It can also be foresight for the cyclops. It couldn't fight back but when Athena told him to finish it he let his humanity kick in and said no which was a stab to the will of the gods since he forgets she is a god. Zeus didn't participate in this at all. He was neutral during the Trojan War and he didn't allow the other gods participate either. They did in secret and after Aphrodite was injured by Diomedes, Zeus made them all retire from the war.

Edit: clicked too early LOL. Here is the rest:
Neo took after his father, and in some sources was said to be hella brutal of a killer, killing at least 5 big names in the war and rumored to be ruthless. But there are some sources where he carries out killing someone, making sure to kill them painlessly.

I think it depends on how you raise the kid. The Gods will tell him, well than I tell him myself you dumbass. I will love and cherish him and tell him that I chose to raise him instead of giving in to a god's will. That I love him and that I'm sorry that his biological parents had been in a war with us and how desperate every soldier is to protect their home. That I see him as my son even if he had different parent.
If he was raised by love why should he avenge a father he can't even remember? Hell, I'll raise him to chose for himself and not because some gods tell him something he already knows
I raise my middlefinger to Zeus because he clearly has no understanding how LOVE works. The man who sleeps with every beautiful woman regardless how she feels can 't tell me that the way of raising a child of love can make an enemy
Love, information, no secrets and just symphaty are the keys.
And to be fair, for the gods it will be a bad tale but for humans? I would live for that.
But well Odysseus tried at least with the idea but didn't believe enough in it.
PS: "The blood on your hands is something you won't lose. All you can choose is whose" Zeus, I bleed every month with pain don't come me with this info. Because Iwill chose yours. And throw a party with Hades for trying lol

Then during this depicted sack of Troy he dragged Cassandra away from where she clung to the statue of Athena in the temple, and SA'd her. This enraged Athena, who caused many of their ships to sink on the way home and ultimately hit him with a lightning bolt.

Might be completely off the mark, but was Odysseus removing his helmet in front of Astyanax intended as a parallel to Iliad book 6? Hector removes his helmet in front of Astyanax, both because it’s scares him and to symbolise Hector’s duality: there is Hector the warrior and Hector the family man. In having Odysseus do the same, alongside the lyrics that emphasise his paternal instincts, it could be read as a deliberate comparison of the two. This idea is kind of furthered by Odysseus’ motivation for killing Astyanax: to protect his family, which was Hector’s entire motivation for fighting in the Iliad. There is also the brilliant irony of Odysseus ending what Hector fought so hard to save in order to protect his own wife and son.
I think all this proves is that Classics A Level morphed my brain and the damage is permanent

What's interesting about the song and prophecy is that Ancient Greeks believed one cannot prevent fate. Meaning that Odysseus can't change what will happen to him...
But also like the Ancient Greeks they would argue different meanings of the stories. Hence why Library Alexandria had a ton of commentary of the meaning Illiad.
Since we don't know what happens after Odysseus gets home... We may not know which version of Odysseus action will be in indulging or turning away, because this is the Musical interpretation of the story. And things often have been reframed. But that's my two cents.

I was more pointing out the story changes with each new author. Story beats stay the same but some myths (and plays) change wildly. I know in the next song, to me at least, it is unclear if he goes through with it or not. And we might not know unless its performed on stage, or kept vague for interpretation.

You were able to breathe so much character and epth into Odysseus, alongside the phenomenal song. Odysseus has always been my favorite Greek hero, and you've only cemented that. I wouldn't say it's a problem per say, but a lot of Greek myths rarely really went into the psychology of the characters. We never see how the war effected Odysseus, or how the loss of his men did, but this depicts him as a genuine intelligent, promising man corrupted and led astray by the whims of selfish, destructive gods and their petty disputes.

Diomedes was such an absolute legend, nearly killed Aphrodite son by throwing a boulder at him and ever attacked Aphrodite herself when she came to rescue her boy.

the detail!!! the way you drew Zeus and how you portrayed him!! and UGH THE WAY ODYSSEUS WAS DRAWN like he was mentally ready until he realized “Oh it’s an infant!! no harm!!” And then the DREAD ON HIS FACE

Dang, moments like this remind me that Zeus was not a very just or kind figure. Someone once told me that there was something in Homer’s works that indicated Zeus wanted the Trojan War to happen to…basically clear the board of demigod heroes, mainly those descended from him, for fear of them overthrowing him in a repeat of the Titanomachy.
So him not only pointing Odysseus’ fear and paranoia at an innocent child, but making it clear that he’d make sure that child turned into a threat even if Odysseus did his best to avoid that, seems entirely in character for any version of him that isn’t made family friendly.

