  • In Part 1 we'll look at the Enttec DMXis Hardware/Software solution for running any DMX controlled LED stage lighting. We'll take a look at the Enttec website, features and pricing, as well as, a quick high level look at how I utilize my Line 6 HELIX foot pedal board to run my DMX LED Light Show live while playing guitar and singing!
(Part 2 will be a deeper dive into setting up the DMXis software) Link to Part 2:

Very cool. Wish more cover band guitar players would deep dive into tech and contribute to the band like this. Well done!

Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! I am definitely the tech guy in our band and I find it fun and challenging to do what I can to add to our live show. It's funny, because I've had many people ask me where our light guy is at, and I say..."You are looking at him!" LOL. I assume you are a drummer based on your TH-cam name, have you done anything with electronic drum triggers sending out midi change information or trigger samples?

Thank you for your video. It’s nice to see that we are not alone in looking for solutions to control light with our musician equipment. I use a Doremidi MTD 1024 that worked very well but broke down after one month... To drive Spots is very good, but not for driving lyres that require recordings of sequences of movements. Do you know if the MDXIS can receive a MIDI CC message and convert it to send a MIDI NOTE message instead? Thank you for your answer Larry

That's a great question. First off, I believe that DMXiS is now no longer in production, but you may be able to still find available used or possibly new/old stock. With that said, I don't believe that the DMXiS can convert a midi CC command to midi note message. Beyond the midi program change information, I do know that it can receive midi CC message. I use the main lighting level to be connected to my Line 6 Helix expression pedal so I can dim the lights on certain presets. What exactly are you trying to accomplish by sending a midi note?

Great stuff Larry. I didn't realize just how versatile the Helix really is. Looking forward to your next video.

Great videos! I am actually about to venture into lighting for my two bands and also had the idea of using the MIDI commands from my Helix to switch the light scenes. Your videos prove my theory is possible. One question I have is when switching to a different preset does it send the MIDI command right then and there or does it not do it until you hit the snapshot switch?

Yes, when you go to the next preset it will send the midi command information automatically. It will send the midi command info to the "snap shot foot switch button" you have saved as the "active" button when going to that preset.

What’s the difference between the box you have and the DMX pro box? I heard the DMXIS box you have has been discontinued. I need to get one of these and I’m not sure which to get.

It's my understanding that the DMXis box is or has been discontinued, so the DMX Pro Box would be the more updated interface. I'm not sure if the DMX Pro Box will run the DMXis Software though. If not, there should be an alternative software solution to support that updated "Pro" interface. Best of luck!

    Hey, Larry.
I'm also planning to get Dmxis. Do they still continue to update their software's?

The DMXis Software hasn't been updated in a while, but I do recall them updating a couple times in the past. I've been using the same hardware/software solution for about 10 years now and it's really been rock solid.
