No puede ser lo que me acaba de sugerir YT, pensé que era un fandom. Precisamente este año cumple 30 aniversario según el copyright y salió a la luz ahora. Me voló la cabeza! Pienso en la cantidad de merchandinsing que hubiese salido en base a esta serie adaptada (que por cierto para mi hubiese tenido exito), ver a los protagonistas con trajes de astronautas pasando por verlos con el torso desnudo y unos pantalones estilo karatekas que estaban de moda en aquella época y POR SUERTE EL GLORIOSO FINAL CON LAS ARMADURAS con todos sus colores predeterminados. Sin duda esto es una caricia a todos los +30 que pasamos aquella infancia en los 90s. MUCHAS GRACIAS POR DESCUBIRLO SUBTITULARLO Y TRAERLO AL PUBLICO HISPANO. Saludos desde Argentina!

I love how most of them had their mentors being based on their actual teachers from the anime, and then you have Shun and Hyoga (already forgot their localized names) who were trained by some woman in the jungle and a random skii instructor. Other than that, and the fact that all the golden knights are evil in this version, this show actually does an interesting job adapting the source material. I would have definitely enjoyed an entire season of this as a kid. Thank you very much for finding and sharing this pilot. :)

Until she discovers the Star Storm pilot her quest is not complete. Who knows if of the pre production tape of the 1991 Hades saga that Toei produced a copy still exists in Japan and will ever be leaked.

@@guyk768 For anime one of the ultimate holy grails of lost media to be found is an unaltered print of the Hokuto no Ken movie, with all the body and head explosions in it's uncensored ultra violent glory. Last time I check about it in 2021 an auction in Japan took place of a 35mm print of the film of the "uncensored" version, but nothing new about it came ever since if it was the real deal or not. In 2026 it will be the movie's 40th anniversary, so maybe that year the uncensored version would be released at last.
Uh, my guy, I think this is about the only piece of "Guardians of the Cosmos" that exists. It's just the pilot episode, not a whole cartoon series. If they had produced a whole series, it would have been syndicated and broadcast back then. That said, in spite of the simple story I find it entertaining, it's a shame they didn't greenlit it.

Lo que más me sorprendió de esta adaptación fue ver a un "Guilty honorable y amable", pero qué universo es este? me pregunté... esa estética de dibujo animado de los 90s le dio un toque muy especial y nostálgico a este piloto, ya que muchas series que disfrutamos en la adolescencia tenían este estilo (jajaja ese Aldebarán que más parecía un Juggernaut jejeje y los protagonistas, todos unos machos alfas de torso desnudo jajaja Hubiese querido ver a los demás caballeros dorados restantes). En fin, gracias Ray Mona por compartir este importantísimo lost media para la fanaticada de Saint Seiya (aka Caballeros del Zodiaco). Saludos.

It's so funny that Death Queen Island turned into a dirty alleyway. It's interesting the direction they took when adapting Saint Seiya. It's also surprising how closely they followed the designs of the characters giving them strange colored hair and keeping shun pink. Making Ikki part of the team from the start is jarring as well as revealing Athena right away. A reasonable change they made was removing the fact they're all half brothers (Same father different moms except for Ikki and Shun who have the same mom, Unless they were planning on revealing them all being brothers later as a twist). It's a shame from the looks of it they would have made all the golden saints evil when a lot of them were neutral/joined them after being defeated. The cyber punk setting is interesting it would have been cool to see what more they would have done with it.
I hadn't watched Saint Seiya before this but I enjoyed that adaptation, reminded me a lot of 1987 TMNT, which makes me wonder, did Renae Jacobs (87 April) or Rob Paulsen work on this because when I heard Olympia's voice she sounded a lot like 87 April O' Neil
I have seen three of these american remakes so far, and I got to say...this is probably the best one. Oh, don't get me wrong, this is cheesy and doesn't quite match with Saint Seiya at all, but its still fun. There is a little bit of charm that I can't really describe and it makes me want to come back to.

As someone who has no preconception of the original anime coloring my opinion [I didn't even know it existed until I watched your series on it], I can say that this is definitely much more watchable than I expected. I typically dislike early 80's/90's American cartoons and actively ignored them in my youth, but this could actually entertain me as an adult. It had potential to be a decent children's show of the time, and I would've probably actually enjoyed it as a kid. [Also, Apollo is hilarious. "OH FOR THE LOVE OF ZEUS!"]

Lo curioso es que en esta producción también hay animadores japoneses, se nota en varios aspectos de la animación, por mucho que la hayan querido americanizan. Con sus mas y sus menos, podría entrar en ese grupo de producciones animadas japonesas de factura americana como "La Sirenita" de Saban, o las adaptaciones de cuentos de Jetlag Productions.