I love how when it says, “The blood on your hands is something you won’t lose, all you can choose is whose.” It’s implying no matter what someone is dying, either the infant or everyone he loves.

Breakdown of the other characters in this song. Because why not?
0:35 Diomedes is one of the great Greek heroes of the Trogan war. Like Odysseus, he's one of Athena's most favored warriors. He lead the inital Greek attack in the Illiad. Which was initially quite sucessfull. He even managed to injure Aries and Aphrodite with Athena's help. But he was shot in the foot by Paris and had to withdraw from the fighting for a while after that.
0:37 Agamemnon leader of the Greek army. He's a bit of cunt is responsible for most of the problems the Greek army faces in the Illiad. But he does go through some serious character development in the Illiad and becomes a lot more humble, brave, and selfless. He starts fighting on the front lines, listening to others, ect. To little to late though because his wife stabs him to death when he gets home. Turns out going through character development 10 years later doesn't give you a free pass to sacrifice your daughter.
0:40 Menelaus is Hellen's original husband. They get remarried after the war and pretty much live happily ever after.
0:43 Tucer is probably the greatest archer on the Greek side. "Ajax the Greater" and "Ajax the Lessor" are his brothers. His older brother "Ajax the Greater" tragically killed himself in the war. And his father refused to let him return home after the war for failing to retrieve his body.
0:45 Ajax is not a kid or particularly small. He's called "little Ajax" here because he's Ajax the lessor. While is older brother (RIP) is Ajax the greater. The two Ajax brothers were essentially the Greek army's reserve. Responsible for defending retreats, counter attacking and defending the ships. Super important job. That's likely what "hold back" is a refernce to. The Ajax's essentially watching the Greek army's back.
Lesser Ajax went on to piss off almost every god. And after her survived his first smiting. He then went on to boast about how not even the gods could kill him. Making him get smited for a second time. Turns out they could kill him.
0:48 Nester is a old dude who loves going on long winded expositions about how great he use to be. To anyone who will listen.
0:50 Neo is Alchillies son. Known for being a bit of a pychopath. He gets murdered some years after the Trogan war.

Another moment that just makes this more of a gutpunch is if you know *why* Odysseus is here in the first place.
It is... Kinda his own fault, as during the original marriage of Hellen, he was the one who suggested the vow that if someone basically went against this marriage every other suitor would have to go to war to get her back to her husband (he did this to Hellen's father so that Odysseus could get an in on Penelope). However... He tried to dodge the vow. He pretended to be insane. I think it was something like sowing salt in an already barren field. Agememnon responds by threatening Telemecus, which has Odysseus drop the act and gets him forced into this war.
*He's here because someone threatened his infant son*.
And as we do get a nice visual from gigi... Even if intellectually he knows that Telemecus is now a boy of about eleven or twelve, the last time he saw him, held him, knew him was *as an infant*.

This is amazing! I especially love the moment at 1:45 - I've always wondered what might happen in that scene and this is just the perfect explanation! Also how Odysseus is led to the infant's room by Zeus is such an interesting approach, I have not seen that in any other animatic to this song yet. It is very well made!

you included an ARC SHOT in this! that is my favorite camera technique be cuase it has so many different meanings depending on how you do it! the way you did it here, 3:16, successfully conveyed the desperation of Odyssyus, pleading, begging, and searching for another way that this could end. Well done!!

3:35 Ody, he's not making you do anything, he is telling you what will happen, now if you want your wife to live then no really you HAVE to kill him, but Prince Hector's fate is in your hands, not any of the gods. Zeus is just....politely persuading....

Amazing animatic as always! You are so good at portraying feeling in all of your art. I love how smooth all the tramsitions were for the whole "giving the roles" thing (Agamemnon will flank the guards part). The part where Odyseous is pleading with Zeus is just- chef's kiss.
Your animatics always make me love the songs way more than I would if I had only listened to the audio. The art/visuals you do always add so much life and emotion into the song!

I think this moment decided the rest of the journey back to Ithaca, this here was Odysseus choosing ruthlessness, to prioritize his survival before anything else, and the rest of the quest was the remarking and consequences of this display: The Cyclops, Aeolus, Circe, Poseidon, every time he tried to choose mercy he was punished because he had already sold his soul, he didn't commit to his decision and that's why fate kept him from reaching home until he developed the resolve equivalent to commiting an act of monstruosity, he kept insisting on how unchanged he was, on his purity and perfection, and for that, and only after accepting his actions, he came back to Ithaca a failure.
