I still prefer the original Dreamcast character model for Sonic. The proportions were spot on and his SHOES were perfect. I hate these long clown shoes they gave him in DX.
The Proportions were blocky on the Dreamcast models, while the SADX models look like the game's 2D art, ESPECIALLY the shoes. Just add the Dreamcast shading and they're basically perfect.
One thing I find really funny is how every character gets off the egg carrier. Sonic just chases after Eggman, and takes the fall like a mad lad. Tails grabs Amy and flies both of them off the ship. Knuckles grabs his master emerald shards and the 6 emeralds, and glides back to Angel Island, and Gamma stayed on the ship, and just left through the normal exits later. Now most of them seem, normal, and it is, except Big’s exit. See Sonic and Tails took the Tornado 2 into the Egg Carrier, but neither left on it, so naturally it’s still there. That’s when Big the Cat’s escape plan goes all out. Quite simplify Big the Cat decided to HIJACK THE TORNADO, AND FLY IT BACK TO HIS HOUSE. He pretty much does the most “falling with style” flight ever seen, and safely crashes it by his house. Say what you will about Big, but is certainly not afraid to try new things
Gamma did not stay on the ship, he also left at the same time as Tails and Amy. You can see him activate his flight mode in the cutscene, where a propeller comes out of his torso like when he walks over water. He was ready to fly away. Not gonna lie, I know Sonic and Tails needed to get to the Egg Carrier, but it was incredibly risky using a chaos emerald to power their plane. By the time they arrived, Eggman had obtained the 5th and 6th emeralds from Froggy/Birdie, and that 7th one was right there within reach. Also I agree about Big. He was the first to throw hands with Chaos 6, he deserves respect.
I mean, Shadow Generations was the first game to use humans since Unleashed (aka in 16 years) and that's only because they kinda had to. Colors, Gens, and Lost World had such a miniscule cast of characters that there was no reason to have humans. Forces straight-up replaced them with more animals, and Frontiers once again returned to having a miniscule cast. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's no reason to call it Earth if humans don't make appearances. It's a "why limit to myself to a specific planet when I don't have to" mentality from a writer's perspective. What we need is another large-scale story that isn't restricted to one location (like Frontiers) or a strict cast of characters. Until then, we won't be seeing more humans
Mobius was _never_ canon for any Sonic stuff outside of some of the tv shows, Spinball (which likely takes place in the SATAM 'verse) and some of the comics. In the games, aside from Sonic Spinball, it was never canonically Mobius. SEGA of America used to say all sorts of crazy stuff in the '90s, but some of it has been since disproven or disregarded. Sonic's planet is Earth - albeit a very different take on Earth than our own.
@@GloriousGandalf they never explicitly say the sonic universe takes place on mobius, but the comics clear up the origin of the sonic universe takes place on earth thousands of years in our current future. It’s Mobius for how sonic and pals see it, and earth for how Eggman and the original humans know it for. However sega would ultimately choose to name Sonic’s world as earth instead of Mobius since the Japanese never called it Mobius.
On the matter of who broke the Master Emerald, it's heavily implied Eggman broke the Master Emerald in order to release chaos for his own purposes. He stumbled across the ancient ruin which told of Chaos and his destruction of the Echidna tribe, hence why Eggman mentions Chaos as the god of destruction and why he mentions the stone tablets after he gives Chaos the first chaos emerald.
I always got the impression that no one noticed anything wrong with Sonic and that after Sonic responded to what Knuckles said about Chaos, either Tails made a comment about how bad things could get and/or Knuckles remarked with anger about his shame of losing to Chaos like that and urgently getting up to find Chaos and redeem himself. So he probably rushed off pretty early on. After that, maybe Tails said something like “Wait up!”, “We’ll be right behind you!”, then noticing Sonic is kinda out of it. And/or saying “Let’s go find that last emerald, Sonic! … Uhh… Sonic????” And then noticing his lack of response like “Hey! Earth to Sonic! Are you alright!?” and then Sonic responding like “Wh-wha?”. So from Tails’ perspective, Sonic was just in deep thought and really zoned out like he was day dreaming.
Honestly I never found the story hard to follow. Flawed in certain ways yes, with some minor plot holes, mistranslations, and concepts that were dropped or missed the mark. I personally don't mind the flashbacks filling in tidbits of the backstory piecemeal like they do, and the issue of characters just suddenly appearing somewhere else after the flashback I always assumed they must be in a trance and are just moving to where they need to be next for the sake of the story. One thing that could be changed to make when certain events take place in relation to others is to timestamp each cutscene like in SA2, which would at least help make clear where the beginning of Gamma's story takes place since he has no major world interactions until he leaves the Egg carrier the first time. Furthermore one other thing regarding gamma that could be changed is him randomly showing up in Knuckles' story for him to chase back to Eggman's base. Just swap him out for one of the other E-100 robots in that instance and it'd make more sense. Lastly and more prominently there should be one of 2 possible changes for the setup of the endgame section. 1 - Have Sonic resting somewhere other than the mystic ruins at the beginning of the story... ANGEL ISLAND IS LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND HIM WHEN TAILS NOTES IT FELL AGAIN! HOW COULD YOU MISS THAT?! 2 - Alternatively and much more sensibly have Knuckles' story end with him restoring the master emerald only for the island not to lift off in the first place, thus setting up the cliffhanger for the real ending.
The story isn't hard to follow if you fucking pay attention. It's genuinely so god damn annoying that videos like this exist. "What even IS the plot of Sonic Adventure?" What even IS the plot of any fucking game, jackass? It's not hard to just pay attention.
To be fair and if I recall correctly, a lot of them were seeing the spirit of Tikal so I wanna say that she was guiding them in what to do at some points. (off screen/unconsciously) So therefore, they may not have realized what they were doing and who was around at some points... who's to say they didn't actually fight chaos together at multiple points but not realized it? (Didn't Knuckles and Sonic fight the same version of chaos in the same spot?) There's also a ton of other factors, like them possibly being out in the sun all day without getting water... lmao
Yeah, idk, I was ten when I first played the game and it seemed pretty straight forward. I’m pretty sure I played in order, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Gamma, Big and then SS. It felt like the movie “Go” which I was a huge fan of at the time.
Now Gamma “saving” his siblings may be referring more to the animals that are inside of them. Eggman uses animals as a power source after all and they are released when Gamma defeats them.
I am pretty sure that the robots in SA1 are meant to at least partially share their mind with the animals due to how Gamma reacts when seeing the other two birds and their family picture. In the final story, they even decided to swap out the bird that follows Amy to be the Gamma-bird to give a greater sense of "Every playable character is here".

