    Firstly, *THANK YOU* for the work that you did to create this video and to empower the people out there with the knowledge to make such a device!!! Well done! Personally, I would have made some changes, initially by using an 18650 and a boost converter instead, although those parts are less easily obtained. Unfortunately, as I am certain you have already found, a 9v battery is nothing, in terms of electrical capacity... I can't imagine you are getting even a few hundred mAh, from even the best 9v batteries out there... The price/power ratio of a 9v is TERRIBLE! In fact, you would certainly be better off making a battery pack out of 7 or 8 NiMH batteries, though the source would be much larger, but you could still use the same 9v connector, allowing you to carry your inexpensive and rechargeable battery pack with you, and although not the capacity of a Li-Ion/Polymer battery pack, it could be made for cheaper, and thus can be whatever design or form factor best suits your lifestyle. Finally, my last recommendation would be to use 1 or 2 18650 batteries, with a tiny boost converter, and make a simple keychain rechargeable power pack that can easily fit on your keychain, alternatively, as with thew one you've created, you could use the 9v connector and again, keep the pack with you, and have it for quick and easy connections when power is needed, which, based on the phone you have in the video, I suspect is pretty frequently. ;-) hehe. Oh, I did want to add, *I LOVE THAT YOU USED HEAT SHRINK* to hold it all together!!! I have been racking my brain on how I will hold together my planned battery pack, I had finally settled on using my InstaMorph for that, and then I considered purchasing some Sugru, or similar, but your ingenious idea of setting it with heat shrink, FANDIDDLYTASTIC, my friend!!! Well done!
    Now, for all of the turds out there:
    First, you suck balls, and not the good kind, the cochanbahls kind!
    It amazes me how many people are saying things such as, "What does he mean it doesn't need electricity? FAKE!"... It is so ridiculously obvious that he meant it doesn't need an outlet, charger, or mains electricity, you've got to be pretty foolish to be unable to sort that out...
    In addition, the people that say things like, "I wouldn't use a thing like that from a 9v battery, it could damage your phone/it's not going to work/it's not meant to be powered from a 9v", etc. etc. You don't need to be an electrical engineer to know that *the power source doesn't matter*. Hell, by that logic then your phone is being powered by 110/120/240v when you power it from the wall! The buck converter in this unit is what is *really* powering it, just like the power converter that you plug into the wall is what *really* powers your phone... Those convert the mains power from the wall into the 5v source that the phone requires, which as SOME of you may know is not actually what powers the phone, the battery does, and anybody with any semblance of common sense should be able to find out that the phone actually runs off of a Lithium battery, which provides a nominal 3.7v source, but in reality fluctuates between ~2.7-3.7v. As such, converting the power from a 9v (which is 6x1.5 cells inside) is perfectly safe, so long as the buck converter you are using is of some quality.
    So, for all of you trying to put down this guy's attempt to not only educate you, but additionally to empower you to create something with your own hands and knowledge, basically, *fuck off*!!!

    Very useful! imagine having this just hanging with your keys and you are on a mall without a charger or an external battery pack and you just needed extra juice, just go buy a 9V battery and you're fine.

  • @dopeofthepope
    @dopeofthepope 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice idea but you should put a second 9V connector on the other side so that you have an input of 18V. This does not only simply double up the loading capacity but also the effiency: When you use just one 9V battery, it will stop charging the phone as soon as it goes down to about 6,5 - 7V (the amperage will go down too far to maintain charging) but if you use two 9V batteries, they logically will discharge as far as to about 3,25 - 3,5 Volts each before they become too weak and the keychain charger won´t even be significantly bigger - and it will still work with only one battery if necessary (though much less efficient). Regarding the 12V to 5V converter from the USB charger: the 18V shouldn´t even heat it up, so no problems with reliability.

    Yeah it's a cool gadget but in Australia 9v batteries are pretty expensive and not very common. It's one of those things, if I did it, I'd use 18650's and then I may as well just use a normal power bank. If you had access to 9V batteries for free or very cheaply it's pretty cool. I just wonder what you do that you need to charge your phone so much! Mine lasts pretty much a day and longer if I go for a drive and it charges in my car.
