but our laundry room costs $4 a load. It's an absolute JOKE and these people are scammers. I used to do laundry every single day, multiple loads, and not have to worry about dealing with other people or paying an arm and a leg for it. I've hand washed plenty of times before but just wanted to watch this to feel a little better about my life by watching someone else do this. Hate how long it takes to dry thicker clothes but I'm going to do some hand washing after this. Thank you!
Thank you. My washer went out and once I'm all caught up with my laundry I may just hand wash my stuff. It's very satisfying and relaxing to hand wash my clothes. It makes me feel less dependant on electricity. I'm sure my grandmother must think I'm crazy but I'm sure I would have done just fine growing up when she did. :):):) thx again bunches
i love this, my mom taught me how to do this when in was young especially with my underclothes. she would use joy detergent or a bar of soap. she used the bar of soap that comes in the hotel if we were out of town and needed to do this. joy dish detergent is great though.
I live in an apartment without a washer dryer and ive been using laundromats for years. When im out of underwear and i just need a few to get me to laundry day, i do this method. Thank you so much for your help.
This does work. Exactly how I do it. Did the one bag version of Italy for 3 weeks. Wash one wear one with ex officio underwear, Smartwool/Darn Tough socks. The garments were bone dry in 2-3 hours.
I can afford to wash my clothes at my apartment complex, or laundromat, but each visit costs $6 for wash and dry, for one load. I get dirty at work and I require 2 loads min. per week. Do that math. That money is now going towards savings or more important matters. 👍 good stuff. Don’t let people make you feel poor for wanting to save money. I’d like to see anyone argue against savings.
dude thank you ima 12 years old and my parents are away for the weekend and my mom usally washes my uniform for P.E. but since she's away for the weekend i have to wash it so i needed help all other videos were complicated sorta and this is simple thank you.
I've tried a number of methods and I think this is the best. Here are some things I tried that didn't work out too well; Using the bathtub. Initially this seems like a good idea because it's big enough to fit a lot of clothes. The problem is that it requires a lot of water to cover all the clothes, takes a long time to fill adequately and you have to constantly bend over to work with the clothes, which will tire you out quickly. You actually don't need all that much water. Even larger things can compress down into the sink with no problem. I tried using a commercial mop bucket with a wringer basket to dry the clothes. This does not work all that well. you can wring more water out with your hands. I've seen other systems that try to press the water out and I think they are all probably inadequate.
I got in trouble with my old apartment manager for hand washing and drying without their washers/dryers. (Some things just can't be washed or dried that way.) They just wanted the money obviously. (Their laundry facility was more than twice the price with smaller washers and dryers, than the laundry mat down the road)
When travelling this is really helpful. I find that the sinks in unknown places creep me out a bit so I got one of those frabric pails. It's folds up tiny but can hold about 20L of water. I can use that instead of a sink. And also there are some laundry sheets that can be used instead of liquid detergent. So in theory I can travel with less clothes and wont have to depend on any laundry services...
my washing machine out smarts me sometimes , n gives me a medium sized t- shirt back instead of a large regardless of the water temperature. Ive resorted to washing some things by hand. thats a straight forward tutorial man. happy trecking.
Thanks for this! Currently in a quarantine hotel in Korea and am not allowed to leave the room for 2 weeks, and no washer or dryer in here. Thanks again!
Nah I used to do this as kid because my parents would not do laundry that often and I did not feel comfortable wearing the same clothes for more than 2 days When I was around 10 I started doing my own laundry actually using a washing machine every friday or wheneven I needed it, I did so for another 10 years… Found a partner and their mother minds my clothes in the washer despite paying ass high rent lol (she said that laundry was part of the rent) I don’t have acces to a washing machine so I’m studying at uni, so can’t get my own washer either
If your bathroom has a heat lamp, hang the clothes on the shower rod & on towel bars, leave the heat lamp on, and shut the door for awhile. My Mom (95), taught me the towel roll trick decades ago.❤
I'm going to Costa Rica in a few days and this is going to save me from having to wear sports bras instead of my (only 2) binders for most days (I'll be out of town for like 2 weeks). I'm still bringing the sports bras in case I need them for safety reasons but yay for relieving gender dysphoria :)
To dry them faster in winter I use a box with a hole on the side, big as the hair blower tip. I squeeze them for good and I put them in, five minutes of hot air at low speed and I let them rest as long as the heat remains. I repeat this until they are dried enough to be hanged. This little trick cuts 2/3 of the normal time I would need to dry them off normally. A sidenote: be very careful with the hair blower.
If there are any knitters/crocheters out there, this is really similar to how you can wet block your finished projects, except you'd pin them out rather than hang them. Anyway, thanks - very helpful!
Video was very helpful... Was late so wasn’t able to use the washing machine, and it’s been YEARS since I hand wash... so I don’t remember how to do it and also we don’t have the soap bar I would use... again, this video was VERY helpful, thanks man 😉👍🏻
I used the sink and hotel shampoo soap one time to wash my sweaty underwear and some shirts. It was hot and sweaty that time in D.C. To dry the clothes I stuffed portions of the underwear and shirts into the slots of the airflow output (didn't have laundry clips of course) of the AC/heating system inside my hotel room. It worked so good I in fact washed my blue jean trousers.
Anyone also feel like they hit rock bottom?