2:29 The game does explain it. The first cutscene in Knuckles' story is the Egg Carrier coming to Angel Island, then the Master Emerald shatters. When Sonic and Tails beat the Egg Hornet and Eggman feeds Chaos the Emeralds, he states that its "just like the stone tablets predicted". Later, when we see the tablets in Lost World as Sonic, it shows Chaos and the Master Emerald altar. Thus, Eggman saw those tablets. To me, this is enough evidence that Eggman shattered it knowing that Chaos was inside of it, and he planned to control it.
4:35 Also, I think it fits better if Big gets to Station Square on the following day, otherwise it would mean he spent 24 hours in Twinkle Park or Ice Cap. I say this because he only meets Tails in the Mystic Ruins in Tails's second day, after he spent the night in Casinopolis, so at least one day has passed. Meanwhile, Big meets him in his very first night (after Ice Cap). So he either spent an entire day on either Ice Cap or Twinkle Park, or he took 1 day longer to get to Station Square, originally. I think it makes more sense for him to have taken longer to get so Station Square.
@@victorabreu13 You'd be correct, as Big also appears in the Sation Square Adventure Field after Sonic/Tails/Knuckles finishes Casinopolis, where they can interact with him looking for Froggy. A day has passed since Sonic first fought Chaos and Froggy left, so Big would be here on the second day, not the first. Plus, since he appears in Tails' story the night of the second day, he would be at the Twinkle Park stage and not Emerald Coast, marking that appearance as his beginning.

We don't get a timescale for things. So it could have been a localized disaster where Chaos *only* killed all of the strong adult males of that generation, which might result in a severe decline of the civilization, or Chaos spent a few hours doing it himself. Either way, he was doing whatever damage he could.
What is Hidden Palace Zone for? I guess Eggman did too much damage to it and the walls collapsed? I don't get why it's out in the open after it was taken already, you'd think Knuckles would want it in a vault or in a locked cave or something. Wait, why is it disconnected from the rest of Angel Island? Ice Cap Zone was part of the same landmass and the jungle, the waterfall, the ruins, and even Tails sees a desert sandy area similar to Sandopolis once. What caused part of the island to fracture and split apart?
Big’s story actually starts (on the Adventure Fields) after Knuckles beats Chaos 2. After that it’s the morning and Sonic & Tails are looking for eggman after he robbed them a chaos emerald. You can see them playing as Big in the beggining.
Easy story honestly. Because each campaign is easy to follow on their own. And then when you see stuff that’s familiar then you’re like “oh so this is when that happened.” There’s like one or 2 details that are off but they’re so small that you actually don’t register it compared to other character meetups. 1. Chaos breaks out of master emerald, Froggy swallows his tail, Knuckles search for shards, Big search for Froggy, Sonic and Tails meet up after plane crash, look for emeralds but get robbed by Eggman. Knuckles and Sonic get tricked into fighting by Eggman and Team Sonic fights Chaos 4. 2. Introducing Egg Carrier which probably just launched the E-Series. Sonic and Tails chased it but got shot down and Amy finds birdie before meeting up with Sonic. Tails gets Tornado 2 and meets Sonic while trying to save Amy and land in Egg Carrier. 3. Gamma freed Amy and everyone is on Egg Carrier when shit goes down in flames and everyone splits. Eggman launches dud missile, while Gamma dies and Amy reunited the birdies on Egg Carrier crash site. After losing to Tails, Eggman fights Sonic and loses but Chaos gets all the emeralds and fucks the city. Super Sonic beats him and backstory lore is sprinkled throughout. EZ