Suprised this adaptation of the original Saint Seiya anime I enjoyed existed but looks alot better than both the CGI Netflix remake and the Live Action movie combined, that's for sure. Now I wanna see a Saint Seiya AU where the Saint Cloths as Robots in Disguise to be a thing someday XD lol.

Thank you! If it had come out as intended, I most certainly would have been watching it along with other cartoons I watched back then. The jokes were so stupid they were actually funny. Quinn throwing his Fist of Fire like a bowling ball had me laugh so hard I had to pause to catch my breath.
Honestly this would've been a better introduction to the series in America than either the DiC dub or the Netflix CGI series. And that opening is great. Not Pegasus Fantasy level amazing but at least as catchy as Bowling for Soup's I Ran cover was, lol.
@@1dbad Netflix/Crunchyroll's CGI may have its flaws, but at least it's not as drastically different to the manga/anime as this pilot was. This pilot had zero mystique and all characters are vain and childish. Both things that made the original story and anime adaption so good and strong.
@touch_the_sky You know what? That's fair. I wrote said comment when only the first season of the CGI series was out. I was personally underwhelmed by it, finding it terribly rushed with a lot of odd changes. But from what I've recently learned, it sounds like I was premature in writing it off. I've heard the quality has improved since season 2, that they're attempting to adapt the entire manga, and that it has managed to get new fans into the franchise. So it's obviously doing something right. It's also not that I was particularly impressed by this cartoon, but it has one advantage the other attempts to bring Seiya to the West did not: It would've been contemporary. I can't help but think a large part of why the DiC dub (and subsequent ADV redub) failed to take off here was due to coming over nearly 20 years late.

At least they kinda respected the motives behind the actions of Gemini Saga/Pope Arles (Apollo in this cartoon). In the original anime Saga saw a prophecy that a new Holy War was approaching and Athena's reincarnation was bounded to doom humanity so he decided to take the place of Pope Shion, kill her Athena and prepare humankind for the new Holy War against the gods, by destroying the weak. It's not exactly the same but similar to try to destroy humankind because they are destroying the planet

Thank you for all the work you put in, not just in getting the footage itself but in recording so much production history. It's such a shame when creative endeavors get shoved away in a drawer somewhere just cause no one invested in a full season order!! So many short lived productions, failed pitches and unaired pilots influenced the development of animation & fandom, it's insane. I think what they learned from making this is that you can't have three or more protagonists shirtless in the same shot. I don't hate it but it does make the shirtlessness... a presence.

ray mona i love haw you can find these lost treasures that we never had the chance to see and i thank you for all your hard work and i have an idea for your next treasure hunt if you like it its golden girl and the guardians of the gemstones at first i seen only old 80's toy commercials of it i thought it was only a toy but one day i seen a commercial with scenes that look like they are from an animated cartoon special i think it maybe another lostmedia to look in too if you like

Lo que más me sorprendió de esta adaptación fue ver a un "Guilty honorable y amable", pero qué universo es este? me pregunté... esa estética de dibujo animado de los 90s le dio un toque muy especial y nostálgico a este piloto, ya que muchas series que disfrutamos en la adolescencia tenían este estilo (jajaja ese Aldebarán que más parecía un Juggernaut jejeje y los protagonistas, todos unos machos alfas de torso desnudo jajaja Hubiese querido ver a los demás caballeros dorados restantes). En fin, gracias Ray Mona por compartir este importantísimo lost media para la fanaticada de Saint Seiya (aka Caballeros del Zodiaco). Saludos.

It's so funny that Death Queen Island turned into a dirty alleyway.
It's interesting the direction they took when adapting Saint Seiya. It's also surprising how closely they followed the designs of the characters giving them strange colored hair and keeping shun pink. Making Ikki part of the team from the start is jarring as well as revealing Athena right away.
A reasonable change they made was removing the fact they're all half brothers (Same father different moms except for Ikki and Shun who have the same mom, Unless they were planning on revealing them all being brothers later as a twist). It's a shame from the looks of it they would have made all the golden saints evil when a lot of them were neutral/joined them after being defeated.
The cyber punk setting is interesting it would have been cool to see what more they would have done with it.
yeah it reminds me of how that live-action TMNT show made it so none of the turtles were related.
Maybe it was just Detroit which is worse than Death Queen Island.

At least in this version Guilty didn't kill his own daughter and Ikki didn't pierce Guilty's chest with his fist!

