That's alright mate. All the tradies have been writing off their giant trucks for years. The top real estate agents all register their supercars to the business.
Never seen of heard of James, but watched this. And can relate massively. Business owner, goals, next goals, hit goals and meh. Earn ‘x’ a month, then more ‘x’. Emotionally, it doesn’t change. Lovely home. BUT as you say, never easy to justify or necessarily afford a Porsche, but I jumped into a 991.2 GT3RS a few years ago, and every time I got into it, it makes me HAPPY! EVERYTIME. I’m now a proud owner of a 992 GT3RS! 7,000 miles in, several Track days later, EVERY mile, EVERY second I get into this car, it’s JOY & HAPPINESS!! Great great video!!!!
Congrats James. A manual GT3 is peak Porsche - especially a 992. Well done!!! I recently bought a 992 Targa 4S and I love it too. I came super close to exactly what you got. It makes me happy seeing you love it. So good!
I’ve watched your content for a while now James and love your no nonsense approach to all things training. I’m also a car nut myself and seeing people like yourself making it happen is thoroughly inspiring, those that get jealous have so much to learn and less and less time with every jealous comment they make - glad you didn’t stop yourself from showing your followers what you’ve achieved in a humble way dude, honestly so happy for you as are so many others!
Another thing to add in; If cars are your thing and you can treat yourself to what you want, do it. Loved cars my whole life, then developed epilepsy last year and now cant drive. My drive for success went because my goals were now unachievable. Do the thing.
This hit hard reading this man, so easy to wait till “the right time” only for something to take away the chance, hope you can find something in time that gives you just as much joy. 🫂
Yes James! Also bought a manual GT3 this year and have a fast estate (C63 AMG) from running an online fitness business. They both make me happy every time I see them, let alone drive them. It’s not about showing off it’s about enjoying the driving experience and engineering!
I love this. I recently got a 2016 Audi RS3. Not my total dream car, but it’s definitely close. I’m totally in love with it. The sound is totally worth it!
Nothing like the understated performance and dynamics of a 911, even the base model. Congratulations James, I took the plunge myself several years ago, never regretted it - the faster you go, the more it plants itself down. Enjoy!
Good for you James! I've spent a long time in the car business encouraging people to live their dreams. The GT3 I had in 2013 was an experience I'll never forget! Do it all if you can!
I’ve been earning very well for about 10 years now. Got it all. Big 1.5mil house, bar, gym etc etc. I’ve held out on the supercar as I thought the idea of it might be better than the ownership, and that I’d be used to it and it’d become normal too quickly. This video has just convinced me to pull the trigger on that V10 R8 I’ve always yearned after 😂
A manual GT3, thank god. In terms of cars - totally agree with you. People misunderstand. I have 2 nice cars and they are not about prestige, status etc, I couldn't care less. The issue is experience not objects - a car isn't an object to a car guy, it is a means to an experience. It is a way to make going to the shops to get a pint of milk an uplifting experience that changes your day. It is a way to make going anywhere special. Cars enable experience. And they are the most assessible way to experience high end engineering in your life. I've had people who are certain they are indifferent to cars drive mine and 200m down the road, they are having an epiphany. Saying, "I get it, i finally get i, I had no idea" - I'm talking women too. Everyone gets it. So, I applaud you, and I get it, and thank god again, you got the manual.
@michaelwu9135 Something very humble - I'm just an ordinary wage earner so had to find practical ways to find something I could afford to buy, afford to run, and afford to modify - it's a 370Z. Despite all the haters out there it's probably the most underrated car an average guy can afford, but overlooks. The steering is pin sharp, which was important to me because it's not something you can really modify. I'm a middle aged man so I didn't make any changes that ruin the car - just things that deal with the finer points. So think, lighter two piece rotors, a mid weight flywheel, torsen LSD and lowered final drive ratio (well, higher numerial ratio), a moderate exhaust, and tune. Probably some other stuff I can't remember. End result is it drives as if it's completely factory, so noise/vibration/harshness all sweet, I can use it anywhere any time, nothing breaks, but it just has this real edge in terms of engineering, responsiveness (low rotational inertia, less unsprung mass etc) - it's just lovely, and well resolved - not too much in any one dimension. If you got out of a GT3 you'd probably criticise it. If you jump in and you aren't a car person, it's genuinely an epiphany, good enough to change minds of hardened "cars are just an appliance" people. And even car people with very decent machinery come out of it really taken with it. Anyways, hope that's interesting - do you drive anything particular yourself, or aim to?