I mean, they had a whole arc adapting the story of Sonic Adventure in the anime that told it in chronological order, but I dunno how well Sonic X holds up after almost 2 decades.
It doesn't hold up well because the arc from the game is just forced into a continuity that it wasn't meant to be in.(That also happened with the comics to much worse results) In isolation, the Sonic X-version of SA1 is superior to the gameversion in multiple aspects, though the pacing is worse.

It just hit me. Dr. Eggman flew in on his Egg Carrier to Station Square and with all the chaos surrounding the city. You'd think Eggman would have had wanted posters but alas he got away with eventually turning Chaos into Perfect Chaos and Super Sonic was there to save the day. Yet You'd think by SA2 that Eggman would've been wanted, but it never happened and he even destroyed a part of the moon with the Space Colony Ark. I'm seeing the flaws here.
Well we've seen how competent the Station Square Police Department is... I think they knew they weren't up to the challenge :-P G.U.N. in SA2 tho... no excuses for them
gun's best bots just aren't up to taking out eggman in his Walker. Which really helps rebuild his eggcred after getting beat by woodland creatures so many times
Actually, everything is in order in SA2 and people clearly know who he is in SA1 but just very much had no military might because only the police was present(Heck, the Chaos-incident is implied to be why GUN got more active internationally, because they showed up almost everywhere afterwords until Unleashed soft/hardrebooted the IP.). The only issue is that they made no visible attempt to get to the Space Colony, an SA2 remake could easily just show explosions in the background of the ARK-stages and add idle quotes referencing their failing attack to fix this.
I feel like these half baked stories is part of the charm of these older games, it really left it up to your own imagination to fill in the blanks especially as a kid lol

Amy and Gamma together had an entirely separate adventure from everyone else revolving around the birds being turned into robots in classic robotnik fashion. You could cut them out and lose almost nothing. Though I gound Gamma to be fun to play. Big the cat was more of an in game advertisement for Sega Bass Fishing which came out shortly after for the dreamcast. If not for froggy having the egg and Chaos' tail it could be cut too. Knuckles too is pretty much not playing the same game either even though he is kind of the focal point of the story. Only Sonic and Tails even appear to be playing the same game. Knuckles was a nice distraction from the gameplay of Sonic and tails. Gamma was also fun to play. Amy was mostly annoying and big was not a welcome addition even if he was voiced by Duke Nukem.
I’ve never actually seen the ending of Sonic Adventure, but now that I have I totally get why he’s such a wanted criminal in the start of Sonic Adventure 2, you could totally blame all of them for the destroyed city 😂😂😂
the one thing that has driven me utterly insane about this game's plot is one very specific line in Knuckles' story. The temple in the mystic ruins is NOT on Angel Island; Angel Island landing right next to it is just a coincidence, Angel Island separated from the surface from the same spot as the massive crater Eggman set up his base in. And yet, when Knuckles is thrown into a flashback by Tikal and is shown a version of the temple from 3000 years ago, in the original Japanese, Knuckles says he knows that place! He's obviously confused himself as to how, but he recognises the place! In its prime state from 3000 years ago! when there is NO possible way for him to have even seen the current-day version, considering he's been in the sky his whole life and you don't have access to that area of the mystic ruins until later in the story. It felt like they wanted to say something about Knuckles' origins but ended up making it even more baffling.
Are you actually sure that Angel island was where Eggman's base is? Because the exit from the city that leads to the Master emerald(Which is implied to be the same place as angel island due to it having the same outdoors-shrine for the emerald) is actually into the same general direction that Angel island landed at in present day, not in the other direction where Eggman set up everything. Unless I am completely stupid. And Angel Island did infact land once prior(In Sonic 3), which would have given Knuckles some time to explore the surroundings inbetween messing with Sonic and guarding the emeralds. And if we consider Knuckles' Chaotix as canon(Which is still unclear today and may have been expected before Heroes messed with it), he left the island then and may have seen the mystic ruins while flying off the island. And if we consider the ending of Sonic Origin as canon, then...ok, I assume my point is clear at this point.
@@lpfan4491 Angel Island moves around in the sky. Every time it falls, it's in a new location. In S3&K, it was in the middle of the ocean, nowhere near any other landmass, let alone the Mystic Ruins. And, yeah I just opened Sonic Adventure to check and the temple's entrance, the snake head, which should be facing the direction of the Shrine, is opposite the crater. So you're right on that, my bad. In that case I have no idea how the geography matches up lol, I came to the conclusion that the crater was where Angel Island came from bc it felt the most logical. But we can still definitively say that where Angel Island landed in Sonic Adventure is not where it departed from the surface; the broken stone bridge that originally led to the shrine is facing away from the temple, so the orientation is wrong. There is still no possible way that Knuckles would have seen the modern-day version of the temple, and even if he had, he doesn't just voice familiarity, he states that he *knows* it, even if he doesn't know how. I'm not a Japanese speaker, so maybe it's less weird if you know the language, but the way it's been translated in accurate subtitles is really bizarre.

