Real Images from the Solar System 2, MOONS!

  • Dear World,
    This time we explore the real images we have from the moons of our system.
    As we approach the 50 year celebration of the moon landing, we will probably hear more of our own natural satellite.
    Also I saw in the previous episode there is a lot of confusion
    about the validity of images.
    To all the people saying CGI, there was a time when hardly anybody had a computer.
    We had books, and the Voyager images were in there already. I aknowledge the great problem certain people have to find out what is real in a time where you can find any information you like. Also the fake one.

      Nowadays any new media drowns in a sea of data.
      But the only place where it has a meaning is in the mind of people.
      So as my aim is to create things that last, I do my best it stays there. :)
      (It kind of works as I also like to look back on my movies.)

      I used Adobe After Effects. Which is a video compositing software. Also Adobe Premiere (video editing) would be adequate. But they are both not free, I am sure there are plenty of good free video editing programs out there. You could also show it as 3D objects and use a 3D program. Blender is very good and free.

      A modified Hasselblad 500 EL was used mostly. The medium was of course film. Which did not have "resolution" but was kind of analogue. Indeed high quality.
      (I remember the time when I had 24 images on a camera and no idea how they turned out until I had them developed.)
      It all comes down how well the image has been preserved and scanned. There is already astonishing detail in photograps way earlier.

    Where are background stars??

    • @morn1415
      @morn1415  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has to do with exposure. Next to a sunlit planetary surface stars a too faint to be recorded. If you don´t believe try to take a picture of the full moon and the stars in the background at night. Should be easy, right? They are both in the sky at night.
      Actually stars in the background is a good indicator the image is fake. It is only in movies, not on a real image.

    So something that is barely a few km’s in diameter can still be called a moon, yet Pluto being a bit smaller than your usual planet can’t be called a planet?
    C’mon people, show Pluto some respect.

    • @morn1415
      @morn1415  ปีที่แล้ว

      The main reason for Pluto not falling into the definition of a planet any more is not its size. :)
      It is due to the fact that it did not manage to clear its orbit. So the king of the dwarf planets did not tidy it's room.

    • @SlickONick

      @@morn1415 Wait seriously? I’ve been lied to my whole life! :0

    • @morn1415
      @morn1415  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SlickONick So it is better to read about and understand things than just believing people or not. :)
      In 2006 scientists came together and fixed the following 3 rules for being a planet:
      1. It must be in orbit around a star (The sun in our case).
      2. It must be round or nearly round.
      3. It must have cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.
      Also, regarding orbits, Plutos is the first one that is not in a disc, but elongated and tilted. But they didnt even include that as a criteria. They just began to think about things more deeply after they found other "planets" with similar size.
      So the Solar System went from 9 Planets to 8. If they wouldnt have done that, we would have run into problems very soon, because we just dont know how many "planets" the Solar System would have otherwise. Currently whe got about 200 dwarf planet candidates! Imagine that.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_possible_dwarf_planets
      Right in January of 2006 (when we still officially had nine planets), the New Horizons space probe started heading towards Pluto. It arrived there 2015 and took the most amazing closeup images of a dwarf planet we have (We know all the others only as a bright spot). So everybody talked about Pluto. People always liked the Planet as they thought it had the name of a cute dog by Disney, but it is a greek god of course. When we saw it, it even had a heart like formation of its surface. Cuteness overload. Then they learned about its degradation in 2006. As many people are not interested in reasons, they were angry.
      I don´t understand the fuzz about Pluto. Of course I just love the images we have of it, but at the same time I am sad about the fact that I will probably never see Eris in my life. It has even more mass than Pluto. Pluto was just the first one we found.