Great system! I have a centrifuge to spin my clothes out. They can be found online.
@@velvetbees I do too! I love it. My clothes are dry in a few hours.
This drying method almost made my t-shirt bone dry, holy hell. Wouldn't be as effective with something thicker I reckon.
Super useful!! I've started hand-washing my thinner or more delicate clothing since the sink is 100% mine and it's free... Super handy! I'll have to try the towel trick :)
I didn't realize you had to led it sit, no wonder my first attempt didn't really work 🤦
I do this everyday because I workout 5 days a week and am too poor to buy 5 sets of gym clothes.
Hope ur richer noww

Ay I got the exact same problem bro
I'm going to start doing this because my washing machine is breaking down and I can't really afford a new one right now. Well I could save up but it would take ages and I see no reason to buy another if that will break down too. My old washing machine did last over 11 years though and it was quite cheap too. They cost too much nowadays though.
Suzie E Antrobus same I can't really pay for electric bills so I have solar panels but that doesnt have enough power to cover ALL the bills
Ellin Louise Miller Snoxell Can you not have both electric and solar panels? If you're struggling to do your laundry, going to a launderette might help.
Suzie E Antrobus yep thats what i did I put both together

Thank you!
This is about to be my college go-to! Thanks for the help!
Did it work for you?
Life hack for college students who don’t wanna pay for laundry 🤣🤣 bless up🤝
Debit machine was down in my building and I couldn't put $ on the laundry card and this got me out of a serious jam for work the next day. Thanks!
i love this, my mom taught me how to do this when in was young especially with my underclothes. she would use joy detergent or a bar of soap. she used the bar of soap that comes in the hotel if we were out of town and needed to do this. joy dish detergent is great though.
I live in an apartment without a washer dryer and ive been using laundromats for years. When im out of underwear and i just need a few to get me to laundry day, i do this method. Thank you so much for your help.
Looking this up cause you ain’t gonna catch my ass at no laundry mat with the rona 🤣
This does work. Exactly how I do it. Did the one bag version of Italy for 3 weeks. Wash one wear one with ex officio underwear, Smartwool/Darn Tough socks. The garments were bone dry in 2-3 hours.
Visiting from the days of COVID-19. You're a real one. 🙏🏼
This helped so much,I have 3 hours until a concert and I spilled juice on my clothes and I have washed and dried them and I am ready to go
Watching this because I have a presentation tomorrow and no time to use the washer and dryer lifesaver!!!

This is how I cleaned my clothes before school because I could never figure out how to use the washer on short notice 😂

I've tried a number of methods and I think this is the best. Here are some things I tried that didn't work out too well;
Using the bathtub.
You can do it put your back into it
Hell yea! Thanks, drying trick sounds great - tight on money and don’t have washer or dryer!
About to do some laundry
I got in trouble with my old apartment manager for hand washing and drying without their washers/dryers. (Some things just can't be washed or dried that way.)
They just wanted the money obviously. (Their laundry facility was more than twice the price with smaller washers and dryers, than the laundry mat down the road)
Sadly my washer and dryer are broken and I ran out of ideas on how to clean them. Thank you so much this actually helped.
im here because of COVID-19 and don't want to risk going to the laundromat (this is a good forearm/hand workout as well)
When travelling this is really helpful.
I did this before looking it up on TH-cam. Glad I did it properly lmao: been trapped in a hotel for a month because of corona
Hang in there man! Things will get better.
my washing machine out smarts me sometimes , n gives me a medium sized t- shirt back instead of a large regardless of the water temperature. Ive resorted to washing some things by hand. thats a straight forward tutorial man. happy trecking.
I really feel for y’all without washing machines during the pandemic. I’m lucky enough that I never had to even think about that
can't believe this has a million views but it deserves it
or a joint or whatever
Thanks for this! Currently in a quarantine hotel in Korea and am not allowed to leave the room for 2 weeks, and no washer or dryer in here. Thanks again!
Anyone here in 2023 cuz they don’t wanna spend money
Nah
I used to do this as kid because my parents would not do laundry that often and I did not feel comfortable wearing the same clothes for more than 2 days
When I was around 10 I started doing my own laundry actually using a washing machine every friday or wheneven I needed it, I did so for another 10 years…
Found a partner and their mother minds my clothes in the washer despite paying ass high rent lol (she said that laundry was part of the rent)
I don’t have acces to a washing machine so
I’m studying at uni, so can’t get my own washer either

Did you get a washer yet?
thanks covid-19 - because of you I had to look this video up. Helpful!
If your bathroom has a heat lamp, hang the clothes on the shower rod & on towel bars, leave the heat lamp on, and shut the door for awhile. My Mom (95), taught me the towel roll trick decades ago.❤
This is the coolest thing. So easy and perfect for apartments or traveling, Thanks!
You are my superhero dude. I've been searching for this my whole life. THANK YOU!!!!!
Tell me more about your bras!

That is awesome.
1. Cardboard Box?
2. What are the general guidlines for being careful with hairdrying clothes? (serious)
I live in a student accommodation and have no clue how their washer works so I’ll just wash mine with hands
If there are any knitters/crocheters out there, this is really similar to how you can wet block your finished projects, except you'd pin them out rather than hang them.
Anyway, thanks - very helpful!
you sound like Jesse Eisenberg! thanks for the video!
Where I live I have to paid to use the washing machine and they hardly work so this is very useful.
Thank you
