and probably also because he can’t physically handle being the one to take the kids life - the guilt would be immeasurable, seeing the bloodied baby and knowing that it was by his hand. at least by dropping him, he can look away, and he doesn’t have to *see* the death on his hands - he can avoid it. even if the guilt will never leave him, he doesn’t have to live with the memory of the babies cries as he tears it apart, and the look of his bloodied hands.

The detail that Ody took his helmet off because the baby, Astynanax (definitely didn’t spell that right), is afraid of battle helmets according to mythology. Ouch.
Ngl I like the tree representation, like planting seeds, while insignificant at the start it eventually grows. A quote comes to mind. “The more you do something the easier it becomes”
I think the tree growing from the crib references Penelope and Odysseus’ bed, which have an olive tree. Fun fact about this! When Odysseus came back to Ithaca, Penelope didn’t believe that it was him so she said she moved the bed, Odysseus went on to go on a rant in incredulity on HOW she moved it because it was literally connected to an olive tree, search it up, it’s true

Also the confirmation that he dropped the baby?? I’m assuming that’s new but whew it’s so good
The Ody/Zeus duet sounds better cause you can actually hear Zeus this time, I had to get captions and a lyric website to find out what he was saying but now you can hear him loud and clear

@@HallowandNeya yeah, In mythology, part of Roman Legends: "Aeneas saw the head of Hector's boy, Astyanax, smashed against the wall." In the Dictionary of myths and cultural traditions it is written under Astyanax: "Son of Hector and Andromache, after the capture of Troy, thrown from the city walls by Odysseus or Neoptolemus, so that the royal dynasty could not be reborn." So it really depends where you read
@@AnnabethLaufeyson kinda weird to point to Roman mythology. the story is specifically based on Homers Odyssey which of course was made way before the Romans co opted Troy had their 'origin'. also if you wanted to talk about different people killing Astyanax the more common telling is of Neoptolemus son of Achilles in blind rage for the Trojans killing his father either agreeing to do it or doing it himself

I very much like the start of the song. It captures the story in an epic tone that I don't think anyone has been able to capture in any discussion, capturing that awesome military move. And then it flawlessly transitions into the tragedy. And the rough, terrible choices the ancients had to make.
I was randomly shown your original video for The Horse & The Infant by the *algorithm* like 8 months ago, having never heard of Epic before, immediately loved it, and now I have a full blown obsession. I blame you entirely, you beautiful art wizard :)
My favorite little detail in this song is _how_ Zeus gives Ody this vision. Any time Athena enters Odysseus's mind, she announces herself before they enter that mindscape. (Ex. "Have ypu forgotten the lessons I taught you?" "Athena!" Then you hear the ticking showing theyve entered Odys mind). But here, Odysseus expresses pain and then is like _wtf where am i?_ before Zeus announces himself. Zeus is a king and a rapist and he does not ask permission, so he did not ask permission before entering Odys mind. I love that Jorge shows us, the audience, Zeus personality even with small moments like this.
This! I love the details put into Zeus and the other gods. Stuff like that is also why a big party of me believes that if Odysseus had disobeyed it 100% would have turned out how Zeus told him it would. Not because it was a preordained thing, but because Zeus (being who he is) would have MADE SURE. As a punishment for disobedience.
This is such a niche thing to say but, I loved your 'Mystery of Love' animation about the song of Achilles. Then coming into the EPIC fandom and watching you animate Neo - Achilles' son, looking so much like him, Im not kidding, it LITERALLY KILLED MY HEART. You're so talented and amazing with your art. Every small detail and focus you have tying in stories and characters effortlessly is impressive. You probably get this all the time but you're a profound artist!

... My god. Odysseus' micro-expressions... I can't help but admire your dedication, bow humbly, and follow every job you do in the future. As a mythology enthusiast, I can only tell you that you have taken this animation to a level of PERFECTION
I just noticed when Odysseus was singing "even after the the years away from what I've known" I think there was a viola! I like the small changes you added. But the hand at the end! You didn't have to do that 😭
seeing one of the first animations, and seeing how much they've changed for the better is honestly amazing, i found you when you did done for, and decided to binge all of these, came back to it a bit later (now) to re-watch them and this was... whiplash, to say the least. You're amazing, GiGi!
All i gotta say is F*** the gods! Zeus saying they'll make sure that baby would know his lineage so he would grow up to be someone seeking vengeance against Odysseus. This is all they're fault! Dang these songs and the visuals are so powerful and I'm excited for the next album.
Just a Man is a song that will forever have that place in my heart. You did a wonderful job with the animation, it's the best I've come across! The emotions are conveyed so well, I don't think they could've been done better.
This was amazing, I really like how you were able to morph the tree into a skull. Also the last scene with just showing the hand letting go in the darkness was really powerful. Everything about this was great!
"Well I sure hope this is the last time Zeus makes me make a difficult choice involving killing someone" Odysseus probably.