Absolutely right idea going for the manual. Pure driving. Next time you're back in the UK hit me up and I'll let you take my Caterham 270r race car on track...!!!
You have just made me to decide to keep my m3. When you said about starting up the engine and having the feeling of this is worth working for I can 1000% relate to. Thanks for the vid
Congrats mate. I dreamt of a Porsche since I was a young fella. Bought my first (a 986.2 Boxster) nearly 8 years ago. I am now onto my second a 997S. Cracking cars. Enjoy it.
I mean this is it, not everyone is wired to appreciate cars but for those of us that do, having a car that you enjoy driving to the extent you look forward to it is a real difference maker. I have a manual M240i with the chassis modified to club sport spec. A very attainable car for most, and yet every time I climb into it I just feel so appreciative to have it, elevates every journey and therefore every day that I need to use it. It also motivates me to continue working hard so that in future I might have a car that I enjoy driving even more.
I’ve made some money and done the car thing. That I made it’ moment in my mid thirties. I was even in a position to buy in cash, the sense of being able to walk into a dealership, holding all the cards, not relying on their finance to bolster what you can’t actually afford.. it was powerful. It was well north of £150k. That ‘yes!’ feeling lasted a few weeks. You have to find what gives you that consistently and for most entrepreneurs it’s evolving business and their position. It then becomes family, if you start your own. Then.. and I’ll sound a bit Dave Ramsey here.. it is being generous. What does he say ‘live like nobody else now, so that later, you can live - and give - like nobody else’. I’m not religious, but I agree with the majority of that sentiment - share your success in whatever ways you can with those who may need it, or exposure to it, the most. I feel you’re doing a good job so far James.
The best way I can explain owning a gt3 it’s the one car that blows your expectations away everyday. Never gets old. You enjoy it everyday even if it’s just taking to the store in back. So worth it.
James this is expiring man. As a 14-year experienced Personal Trainer who LOVES cars, and I've witnessed you grow on Instagram and then TH-cam and everything - it's amazing. Not many Personal Trainers have gotten where you are. Your brand is impressive. It's exactly what i'm working for. I remember when I had my first 6-figure year in 2017...I paid off all of my debts and then went out and bought my a 1-year pre-owned Audi A4 - it was an amazing solid car, had it for 5 years until I quit the gym and started my online business, sold the car, and moved to Miami. The VISA situation didn't work out, and now i'm living in South America without a car. I miss driving every day. This is lighting a fire under my ass.
Totally agree with you on almost “fake it til you make it”… Experience something so you can visualise having it permanently and you’ll find a way. I’ve done it my whole life, taking something for a test drive or made enquiries about something I can’t afford at the time, and while sometimes scary it’s almost always paid off. Anyway… It’s a magical machine and soon a manual box with a naturally aspirated engine will be a thing of the past… So you’ve got to do it while you can! You won’t lose money on it either… Unless you ditch it, so it’s not even a dumb reckless purchase. Sounds f**king crazy but it’s not actually ridiculously priced either. Enjoy the fruits of your labour, Sir, and have zero shame.