I personally just view it being in the Ocean and then not as a retcon, because the games never actually give the indication that the island moves that much, maybe a distance in a certain radius. But I have no clear answer to this bit, except maybe that the island has some sort of inherit turning around or is not in sync with the movement of the main-planet and thus landed in the wrong orientation.
The physics, cutscenes, and overall presentation is so much better. The original Dreamcast models are superior imo, there a voice line button for every stage your in. A lot of unused stuff that got taken out in the directors cut. The directors cut is my least favorite version.
Thank you for this, I just finished the game but had done Amy’s story way before Gamma’s, who I did last, so I completely forgot that they reunite with their son at the end of hers.

I absolutely loved this game!!! Had it on Dreamcast and was blown away with the interconnected story!!! I honestly wish more games did this! I had never played a game that literally allows you to assume the full experience of 6 unique characters rather than just playing the same game with a different character! It was amazing!! I would love to see a superhero base game with this approach. You’re not just playing the same levels with a different character but like sonic Adventures as you cross paths with the other characters they become playable. When you play then you actually start before you crossed paths and actually experience the full game from their unique perspective! Maybe one someone will tackle it! Great video!!! Brought back memories!! 😀
Eggman finds an ancient water monster and tries to use its power to rule the world, the monster remembers what happened to him and his friends and betrays Eggman to destroy the world, then the funny blue Sonic character turns SSGSS and cranks 90’s on Aquaman. The end.
I burned so many hours playing this game when I was like…15? 16? It came out when I was a freshman in high school so like…yeah. I personally loved the moment where Knuckles was like, “Where’s Eggman’s base?” And Gamma literally falls from the sky. Warts and all, this is still one of my favorites and I look forward to seeing the follow up for this video. Peace!

Makes you wonder, if Eggman was as smart as he claims to be, why not use his inventions to make a lot of money, buy some land and then legally build Eggmanland. Not even Sonic could stop him if he did this. Heck, if Eggman could build all of these inventions, how does he fund it? He could easily use said funds to buy the land and build Eggmanland.
Yeah, it's a bit confusing, but I say it was still a pretty good first attempt on Sonic's first main line story. I just love how all the stories come together and other characters bumping into each other. And seeing through each prospective on how it all happened. When I was a kid, I never saw any video game doing stories like this. Even looking back on it, it's still pretty cool. Sonic Adventure is MY absolute favorite Sonic game. Is it perfect? No, not at all. But for Sonic's first 3D game and my huge nostalgia for it, it's the best!

