Since you already know about the special stages, the bonus stages ARE important to getting those, but it's still only on intense or higher. Also, Cd's appear every 15 prisons broken and show up as an alternate song for certain tracks (the one you unlocked, as an example, is used for the 2nd bonus stage/battle stage of the ring cup) And just as a reference, the rival is determined by your character (each character has a set of 3 possible rivals (sonic and amy are 2 of metal sonic's, but i don't remember the 3rd) and if the rival is beaten too hard a new one will be selected at random) and usually both increases the speed of the character and the ai ranking
Actually the bonus stages aren’t important at all for getting to the special stages, since the only requirement is getting 50 or more total rings by the end of the cup, and bonus stages don’t have any rings.
@jackhumphries1087 thats... Not how the special stages work, you need to get an overall a rank (425 points or higher) by the end of track 5, rings are PART of it (every 2 rings gets you a point for a maximum of 50) but rings aren't the only thing that matters
I suppose I shall take care of explaining the more obscure guests. Carol is the deuteragonist of the Freedom Planet games which was originally gonna be a Sonic fangame until GalaxyTrail decided to carve it’s own identity as a standalone IP. And TLDR, Carol is a former member of a band of thieves called the Red Scarves along with her bestie Lilac and she kicks butt with a bike both as a literal weapon and a ride.
The Prison Break mode is similar to break the targets from smash bros. you can use them for extra points, but you cant also end them immediately if you just want to race. It is actually the 1 player version of battle mode, using the maps from that mode. Battle has you either killing enough of your rivals, or being the first to hold all 7 emeralds at once to win.
I noticed you saying you didnt have any boosts to break through a tripwire while holding a bubble shield. Idk if it's ever actually explained by the game, few things are, but if you hold back while using the bubble shield, it will shoot out behind you and give you a fast enough boost to break tripwires. One top of it being a forwards projectile, a mine that traps racers who run into it, and, like, also a shield, it's probably the most versatile item in the game.
1:01 Carol is from From freedom planet
5:58 also the prison stages are for battle mode

The circle things in the bonus stages is your health, just like the balloons in Mario Karts balloon Battle
Btw I believe there is a "streamer mode" in the options that turns off any copyright stirking music if you're interested.