1) I too am a car enthusiast/lover (Bias) 2) Driving is an activity, ergo an EXPERIENCE (this is important distinction) 3) The sheer amount of engineering involved with a car is nothing less than "wizardry", especially at the upper levels such as this Porsche So though cars could be considered douchey, etc and part of a capatialistic, materialistic goal (Hedonic treadmill/Maslov), I would argue that intrinsically a car is not as such. It is an experience machine that keeps you on the edge and changes with you, your abilities, your senses, your courage, your concern etc The car is like an exoskeloton to me, it enables me to move and do things in a way I want on the road. And I respect some don't give a crap about cars. But you put anyone in a car with significant power, sound or cornering ability, and unless they have a broom up somewhere, they are going to smile, illicit a visceral bodily reaction. An expensive car ≠ frivolous, vacuous items (fashion brands etc) But to be cliche, it all is summed up by one of my favourite lines "The mind can make a heaven of hell, and a hell of heaven" ... so just live your life and not worry about others opinions when it comes to your own states of happiness or more importantly giving you meaning. May all your failures and successes create the way you will never find, only feel and come to be.
Congrats, 992 w/6MT is my dream. So jealous but stoked for you. RS no manual option, you made the right choice. RS yeah you have to have the money but that car makes more sense if your main reason for buying the car is to track it.
Congratulations. Massive respect for getting the manual - you won’t regret it. Who cares about a few tenths when you’re slamming rev matched downshifts yourself.
exactly, the flops who say "aww but the auto is faster", yeah cause the split second gear change going to woolies is gonna matter more then my enjoyment of driving
I get it 100%, I love cars, love watching Mat Armstrong. I have my own business and recenlty got a new M3 Comp through the buisness. At first felt embarrased when I ordered it, but now, when I start that car up I feel content, the sound of it makes me so happy
I bought a DC2 Honda Integra Type R, about 10 years ago, that redlined at just under 9000RPM and sounded beautiful on VTEC. I know it isn't a 911 GT3 but I adored the sound that made in tunnels and only cost me £6000 at the time. Loved that car! So totally agree that you should treat yourself. Life is short. =)
I've never had someone other than Jeremy Clarkson put into words exactly my relationship with cars before. Very frustrating trying to explain this emotion to those who JUST DON'T GET IT. Thank you, James Smith.
I have a 4.2 V8 Jag XF 2008. It makes me happy and was my first car after driving vans. Everyone should have a V8 at some point. Good luck all in pursuing your dreams 👍
"Smiles per Miles" ☺ Had one of the first Impreza Turbos in the UK, in 1997, and hear your buzz on owning a car that makes you feel great and motivates you 💯
Watching you drive my dream car since I was like 10 years old and presented in the way you did was just super inspiring! This was the best Top Gear episode I’ve seen to date haha Also TH-cam knows exactly what it’s doing sharing one of your videos about how Sean Casey made multiple millions as a 23 year old… which may be appropriate in helping acquire said dream car 😂
Your words ring true with me. RS6 was my dream car. I finally made it in life at 44 years old. I've been through 3 of them now. But for me I just felt meh after my purchases. Yes it made me happy to drive but it's just not what I expected out of the experience. Life is truly fickle, we aspire to be something and once we reach that pinnacle we set new ones and the chase continues. Same with material possessions, the chase is mostly more fun that actually owning it. So in short, I live for the chase, now. I too dialed down my watch collection to an understated Rolly and a Garmin Fenix for exercise. I roll around in a pickup truck. BUT FUCK ME I WANT A GT3 lol
Look at this guy now. If I HAD his kinda money, i would have spent it on more important things like Just f*ckin with ya mate. Congratulations 💪 it has honesty changed my perspective, seeing you killing it so close to home (South Brisbane area).
I got some bad news, cars are also on the hedonic treadmill. I completely agree that cars are the best thing to waste your money on. But wait until you decide that the GT3 is a bit too extreme for a Tesco run, so you want something comfortable and are now looking at Bentley Bentaygas for sale. Then you'll start watching reviews on Mclarens and think you might want to try one of those, but they're £50k more for a good one. Maybe you'll want to try a V12 and on and on. My best advice for anyone reading this who may be slipping on to the hedonic treadmill for cars is to fall in love with the cheap ones, the cars you can buy and sell for close to what you bought them for. Buy an MX5, an old Porsche Boxster, a big ol' Jag. If they were good enough for people to aspire to own them in the 90s then they're still the same car and will give you the same thrills. The challenge now is to find places to go and use the car, the experiences the car enables you to do is where the pleasure comes from. Enjoy the car and up the good work lad.