I hadn't watched Saint Seiya before this but I enjoyed that adaptation, reminded me a lot of 1987 TMNT, which makes me wonder, did Renae Jacobs (87 April) or Rob Paulsen work on this because when I heard Olympia's voice she sounded a lot like 87 April O' Neil

I have seen three of these american remakes so far, and I got to say...this is probably the best one. Oh, don't get me wrong, this is cheesy and doesn't quite match with Saint Seiya at all, but its still fun. There is a little bit of charm that I can't really describe and it makes me want to come back to.

It isn't bad, it has good production values, but one major flaw is that all 5 of them have the same personality and kind of talk the same.

As someone who has no preconception of the original anime coloring my opinion [I didn't even know it existed until I watched your series on it], I can say that this is definitely much more watchable than I expected. I typically dislike early 80's/90's American cartoons and actively ignored them in my youth, but this could actually entertain me as an adult. It had potential to be a decent children's show of the time, and I would've probably actually enjoyed it as a kid.
[Also, Apollo is hilarious. "OH FOR THE LOVE OF ZEUS!"]

Como iba a saber que Fred Wolf Films estuvo involucrada en ese proyecto, reconoci el estilo de animacion de las Tortugas Ninja y James Bond Jr. en esto, y encima con Jeffrey Scott como editor de historia.
Habían cosas peores en esa época. Hubiera sido divertido ver esa versión americana.

@@tucanestudios2012 no solo es que habían cosas peores en esa época, diría que la premisa de este piloto y la construcción de su mundo tiene más sentido incluso que la obra original de kurumada, donde muchas cosas pasaron solo porque sí xD, o sea saint seiya sigue siendo 1000 veces mejor en todo lo demás, pero creo que esto tenía potencial, quien sabe si ambas obras hubiesen podido coexistir en los 90
Lo curioso es que en esta producción también hay animadores japoneses, se nota en varios aspectos de la animación, por mucho que la hayan querido americanizan. Con sus mas y sus menos, podría entrar en ese grupo de producciones animadas japonesas de factura americana como "La Sirenita" de Saban, o las adaptaciones de cuentos de Jetlag Productions.
Estos momentos si que me dieron risa 😆, igual Shiryu con la cadena de andromeda en el aeropuerto??

Suprised this adaptation of the original Saint Seiya anime I enjoyed existed but looks alot better than both the CGI Netflix remake and the Live Action movie combined, that's for sure.
Now I wanna see a Saint Seiya AU where the Saint Cloths as Robots in Disguise to be a thing someday XD lol.

I watched the Netflix ver. of Saint and really liked it. Although this is bastardized, this is still very interesting and I liked it. Worthwhile find!

Honestly this would've been a better introduction to the series in America than either the DiC dub or the Netflix CGI series.
And that opening is great. Not Pegasus Fantasy level amazing but at least as catchy as Bowling for Soup's I Ran cover was, lol.

@@1dbad Netflix/Crunchyroll's CGI may have its flaws, but at least it's not as drastically different to the manga/anime as this pilot was. This pilot had zero mystique and all characters are vain and childish. Both things that made the original story and anime adaption so good and strong.
@touch_the_sky You know what? That's fair. I wrote said comment when only the first season of the CGI series was out. I was personally underwhelmed by it, finding it terribly rushed with a lot of odd changes. But from what I've recently learned, it sounds like I was premature in writing it off. I've heard the quality has improved since season 2, that they're attempting to adapt the entire manga, and that it has managed to get new fans into the franchise. So it's obviously doing something right.
It's also not that I was particularly impressed by this cartoon, but it has one advantage the other attempts to bring Seiya to the West did not: It would've been contemporary. I can't help but think a large part of why the DiC dub (and subsequent ADV redub) failed to take off here was due to coming over nearly 20 years late.

For an early 90s US action cartoon this was pretty good but I'm sure it would've been censored had it been picked up. The animation was alright especially for the action scenes.

At least they kinda respected the motives behind the actions of Gemini Saga/Pope Arles (Apollo in this cartoon). In the original anime Saga saw a prophecy that a new Holy War was approaching and Athena's reincarnation was bounded to doom humanity so he decided to take the place of Pope Shion, kill her Athena and prepare humankind for the new Holy War against the gods, by destroying the weak. It's not exactly the same but similar to try to destroy humankind because they are destroying the planet

Thank you for all the work you put in, not just in getting the footage itself but in recording so much production history. It's such a shame when creative endeavors get shoved away in a drawer somewhere just cause no one invested in a full season order!! So many short lived productions, failed pitches and unaired pilots influenced the development of animation & fandom, it's insane. I think what they learned from making this is that you can't have three or more protagonists shirtless in the same shot. I don't hate it but it does make the shirtlessness... a presence.
