- Rocky Mountain Record Show is a large show on three floors. Grails galore are scattered around the different floors at varying prices I came in prepared with a list to stick to, should be no problem and then I began to look into the bins of records and...well...you know...temptation

Thanks Brian, I am so excited to have another grandkids. Being a grandparent is the best! I never knew it would be so wonderful. Michigan had some big shows but this one, they come from all the surrounding states. The spring one is even bigger. Incredible what I saw and I tried to video the prices. The place can do major damage to your bank account ! I hope your also doing well Brian and keeping Jonathan in check lol

I have never seen that Galas record Randy. I have checked discogs for it, only for sale in Europe when I have checked. A unsealed copy would have been better, less stress on to open or not to open, that is the question. lol. I do play Year of The Cat periodically, it is a favorite album of mine Very nice record show Randy

@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I go to shows with 3 list. Pocket paper list, list in notes on my phone & my discogs list. I do pretty good sticking to them. It gets crazy at those shows , I get vinyl drunk after a few hours or my back starts hurting then it’s time to go. So you going to the next show ???
Those prices are outrageous. Do some of these dealers really think that they are going to sell large quantities of records, while pricing them so high?
I will be going to my first fair in a few weeks. I expect unusually high prices. These guys have to cover table and travel costs in addition to still having their physical store costs to cover while not there. But, that leads me to think I will be walking away from a lot of records I disagree with the price on!

I just found a copy of the Clerks soundtrack at Goodwill. I did not know that it was somewhat sought after. Looks like an excellent show Steve. That Diamanda Gala with JPJ is a surprisingly good album. The construction of the songs are dynamite. We all know by now that Jonesy is clearly a master instrumentalist. I first learned about DG through the Natural Born Killers soundtrack that I bought at RSD. Her vocals may be a bit Yokoish at times. But in a mezzo-soprano kind of way. Dig the Jimi too~

OMG Rob, Galas vocals are not for everyone but this album with Jones is so freaking good due to Jones incredible playing. Crazy about prices. Think about what a lot of your collection would go for now Rob. Really crazy isn’t it
Relieved to see nudity has returned to the collection + channel. The prices on some of those albums was intense. $10,000 on that Lords of Salem was wild. I do know that vendor SLO-LOW from the Austin show - always killer stuff. Sweet pickups Steve! Thanks for the virtual ride along 👍🏻

The first sign of a problem, Professor, is blaming others for your inability to control your vinyl habit....poor Tice, what did he ever do to you? heh heh...I love collecting, and I love music, but I just can't fathom spending the kind of money some people do on ONE ALBUM....to me that's just INSANE...still, I'm happy you're happy about what you found, and always remember - vinyl is there to be PLAYED, not sitting on the shelf unopened - another thing I just can't fathom...another way I don't fit the stereotypical VC model member, heh heh...enjoy your finds, hope they're as pleasing to the ear as you want them to be! 🙂

lol TC, listen, someone has to take the fall so Thijse was the man haha. He is a great guy, really had a good time at the show with him. My collecting has changed with my age. Now it is about finding different interesting items, some fairly rare but if I can afford them I love to grab them. I use to buy quantity now it’s more about hard to find albums as long as they interest me and it’s something I want. I would not have spent a bunch on a special Beatles pressing but the Galas was special to me. Still deciding on opening the album as I listen to the CD I still have of it

I would never go into a record show with a list. I might have a particular record in mind that day, but for me the main point of going to a show is to see things that are surprising and unexpected. I once stood next to Diamanda Galas in the audience at a Lene Lovich concert.
Was standing next to Dalas intimidating, her music sure is! Michael I find to many unexpected surprises and they always cost a lot of money! I wish I could be surprised on a cheap album

Galas being a tad intimidating is an understatement lol. She scares the crap out of me haha. David, it is nice to see where people will spend for your records. I was trying hard to show the prices on the albums for that reason. So many that I bought for so cheap I now have to pay huge amounts to bring back
Those "drop the jaw" moments.... I've been there. The only feeling you have is "I am not leaving without this record. It is not an option".

Jack, you always seem to be restrained in your purchases. You come back with 20 albums for only $10! That is pretty good. I get caught up with shiny objects that I’m afraid I will never see again.
You actually thought a fellow vinyl collector could keep you under control....you do have unreasonable expectations, don't you. Wow what a nice collection of gold, I would come away from that record show with a new mortgage....on my rental. But then I see the prices and I suppose I would just run away with my tail between my legs. But then the prices on some of the Punk wasn't too unreasonable, so okay, maybe I'd stick around. Blaze Foley....now that's something. I saw him at a manager's conference down in Amarillo, TX back in my record store days, where he did a private performance, one of his last ever. Very nice MOFI of Al Stewart "Time Passages", that is one worth having. Monkey sons rejoice, you were looking through the wrong bin! Always check that last bin, if there is a treasure, that's where it is usually located! And unsealed to boot! Amazing!
Mike, I put a lot of pressure on Thijs but he was up to the challenge. He is much more restrained than I am lol. There were a lot of temptations, makes me wonder what the opening day would have been like but the second day was free to enter. I am not aware of Blaze Foley, cool you got to see him perform though. Kmart , when we had money use to bring in a lot of performers, especially country stars, those were the days Mike
Steve, seemed like a good show. Was it in a parking garage? I have the Diamanda/JPJ CD. You should play the CD for a while and just relish finally owning the vinyl. I finally spotted Tim in the video. Thanks, Chris