I never thought the plot to this was hard to follow, even as a kid. It's told in snippets through several character perspectives but it's pretty simple; ancient water god of Chaos is mad because his chao buddies and the master emerald were abused back in the day, he destroyed the echidna tribe and is why they're mostly extinct, was sealed away by Tikal, in the modern day Eggman unleashes him and tries to use the ancient powerful being to take over the world, collects and feeds it chaos emeralds to fully power the beast, it inevitably doesn't go the way Eggman intended, you beat up Chaos and save the day. Add in subplots of Amy, Gamma and the bird family.
"If you haven't figured it out, the sound mixing was really bad, even in the DX version" A more appropriate thing to say would be "ESPECIALLY in the DX version." I've heard the original Dreamcast release didn't have this issue, that it was introduced in the ports. On PC there's even a mod to fix it and the mod claims it specifically is trying to make the game more like the Dreamcast original. Incidentally there's also a fan-made "retranslation" that is closer to the Japanese script. It only affects the subtitles, not the dubbing. I've only played a bit though and so far found the differences to be minor. Both these points go for SA2 as well by the way.
Tails doesn't get an emerald from Froggy? He finds it in a desert in a Sandboarding level along with Froggy. Later in the story Chaos has 6 emeralds inside of him with the 7th still being in Tails's plane, so the emerald froggy had inside of him had to be different. Yeah, it's not really explained well cause for some inexplicable reason Tails had Froggy with him after the Sandboarding stage. Probably to have that creepy ass scene with big idk lol.
IMO the story of the first game is a lot easier to understand because of it's slow pace and different perspectives depending on the character you play. Obviously they tried to pick up the pace but they made it too fast on the second game, while making the story's order confusing.
The biggest , most wacky plot hole I can think of is when Eggman tries to blow himself up TWICE , after we just saw his Eggpod having problems. And before you say that he a powerful shield that he can only use in neutral mode. It's not IF the missile explodes , it's WHAT the missile explodes. When you get buried under a 4 story building , doesn't matter if your shield works. Granted , I have thought something that corrects this. But it's pointless now , Sega will keep moving forward without remastering their mess.
This story doesnt feel too wacky to me. As a child of the 90s, Sonic Adventure feels as cool as if not cooler than the previous games (cause of the voices). Like... Gamma has such a heart wrenching story in the middle of Big looking for a frog and Knuckles being aloof. It does feel like the world of Sonic is much much bigger than the player can ever see given how the characters act. It's as though they have a myriad of personal motivations and convictions detached from the game itself.
You know, that’s a good point! I don’t think there is really any evidence of when Gamma’s story starts, and I based it off feel. With how little Gamma knows about the world, it seems like he’s very “new,” so I guess that’s how I came up with that. Does make Eggman seem like the busiest person alive though, he accomplishes more in those few days than I did all of last year!
All these years and I never knew about the secret final boss, Chaos 7! Probably cause I found it too boring to play as Big the Cat abd complete his story 😂 Thanks for making this video!
The plot sure is the plot, yeah. Doesn't mean that it's good. Also, this is a fun game....not just SA1, but deleting comments to erase mine too because you probably didn't like what I said. Any particular reason for doing so?
I think a better name for the last two chapters would be “the final showdown” and “the wrap up” as I feel these titles fit what’s happening in those two chapters (the final showdown being Sonic and Tails finale confrontation with Eggman and the wrap being Amy and Gamma getting a satisfying conclusion).
Another thing to point out is that while the game doesn't show this, Froggy ate a piece of chaos which was his tail which was why Chaos needed Froggy to be "complete". This is also the reason why Froggy acts weird and runs away from Big. This was more clearly shown in Sonic X. I will continue to explain these things as I watch the video lol, as to how I know all of this, let's just say I'm the only one on the planet that actually understands what is happening in these games.
Gonna be totally frank with you. It was a total shot in the dark that story. Just do something, we already have a shit failure of a system, no need to take it seriously. And this is made even more evident when you do enough digging to find out they initially wanted to make Sonic Adventure an RPG. It was like, one of the few hits on the Dreamcast and they felt very obligated to follow it up with SA2, which has very little mention to the events of SA1. Not nothing, but the two do feel night and day storywise and in appearance. Also, a bit off topic, but when my older brother was a kid him and his friends got consoles for Christmas. My brother got the N64. His friend, we'll call him Creepy Kevin, got a Playstation. With that exposition alone you know the next kid got a shit Christmas. Joel got the Dreamcast. And yes, that was his actual name, but if you want you can pretend he's THAT Joel, Swedish man. Anyways, Joel had a not so great home life, his family was Christian, and sometime after Christmas he blew up their Church bus with a plastic bag of gasoline. To this day I jokingly refer to that by saying "What Crazy Taxi does to a mfer."
I still prefer the original Dreamcast character model for Sonic. The proportions were spot on and his SHOES were perfect. I hate these long clown shoes they gave him in DX.