Never heard it called the hedonic treadmill, but that is a good term for it. If you can't be happy now in the moment you won't be happy no matter what achievement milestones you reach. The ironic, counterintuitive thing is that when you learn to be happy in the now, the achievements actually come easier.
Even after a proper shit day, having a car you love can still send you to be with a smile on your face! Turns bad days into good, and motivates you to push even more - priceless. Enjoy it James, serious pinch yourself moment, and many smiles to come!
The 9000 rpm 6 cylinder that porsche make is probably the best engine ever... Its also absolutely mental how hard is it to actually convince Porsche to sell you one :D
This might of been that 1 title on the planet that didn't need explanation. Obviously you have to buy a gt3! Greatest car in the planet 😂 Mats content is so so good!!
This resounds so much with me, worked and saved hard to be in a position to buy a supercar but now I’m in the position to I don’t know if I’ll ever pull the trigger! Have guilt spending so much on a toy etc!
Honestly I envy people who are happy with what they have. I had a 3 door s3 and loved it but got bored and bought an rs3 then got bored and just bought a 15 year old shitter a3 as I could see where that was heading.. I miss the 3 door s3 and I don't miss the rs3 at all...whereas I know people who still run a 330ci from new and are still completely happy with it
Nice. Well done James. Porsche. The best. Jealous but happy for you. You'll have to go to the track, because being in Australia it'll be stuck doing 60kph on the road it's whole life.
I was umming and arring about being sensible and saving more, buying something more economical and just putting the extra cash into an index, but after watching this it just secured my vision that I need an RS6... So that is what I am going to do haha... probably go up in value anyway as soon as audi switch to electric only in 2030 - or at least that's what I'll choose to tell myself in order to justify the decision.
Congratulations brother, Loved this video. Ive touched my future, so I can relate to a lot of what you said in this video although I’m nowhere near Porsche 911 level yet🤣 But I will be! 💪
“Conditional Happiness” - I’ll be happy if / when … then you get there, you aren’t happy, so you set the next condition, not happy, next condition.. repeat.
Dear ATO. This is clearly being used for business. Therefore I will be expensing the entire things thank you.
That's alright mate. All the tradies have been writing off their giant trucks for years.
The top real estate agents all register their supercars to the business.
With the luxury car tax in Australia, This is the only way
Just don’t use Jimmy Carr’s accountant and you’ll be fine.
😂😂😂
Is the benefit in kind tax you need to pay personally not a killer even through the purchase and running costs are through your LTD

Happy for you mate. Rs6 and gt3 is such a beautiful combo, life goals right there. One day I will have them both too, that's a promise (to myself).
For what is worth.. you should do more videos like this. Breaks the pattern and helps beyond business needs. Well done mate!
Love seeing you win! 🔥 Keep moving forward! Big love from Bracknell 👊
I’ve been earning very well for about 10 years now. Got it all. Big 1.5mil house, bar, gym etc etc. I’ve held out on the supercar as I thought the idea of it might be better than the ownership, and that I’d be used to it and it’d become normal too quickly.

@michaelwu9135 Something very humble - I'm just an ordinary wage earner so had to find practical ways to find something I could afford to buy, afford to run, and afford to modify - it's a 370Z. Hey James, just wanted to say I really appreciate your frankness!

I too dialed down my watch collection to an understated Rolly and a Garmin Fenix for exercise. I roll around in a pickup truck. BUT FUCK ME I WANT A GT3 lol
I was waiting for this. You seemed quite smitten by this new car. I can see why!! Verrrryy nice whip 😎
Have never seen a video before of you… have to say great content, well said everything about success!
Cars are just absolutely it james with you on that!