Steve, this is a borderline hit piece on me 😂. Finally checked out the Diamanda Galas / JPJ song, reminds me of Concrete Blonde. Had a good time and we should definitely go again in spring. I’ll just have to make sure to stick closer, so you won’t completely bankrupt yourself.
lol Thijs, someone had to take the fall for my overspending. I couldn’t blame it on me! That was pretty fun to do lol. I look forward to our next adventure , hopefully it will be cheaper for me
Thanks for your story, Steve. I've had similar moments. If I'm splurging once in a great while not a problem. If I'm spending money I don't really have to spend, over and over, on things that are not neccesities, I might need to do a gut check on that. (PS. I'm by myself these days.) Speaking of which I got to get that Eric Carmen record, All by Myself. Wish me luck I'm off to the record shops!
Ah man, sorry to hear your all by yourself. Things are a whole lot different no doubt. You’re right when it comes to money, better be able to back it up. I will say my credit card is paid off monthly but I do spend too much on vinyl when I could be saving for something else like a trip. I really need to work on that. I hope you found your Carmen album but I do think you need some thing more upbeat. Stay away from the Three Dog Night album with One please
Hi Steve. I usually end up spending more when I've got friends with me. They act as an extra pair of eyes, so I don't miss anything. I do find that a minority of vendors in the UK really take the piss with pricing but the majority are fair and open to a bit of haggling. Cheers Mike.
Mike, I tend to find more are charging too much sadly. They grab people like me who let emotion enter into the purchase lol.
The first Adam Ant album, Dirk Wears White Sox, is really good. Diamanda Galas is quite a gal.
I never see that album Richie. I would buy that one since it would be in the height of punk. Could you imagine a date with Diamanda, seems like it could be quite intense haha
Note to self: don’t go to record shows! Lots of great finds there! But man, the prices! Just a few years ago those albums were a lot less. Times have changed! I’d have to have a wallet that locked up my credit card. That Björk is a great album, but maybe the OG has too much on the vinyl. I got the reissue and it’s on two albums with plenty of space. Something to think about. Or do you have a good collection of Björk OG albums? Then that’s another thing.
Michael I did save my vinyl on that repress of Bjork. It is my favorite album by her. I did order a OG off of Discogs. It was a lot cheaper. That particular vendor charges too much, they did last time also. I guess they make deals There was a ton of stuff I liked but I did enough damage haha
Geez, even Chris Isaak is over $100, what is the deal with those 90's album prices, are those just the going rates these days. You could find the CD's of all those for next to nothing lol. Couple of good Canadian bands in the psych bin. Original of the Pharaohs, nice. I actually thrifted a copy of Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails long ago, still have it. Not familiar with Diamanda Galas though the name rings a bell, expensive but fun day Steve!
Huh, that was a big fair. Pretty expensive recordsin the bins, but that is usually way in the fairs. I got my Adam Ant LP free. Someone gave a big plastic of records free and Adam was there.
Get out, free records are the best! I wasn’t so lucky. I did find a few items priced okay but in the grand scheme of things still expensive. It does get discouraging but for those that love to dig no doubt bargains can be found. I just suck at finding them lol
i have that third world war on CD its cool early 70,s proto punk a lot of good titles there prices were up and down for me. we have a show here in Calgary on Sunday. i haven't decided yet. wow i forgot about that diamanda galas, i remember hearing that in CMJ as well.i still have all of my CMJ cd,s. cheers.
Ron, I had all my CMJ CDs until the flood. I had 20 years worth of them. I bought so much music thanks to those CDs. With time their reviews kept getting smaller and smaller and then they quit CDs and you had to download it, forget that. Prices were up and down, you did need to be careful, something I’m not the best at lol

Yeah I got a list of records I want too. I keep it in a secret compartment in my wallet. At the 5:00 minute mark I laughed my ass off. Not one soul at the Taylor Swift booth..... MAN the prices of those records were astronomical. Time to sell.... If I only knew how to do it with the least amount of hassle I just might.....

everything gets prefaced with 'depending on the price'..i saw you pass up nick drake..what a true sad artist..also, radio birdman..its a pretty cool album..also, the new york dolls double album..that was a keeper...charity ball by fanny was also great..i'd need a wing, nut, and bolt man (ha)...

I do have the Nick Drake albums. I saw some OGs there also. I recently got a repress of the Birdman album, I gave serious thought to grabbing that one you saw but it was early, the first table so I waited. Some prices were fair but a lot were kind of crazy Rocky
I am bidding on a KISS record on eBay right now. The auction ends tonight. Right now I am at $264. I won't go above $294. I am planning on loosing the bidding. It's a very good complete copy of a promotional KISS The Originals. White record labels and all. I have stopped going to record stores altogether. The shop owners have got $ fever and I can't afford they're illness.
I understand what you’re saying about record stores. I still buy most of mine from the Midland store as I get good deals. In Denver I am still looking for the best shops

Well Zonkman, every corner seems to have a dispensary here so yes, a lot of them are quite high haha. Yeah I found many vendors ask for crazy prices. I tried to be more careful this time. I spent some bucks but felt much better about what I paid. Many record stores also charge to much IMHO.
"We take cash" I sure bet they did. Everything was 50 and over, including most of the customers. Well, I just opened 2 sealed records. No biggie if you open one. Right??
