- Time to look back at some of my best used vinyl finds of 2023. You just never know what you will find every time you enter into a record store. Here are some of my biggest surprises that called my name and made me bring them home with me.

It's fun to find used albums with the wow factor. Glad you had some such experiences. As long as you don't come home to your music with an added layer of fireplace ambiance.

Great finds this year Steve...I remember you flipping through that box of records in your garage and suddenly seeing that Jim Sullivan in there and being like, whaaat...hope 2024 treats you as well, cheers!
I hope 2024 will be less expensive Doug lol. I try every year to cut back but the temptation is real lol
Nice selection, love the phrase "morph into new directions" that's what I like about your record choices, never know what you'll be showing next.

Thank you Jason, I was pretty amazed what showed up this year. I think I need to visit less records stores so I can save some money It was fun to find some of these great albums from the 80s

Yeah an OG of Descendents is not easy to score or even verify with so many SST reisues. I have yet to really dig into Zam rock..
It was a good year to find some classics Mike, as a lover of punk no doubt you could appreciate them. I do when possible buy a new reissue of the Zamrock albums so I can listen to it without all the pops and clicks lol. They were definitely used for things besides being played on a record player
Some great finds this year Steve. I should probably make one of these videos considering I haven’t made but only one finds video in 2023. Oops… hahaha

Yeah, go to my expert who talks me into spending lots of money lol. If the Ngozi family is still around Monday he said he would sell it to me. The other Zamrock album you sent me he has on discogs for $500.
Fun list Steve! Great call on the PJ10. Side note, I remember watching that Orange Bowl game. Lawrence Phillips and Tommy Frazier had quite the game.
Ah, the 90s and NE football, oh those were the days that we still fondly remember and drift back to lol. Next year could be interesting for my beloved Huskers Chance.

New Day Rising...The Saints...Confusion is Sex...wow! You basically have my wish list. All three of those albums are on my short list. Confusion is Sex has been particularly difficult; the one early Sonic Youth albums I don't have. Fortunately, I grabed the AiC albums when they briefly became available. But the "heavy hitter" as you say, is real grail. What an amazing find. To tell the truth, I once gave aways an original that I found at a flea market; a teenage girl had tried to reach for the record but I was a bit faster. But...I looked at her face and handed her the record. I figure she needed the record more as a teen than I did. And the smile on her face was worth more than actually having the record. Lol. Happy New Year, Steve. The best to you and your family.
What a great story Shawn to give that album to a girl, not easy for a record collector to do. After the flood I had a mother and a daughter helping us. They were drying off records. As I sorted through the 1000s of album I would try to save a few of the albums, Covers were trashed. The girl helping was interested to get into records. I asked what she would like and she said Pink Floyd so I gave her all the OG early Pink Floyd and later albums. Then I gave her my Velvet Underground albums and Led Zepplin. She was beaming. Her mom later told me she wanted to hang them on her wall! What? Oh well, maybe she listened to them.

Yes, records talk to me too. They say different things to me though. “If your wife finds out how much you paid for me…” or “does food feed your Soul like good music? You can eat anytime, but you won’t find this pressing ever again.”
The Descendants, a classic I never tire of. You did have a great year.

I thought I cut back this year until I looked at what I bought and then realized once again I failed Zonkman. I am very consistent
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 lol. I am very blessed because I bought a crazy amount. Even with economy crazy and Stacy being out of work with shoulder issues, I took a new position at work with significant raise when we didn’t have her income to rely on.
Didn't realize you also found the first Sonic Youth. Bet you got it cheaper so scores-ies for you! Lucky I found that Descedents when it was like $30. I love that one. Misfits...I can't say the same. Dream lives on for that one. LAter Steve!
Yeah the Descendants was quite a bit over $30 but I got such an amazing deal on it. The guy selling it knew me. Sonic Youth my local store had it. Sat around for a long time and was at a good price. His shoppers don’t jump at those records. I finally grabbed it. Happy New Year Dom
Loved this video young Mike. I think that Pearl Jam said ‘come on hon.Mike, take me home’, something like that 😁 Great re-buys, new pre-loved buys. The Saints, yes must have. Interesting what you said about that Husker Du, because that was exact experience with Ssbbath’s Sabotage. First Sabbath record I heard, I loved it, and it’s been fav Sabbath ever since. Mike, wannabe Steve, isn’t that interesting how that first album can captivate us and b3comes the music we expect from that group. My first Zep album was Presence, it still reignites with me. Waterboys was Fisherman Blues, all their other albums can’t compare though that album was more of a one off. I did finally buy the first Sabbath wannabe Steve. I’m still worried it may send me to hell. Hon. Mike

Those are great albums to have and a whole lot cheaper than trying to get an OG.
Cool stack of records Steve. I love that Sonic Youth record (well, I love the CD that I have. lol). Come to think of it, I love the Walk Among Us CD that I have too! But I'd rather have them both on vinyl. Congratulations on a great year of finds - we'll see what 2024 has in store!