Splurged on a holiday to do 7 laps on a track in a 991 GT3 RS. One of the best things I’ve ever done.
Take it to a track and do a video. Please.
Get some seat time with a professional driver 😉
I treated myself to a manual bmw 550i e60 after my first year of business! Go you dude. 👍
Reminds me of a fantastic book, die with zero, great read
Spot on. Great video as always. Well deserved.
Look at this guy now. If I HAD his kinda money, i would have spent it on more important things like
Just f*ckin with ya mate. Congratulations 💪 it has honesty changed my perspective, seeing you killing it so close to home (South Brisbane area).
Unreal mate, fully inspired, you make it relatable and how to get to that level tangible 👌
Alan Partridge energy
Congrats. Motivates me even more to get my online pt biz up and running. Cheers.
Touching your future. Pure thoughts
Good shout James. You’ve sold me on the Porsche. I’m going to buy one
Hell yeah. Can’t wait to come back to this comment when get myself a 911 in years to come.
Sick job James.
GOALS, LOOKS AWESOME!
100 percent agree. Enjoy it 🤘🏁
Going from orangatang wheels to gt3 wheels is a wild story to witness 😂 can’t wait to get the mentorship soon 💯
Well done James, good to see! Got my eyes on a 911 turbo, I just need to make it happen 😎
Already loved you, now find out your into cars, what a boss 🤗🤗
Even after a proper shit day, having a car you love can still send you to be with a smile on your face! Turns bad days into good, and motivates you to push even more - priceless.
Enjoy it James, serious pinch yourself moment, and many smiles to come!
You've worked hard and deserve it. Nice one 😁
The 9000 rpm 6 cylinder that porsche make is probably the best engine ever... Its also absolutely mental how hard is it to actually convince Porsche to sell you one :D
This might of been that 1 title on the planet that didn't need explanation. Obviously you have to buy a gt3! Greatest car in the planet 😂
Mats content is so so good!!
Very interesting perspective. "These things are worth working for".
Congrats James
Great video well done totally agree with everything that you said.
I miss the 3 door s3 and I don't miss the rs3 at all...whereas I know people who still run a 330ci from new and are still completely happy with it
Congratulations, insane car :D
Nice. Well done James. Porsche. The best. Jealous but happy for you. You'll have to go to the track, because being in Australia it'll be stuck doing 60kph on the road it's whole life.
“Smiles per miles” love that
I have a relationship with my Toyota Corolla GR Sport
She’s effortless
Nothing on a GT3, I’m sure 😁
I was umming and arring about being sensible and saving more, buying something more economical and just putting the extra cash into an index, but after watching this it just secured my vision that I need an RS6... So that is what I am going to do haha... probably go up in value anyway as soon as audi switch to electric only in 2030 - or at least that's what I'll choose to tell myself in order to justify the decision.
On point! Exactly the reason I bought RS3 8Y. To remind myself why I push hard to meet my goals. 911 is on my list tho 😅
Congratulations brother, Loved this video. Ive touched my future, so I can relate to a lot of what you said in this video although I’m nowhere near Porsche 911 level yet🤣 But I will be! 💪
I knew when you used to say a golf r is all you need you were in denial 😂. Well done.
Love the journey...
Congrats bro. My dream car too 🤝
Bro why you so close to the steering wheel. Great video😅
I've just purchased a 2024 911 GTS and it's amazinggggg
Absolutely inspired, mate, I will have a Porsche.
You deserve it James
Lets go big dog fully deserved!! When drift??
That is the difference between the virtual versus real world, tangible.
Are you in Sydney? Let's do a drive day. I only have a 992 Carerra S but looking for entrepreneurs to drive with.
May go eastern creek track take it out for a spin
We could be brothers. Lol. Manual all day baby, better for engagement but obviously slower than pdk! 😂
“Conditional Happiness” - I’ll be happy if / when … then you get there, you aren’t happy, so you set the next condition, not happy, next condition.. repeat.
Manual! Well done and good on ya!