I just love how you can *feel* all the emotions, a rollercoster of feelings
The detail that Ody took his helmet off because the baby, Astynanax (definitely didn’t spell that right), is afraid of battle helmets according to mythology. Ouch.
This just confirms to me what I already knew: I NEED ALL SONGS ANIMATED BY GIGI!!!
GIGI!!!! PLEASE GIVE US ALL SONGS!!! AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!!

@@dogebrando8902 oh that’s actually pretty cool

even for some skilled craftsman-unless a god

would find it easy to prise it up and shift it, no,

Thank you for releasing the animatics with the new audio! I love your animatics so so much, and really appreciate that you're making the extra effort to support Jay as best you can! Keep up the fantastic work, can't wait to see what else you do in the future!
That's what I'm saying!
The seamless transition works so well here, probably since it’s basically the entire Troy part of the Troy saga, so it feels like a full episode. Also I can’t put my finger on exactly why but the Ody/Zeus duet section in the newer version sounds so much better (same with the buildup of “when does a ripple become a tidal wave,” thanks to that instrumental buildup). Also the confirmation that he dropped the baby?? I’m assuming that’s new but whew it’s so good
The baby being dropped was always a part of epic Canon, but it wasn't in the old animatic for just a man
@@doggo-bn4vg I should have clarified what I meant, I was just talking about the old Gigi animatic
The Ody/Zeus duet sounds better cause you can actually hear Zeus this time, I had to get captions and a lyric website to find out what he was saying but now you can hear him loud and clear
imo the part from "Please dont make me do this.." sounds a lot more rushed in the newer version. im not sure if my brain is just playing tricks on me
@@ajeeeezz i suppose it is done to show how desperate Ody is
0:46 Anybody else get a hollow feeling in their soul knowing the little Ajax, whose always portrayed as a child in the animatics, is gonna be dead?
Ooh, we love to see the support for the new versions! The way Jorge sings “Use that well of pride” in this version owns my heart 😍
OH MY GOSH wait a second, isn't that a line Antinous uses in Hold Them Down????
@@naiyadyani2466 Not exact, but… probably meant to parallel this. Wow, I honestly didn’t even think of that!
@@YouveBeenMeggedand there’s Thunder Bringer with Zeus and pride being a damsel
To be honest whenever I think about Epic the musical in general your Odyssues and characters immediately pops up in my head, and whenever I talk to someone about it I immediately tell them to watch your videos, your work is always gorgeous and I'm waiting on fire for both Scylla and Mutiny ❤
“Little Ajax will stay back.” I love how he called him little Ajax because in the Trojan war he was only about 17 at the time and probably the youngest on the horse at the time. Also I love how Jorge made sure to name names of the actual people who were there and what they did. I just love that little detail😭❤
I think it's just to contrast him with Ajax the Greater
He’s known as Ajax the lesser and I think neo is the youngest
Imagine being a Trojan and the giant wooden horse brought into the city starts singing.
I like the difference between Odysseus in the Trojan War and Odysseus on his way home, who btw didn't seem to get a haircut when he set sail lol. And thank you for making this! So surprising for me to see Just A Man before Scylla. Can’t wait to see more animations from you, they’re just awesome.
Zeus really said “oh you’ll make sure his past is never known? Ima snitch”
"The blood on your hands is something you won't lose, all you can choose is whose" and the way it is sung gives me CHILLS
Good job about the editing and using the rerecordings! Also for those uninformed, the violins right after Ody first asks "when does a man become a monster" is the VERY SAME MOTIF AS MUTINY RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING!!!
Oh wow!!! I never noticed that! Tysm for blowing my mind🤯. I suspect I never will stop with Jorge and this awesome community❤