One thing I find really funny is how every character gets off the egg carrier. Sonic just chases after Eggman, and takes the fall like a mad lad. Tails grabs Amy and flies both of them off the ship. Knuckles grabs his master emerald shards and the 6 emeralds, and glides back to Angel Island, and Gamma stayed on the ship, and just left through the normal exits later. Now most of them seem, normal, and it is, except Big’s exit. See Sonic and Tails took the Tornado 2 into the Egg Carrier, but neither left on it, so naturally it’s still there. That’s when Big the Cat’s escape plan goes all out. Quite simplify Big the Cat decided to HIJACK THE TORNADO, AND FLY IT BACK TO HIS HOUSE. He pretty much does the most “falling with style” flight ever seen, and safely crashes it by his house. Say what you will about Big, but is certainly not afraid to try new things
Gamma did not stay on the ship, he also left at the same time as Tails and Amy. You can see him activate his flight mode in the cutscene, where a propeller comes out of his torso like when he walks over water. He was ready to fly away. Not gonna lie, I know Sonic and Tails needed to get to the Egg Carrier, but it was incredibly risky using a chaos emerald to power their plane. By the time they arrived, Eggman had obtained the 5th and 6th emeralds from Froggy/Birdie, and that 7th one was right there within reach.
Also I agree about Big. He was the first to throw hands with Chaos 6, he deserves respect.

Sonic Adventure 1,2 and Unleashed made it clear that they live on Planet Earth. But recently they just don't name the planet anymore.
The Genesis games never quite stablished they were on any other types of planet tbh
I mean, Shadow Generations was the first game to use humans since Unleashed (aka in 16 years) and that's only because they kinda had to. Colors, Gens, and Lost World had such a miniscule cast of characters that there was no reason to have humans. Forces straight-up replaced them with more animals, and Frontiers once again returned to having a miniscule cast. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's no reason to call it Earth if humans don't make appearances. It's a "why limit to myself to a specific planet when I don't have to" mentality from a writer's perspective. What we need is another large-scale story that isn't restricted to one location (like Frontiers) or a strict cast of characters. Until then, we won't be seeing more humans

Mobius was _never_ canon for any Sonic stuff outside of some of the tv shows, Spinball (which likely takes place in the SATAM 'verse) and some of the comics. In the games, aside from Sonic Spinball, it was never canonically Mobius. SEGA of America used to say all sorts of crazy stuff in the '90s, but some of it has been since disproven or disregarded. Sonic's planet is Earth - albeit a very different take on Earth than our own.

It’s Mobius for how sonic and pals see it, and earth for how Eggman and the original humans know it for. However sega would ultimately choose to name Sonic’s world as earth instead of Mobius since the Japanese never called it Mobius.
On the matter of who broke the Master Emerald, it's heavily implied Eggman broke the Master Emerald in order to release chaos for his own purposes. He stumbled across the ancient ruin which told of Chaos and his destruction of the Echidna tribe, hence why Eggman mentions Chaos as the god of destruction and why he mentions the stone tablets after he gives Chaos the first chaos emerald.
Is not implied, is confirmed. In the first cutscene in Knuckles story, the Egg-Carrier can be seen going to Angel Island in the movie like sequence.

It's arguably funnier in the Sonic X version since Sonic and Knuckles both wind up in the final vision.
I always got the impression that no one noticed anything wrong with Sonic and that after Sonic responded to what Knuckles said about Chaos, either Tails made a comment about how bad things could get and/or Knuckles remarked with anger about his shame of losing to Chaos like that and urgently getting up to find Chaos and redeem himself. So he probably rushed off pretty early on. After that, maybe Tails said something like “Wait up!”, “We’ll be right behind you!”, then noticing Sonic is kinda out of it. And/or saying “Let’s go find that last emerald, Sonic! … Uhh… Sonic????” And then noticing his lack of response like “Hey! Earth to Sonic! Are you alright!?” and then Sonic responding like “Wh-wha?”. So from Tails’ perspective, Sonic was just in deep thought and really zoned out like he was day dreaming.