Hi Steve - Jar Of Flies 🪰 is my favorite Alice In Chains record. Layne sounds amazing on it. Nutshell is an incredible song. I really like The Mad Season side project done at the same time.
David, I had all the CDs back in the 90s but never spent time with the music, I was just buying too much. Now I had time to digest the music and really enjoy it. It was a great find

Cool finds! 2023 was definitely a great year for finding rare and difficult to find albums. There’s nothing like the originals! I bet you’ll continue to find more gold in 2024!

Yeah, Sonic Youth was something I never could get a handle on. I'm looking for an OG Pearl Jam - Ten. I have the "redux" edition. Records don't talk, but my wallet does and only reminds me that "it's in pain." I have that AIC. I bought most of the AIC stuff from Music on Vinyl. Nice Misfits. It's definitely was a good year for Steve.

Great finds. And, wow, the finale with that Misfits! There’s a G/VG copy for sale right now for $400! Lol one of those records that’s worth the money tho. I don’t listen to the misfits nearly as much as I did as a teenager but that’s an essential record
I got a great deal on the Misfits but it still was not cheap. It was at my local shop and I am the official punk guy where I live so I have been able to pick up some amazing albums. Thanks for taking time to watch, I already overspent this year lol
Great finds for sure!!! I still need to find an original of Pearl Jam 10. I have to check out the Husker Du album. I have three of their others.
Axel, that Du album is so listenable. You can really hear Bob Mould finding his musical chops on it. Very enjoyable songs that are still hard and fast.

Saints for the win Steve. I never see Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains out in the wild. Records do talk to me Steve. I pulled off a major rookie mistake crate digging this week. I was flipping through the new arrivals, and came across a copy of the Cult’s Electric, which you never see, great condition, good price all things considered. I thought to myself I’ll just nip upstairs and check out the dollar bins and then come back and grab it. Well you know how this ended don’t you. Of course it was gone. Sigh!! I could have kicked myself. Oh well, lots of records to find in this world. Happy New Year my friend.
OmG Jack, that has happened to me also. You set a great record down as you go look at other items and then it disappears. I grab those albums now. I’ll put them back if I change my mind. Too many albums were talking to me this year. I should probably wear ear plugs when I go into a store lol.

Nice finds, when I was a teenage thrash metal and hardcore punk head in the 80's I did branch off into different genres sometimes, one of which is when I found a "confusion is sex" cassette at a flea market for a buck, I thought the name "Sonic Youth" was cool, the music not so much but I did appreciate it, still have the cassette!
Louis, that is wonderful you still have that cassette from Sonic Youth. Who knew they would become so influential! My first time listening to early SY all I could think of is what is that crap lol. Now, I get it but it is still hard to dance to lol
I got I'm Stranded and Milo because of you (digitally). Didn't like either :) If I heard it earlier in my life, they would have stuck, but now I know too many other bands influenced by them so it didn't catch me like it would have if it were novel to me. But, neat that you got them, nonetheless.
Early punk is still a big part of what I collect Kris, those albums still get me excited but it is my wheelhouse. Musical taste continue to change, I wonder about what I have been buying now and in 10 years will that have just been a waste of money. This is where digital pays off I guess
Do the records ever talk to me at the stores? Why yes they do. Sometimes when i attempt to leave the store i hear this laughter "Hey dude, alright i give it to you, you almost made it look like you were gonna leave me behind. Now just turn around, pick me up and walk to the counter and pay. You KNOW you're gonna feel much better" With such a sound advice to my own well being, what else can i do.
Always listen to the good advice. And remember, with a lighter wallet, your posture is in better balance.

Mr Finglish, I think that is the only Misfits album that I will truly need It is fun to have and looks cool.
An interesting tidbit about SY they used to travel around with 30-40 guitars. Litterally a different guitar for each song. As they were damaged and disintergrated, they had to abandon those songs

I’ve never heard New Day Rising. I will most likely buy the reissues of Sonic Youth’s debut and Confusion Is Sex. You ended with two heavy hitters. Misfits>Suicide>Waterboys
What I buy now has changed.
Richie, next year I’m looking at retirement so I also will need to change my buying habits. More time on my hand sounds like a recipe for a spending disaster. I need to get it figured out. Watching the Jets vs Browns. Weird seeing the Browns and Lions with such good records.

There's a live Husker Du album called The Living End and if you ever find it buy it? It's one of their best. I think Husker Du is best when they are live. Their energy just doesn't come across the same on the studio records. In my opinion anyway.
I do have the Living End, great album Keith. Before the flood I had all their albums, now I’m getting close to having them back again. It is such a powerful group. One of the great groups from the 80s for sure

I'm sure it was pretty traumatic because I've lost all my belongings once and can relate to how that feels. Very happy to see you rebuilding your life again. And that's pretty bad ass that you already have the Living End album. Very cool. 🍻