"The blood on your hands is something you won't lose, all you can choose is whose"
I love that line it's ominous but its so good 😂😄
Okay now the animatics makes the new versions harder
Gigi's animations are always so entertaining 😭
YUP !!!😊😊😊
The fact that Jay made Ody throw the Astyanax from the tower, when in myths Aeneas saw him smashing the baby's head against the wall.
WHAT-
@@HallowandNeya yeah, In mythology, part of Roman Legends: "Aeneas saw the head of Hector's boy, Astyanax, smashed against the wall."
In the Dictionary of myths and cultural traditions it is written under Astyanax: "Son of Hector and Andromache, after the capture of Troy, thrown from the city walls by Odysseus or Neoptolemus, so that the royal dynasty could not be reborn."
So it really depends where you read
@@AnnabethLaufeyson kinda weird to point to Roman mythology.
the story is specifically based on Homers Odyssey which of course was made way before the Romans co opted Troy had their 'origin'.
also if you wanted to talk about different people killing Astyanax the more common telling is of Neoptolemus son of Achilles in blind rage for the Trojans killing his father either agreeing to do it or doing it himself
@@MadeUpNoun Is it wrong? I just wanted to say that. I'm not saying Jay did something wrong. Especially because I love diversity. And I love how Jay made Epic. I'm not questioning it.
And if you read it, please have in mind, I'm just trying to understand your point of view, that I'm not angry or something. I'm curious. And forgive me if my comment doesn't make sense. English is not my first language
It's always a joy to relive a song with a new animatic
I think you have a hit! My daughter heard of this in her English class in college. She came home this weekend and wanted to show us ( her parents). We watched every one plus the ones that came out today. Magnificent! And great voice! Great writing and story.
THINK YOU’VE GOT YOURSELF A HIT! Keep up the good work. We can’t wait to see it on stage!
I very much like the start of the song. It captures the story in an epic tone that I don't think anyone has been able to capture in any discussion, capturing that awesome military move.
And then it flawlessly transitions into the tragedy. And the rough, terrible choices the ancients had to make.
I LITERALLY JUST BINGED THE FIRST 20 SONGS IN EPIC BY ANIMATICS (MOST OF THEM YOURS) AND YOU PLACE DOWN THIS BANGER????
Every time I hear the line "little Ajax will stay back " I can't stop laughing

The way I GASPED when I saw the hand let go. I didn't think you'd add it 😮 amazing gigi as always I loved the additions!!
"The blood on your hands is something you won't lose. All you can choose is whose" and then Odysseus kills Eurylchus. Beautiful
The kid giving the side eye to Odysseus 3:24
The fact you made the infant extra cute makes is hurt so much more ngl😢
Oof, adding the hand dropping him at the end was crazy
YESS, GIVING THE OFFICIAL AUDIOS THE ATTENTION THEY DESERVE
i love how the new recordings fit kinda fit the animatic better tbh, amazing art as always!!!
I js realized how much gigi’s styles changed.l
this brought me to tears, what a fantastic job you did
the use of colors, the part with the tree near the end, you animating JUST the action of his hand dropping the baby, oh my gosh-
your sparing use of movement made it so much more impactful in the last shots
thank you for creating such an amazing piece of art 💚
3:21 IM SOBBING OMG

-WHATTT
4:38 why is no one talking about the way he just smacks the baby XD
He’s not smacking it he’s covering his eyes XD
He’s like “baby.. DONT LOOK”
"Just a man" has always hit me hard for some reason but watching it played out... not just listening but watching... whoa, tears man. Lots of tears
AWESOME! I love that these two songs are tied in the same video.
I really like how much younger Odysseus looks in the flashback, it shows so much attention to detail.
HOW COULD YOU IT WAS JUST A KID!!!!! IT WAS A BABY!! IT HAD SO MUCH TO LIVE FORR!!!
wow you made dropping the baby sting SO bad . had my eyes watering a little :( his little faace
... My god. Odysseus' micro-expressions... I can't help but admire your dedication, bow humbly, and follow every job you do in the future. As a mythology enthusiast, I can only tell you that you have taken this animation to a level of PERFECTION
So much respect for using the newer versions of the song too! Amazing work as always :)
The tears won't stop. I never considered, never wanted to consider that the baby was awake for this whole encounter 🥺😭😭😭
"With some minor editing" GIGI?! THE HAND GIGI??! MINOR????
GIGI YOU’RE SO GREAT ❤❤❤
Just a Man is a song that will forever have that place in my heart. You did a wonderful job with the animation, it's the best I've come across! The emotions are conveyed so well, I don't think they could've been done better.
Odeysus:"I'm ready"
Zeus:"Nah man you aint gonna be reay unless your heartless you aint ready"
This was amazing, I really like how you were able to morph the tree into a skull. Also the last scene with just showing the hand letting go in the darkness was really powerful. Everything about this was great!
see if homer made the odyssey a musical I wouldn't have failed history
Congrats on 20,000 Subscribers!