Honestly I never found the story hard to follow. Flawed in certain ways yes, with some minor plot holes, mistranslations, and concepts that were dropped or missed the mark. I personally don't mind the flashbacks filling in tidbits of the backstory piecemeal like they do, and the issue of characters just suddenly appearing somewhere else after the flashback I always assumed they must be in a trance and are just moving to where they need to be next for the sake of the story.
One thing that could be changed to make when certain events take place in relation to others is to timestamp each cutscene like in SA2, which would at least help make clear where the beginning of Gamma's story takes place since he has no major world interactions until he leaves the Egg carrier the first time. Furthermore one other thing regarding gamma that could be changed is him randomly showing up in Knuckles' story for him to chase back to Eggman's base. Just swap him out for one of the other E-100 robots in that instance and it'd make more sense.
Lastly and more prominently there should be one of 2 possible changes for the setup of the endgame section. 1 - Have Sonic resting somewhere other than the mystic ruins at the beginning of the story... ANGEL ISLAND IS LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND HIM WHEN TAILS NOTES IT FELL AGAIN! HOW COULD YOU MISS THAT?! 2 - Alternatively and much more sensibly have Knuckles' story end with him restoring the master emerald only for the island not to lift off in the first place, thus setting up the cliffhanger for the real ending.
The story isn't hard to follow if you fucking pay attention. It's genuinely so god damn annoying that videos like this exist. "What even IS the plot of Sonic Adventure?" What even IS the plot of any fucking game, jackass? It's not hard to just pay attention.
To be fair and if I recall correctly, a lot of them were seeing the spirit of Tikal so I wanna say that she was guiding them in what to do at some points. (off screen/unconsciously) So therefore, they may not have realized what they were doing and who was around at some points... who's to say they didn't actually fight chaos together at multiple points but not realized it? (Didn't Knuckles and Sonic fight the same version of chaos in the same spot?)
There's also a ton of other factors, like them possibly being out in the sun all day without getting water... lmao
Yeah, idk, I was ten when I first played the game and it seemed pretty straight forward. I’m pretty sure I played in order, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Gamma, Big and then SS. It felt like the movie “Go” which I was a huge fan of at the time.
Now Gamma “saving” his siblings may be referring more to the animals that are inside of them. Eggman uses animals as a power source after all and they are released when Gamma defeats them.
I am pretty sure that the robots in SA1 are meant to at least partially share their mind with the animals due to how Gamma reacts when seeing the other two birds and their family picture. In the final story, they even decided to swap out the bird that follows Amy to be the Gamma-bird to give a greater sense of "Every playable character is here".

The first cutscene in Knuckles' story is the Egg Carrier coming to Angel Island, then the Master Emerald shatters.
When Sonic and Tails beat the Egg Hornet and Eggman feeds Chaos the Emeralds, he states that its "just like the stone tablets predicted".
Later, when we see the tablets in Lost World as Sonic, it shows Chaos and the Master Emerald altar. Thus, Eggman saw those tablets.
To me, this is enough evidence that Eggman shattered it knowing that Chaos was inside of it, and he planned to control it.

So he either spent an entire day on either Ice Cap or Twinkle Park, or he took 1 day longer to get to Station Square, originally. I think it makes more sense for him to have taken longer to get so Station Square.

A day has passed since Sonic first fought Chaos and Froggy left, so Big would be here on the second day, not the first. Plus, since he appears in Tails' story the night of the second day, he would be at the Twinkle Park stage and not Emerald Coast, marking that appearance as his beginning.

We don't get a timescale for things. So it could have been a localized disaster where Chaos *only* killed all of the strong adult males of that generation, which might result in a severe decline of the civilization, or Chaos spent a few hours doing it himself. Either way, he was doing whatever damage he could.
What is Hidden Palace Zone for? I guess Eggman did too much damage to it and the walls collapsed? I don't get why it's out in the open after it was taken already, you'd think Knuckles would want it in a vault or in a locked cave or something.
Wait, why is it disconnected from the rest of Angel Island? Ice Cap Zone was part of the same landmass and the jungle, the waterfall, the ruins, and even Tails sees a desert sandy area similar to Sandopolis once. What caused part of the island to fracture and split apart?
Big’s story actually starts (on the Adventure Fields) after Knuckles beats Chaos 2. After that it’s the morning and Sonic & Tails are looking for eggman after he robbed them a chaos emerald. You can see them playing as Big in the beggining.

Easy story honestly. Because each campaign is easy to follow on their own. And then when you see stuff that’s familiar then you’re like “oh so this is when that happened.” There’s like one or 2 details that are off but they’re so small that you actually don’t register it compared to other character meetups.

Chaos breaks out of master emerald, Froggy swallows his tail, Knuckles search for shards, Big search for Froggy, Sonic and Tails meet up after plane crash, look for emeralds but get robbed by Eggman. Knuckles and Sonic get tricked into fighting by Eggman and Team Sonic fights Chaos 4.

Introducing Egg Carrier which probably just launched the E-Series. Sonic and Tails chased it but got shot down and Amy finds birdie before meeting up with Sonic. Tails gets Tornado 2 and meets Sonic while trying to save Amy and land in Egg Carrier.

Gamma freed Amy and everyone is on Egg Carrier when shit goes down in flames and everyone splits. Eggman launches dud missile, while Gamma dies and Amy reunited the birdies on Egg Carrier crash site. After losing to Tails, Eggman fights Sonic and loses but Chaos gets all the emeralds and fucks the city. Super Sonic beats him and backstory lore is sprinkled throughout.

I mean, they had a whole arc adapting the story of Sonic Adventure in the anime that told it in chronological order, but I dunno how well Sonic X holds up after almost 2 decades.
It doesn't hold up well because the arc from the game is just forced into a continuity that it wasn't meant to be in.(That also happened with the comics to much worse results) In isolation, the Sonic X-version of SA1 is superior to the gameversion in multiple aspects, though the pacing is worse.

It just hit me. Dr. Eggman flew in on his Egg Carrier to Station Square and with all the chaos surrounding the city. You'd think Eggman would have had wanted posters but alas he got away with eventually turning Chaos into Perfect Chaos and Super Sonic was there to save the day.
Yet You'd think by SA2 that Eggman would've been wanted, but it never happened and he even destroyed a part of the moon with the Space Colony Ark. I'm seeing the flaws here.
Well we've seen how competent the Station Square Police Department is... I think they knew they weren't up to the challenge :-P

gun's best bots just aren't up to taking out eggman in his Walker. Which really helps rebuild his eggcred after getting beat by woodland creatures so many times
Actually, everything is in order in SA2 and people clearly know who he is in SA1 but just very much had no military might because only the police was present(Heck, the Chaos-incident is implied to be why GUN got more active internationally, because they showed up almost everywhere afterwords until Unleashed soft/hardrebooted the IP.).
The only issue is that they made no visible attempt to get to the Space Colony, an SA2 remake could easily just show explosions in the background of the ARK-stages and add idle quotes referencing their failing attack to fix this.
I feel like these half baked stories is part of the charm of these older games, it really left it up to your own imagination to fill in the blanks especially as a kid lol

Amy and Gamma together had an entirely separate adventure from everyone else revolving around the birds being turned into robots in classic robotnik fashion. You could cut them out and lose almost nothing. Though I gound Gamma to be fun to play.
Big the cat was more of an in game advertisement for Sega Bass Fishing which came out shortly after for the dreamcast. If not for froggy having the egg and Chaos' tail it could be cut too.
Knuckles too is pretty much not playing the same game either even though he is kind of the focal point of the story.
Only Sonic and Tails even appear to be playing the same game. Knuckles was a nice distraction from the gameplay of Sonic and tails. Gamma was also fun to play. Amy was mostly annoying and big was not a welcome addition even if he was voiced by Duke Nukem.

the one thing that has driven me utterly insane about this game's plot is one very specific line in Knuckles' story. The temple in the mystic ruins is NOT on Angel Island; Angel Island landing right next to it is just a coincidence, Angel Island separated from the surface from the same spot as the massive crater Eggman set up his base in. And yet, when Knuckles is thrown into a flashback by Tikal and is shown a version of the temple from 3000 years ago, in the original Japanese, Knuckles says he knows that place! He's obviously confused himself as to how, but he recognises the place! In its prime state from 3000 years ago! when there is NO possible way for him to have even seen the current-day version, considering he's been in the sky his whole life and you don't have access to that area of the mystic ruins until later in the story. It felt like they wanted to say something about Knuckles' origins but ended up making it even more baffling.
Are you actually sure that Angel island was where Eggman's base is? Because the exit from the city that leads to the Master emerald(Which is implied to be the same place as angel island due to it having the same outdoors-shrine for the emerald) is actually into the same general direction that Angel island landed at in present day, not in the other direction where Eggman set up everything. Unless I am completely stupid.
And Angel Island did infact land once prior(In Sonic 3), which would have given Knuckles some time to explore the surroundings inbetween messing with Sonic and guarding the emeralds. And if we consider Knuckles' Chaotix as canon(Which is still unclear today and may have been expected before Heroes messed with it), he left the island then and may have seen the mystic ruins while flying off the island. And if we consider the ending of Sonic Origin as canon, then...ok, I assume my point is clear at this point.
@@lpfan4491 Angel Island moves around in the sky. Every time it falls, it's in a new location. In S3&K, it was in the middle of the ocean, nowhere near any other landmass, let alone the Mystic Ruins.
And, yeah I just opened Sonic Adventure to check and the temple's entrance, the snake head, which should be facing the direction of the Shrine, is opposite the crater. So you're right on that, my bad. In that case I have no idea how the geography matches up lol, I came to the conclusion that the crater was where Angel Island came from bc it felt the most logical.
But we can still definitively say that where Angel Island landed in Sonic Adventure is not where it departed from the surface; the broken stone bridge that originally led to the shrine is facing away from the temple, so the orientation is wrong.
There is still no possible way that Knuckles would have seen the modern-day version of the temple, and even if he had, he doesn't just voice familiarity, he states that he *knows* it, even if he doesn't know how. I'm not a Japanese speaker, so maybe it's less weird if you know the language, but the way it's been translated in accurate subtitles is really bizarre.

Oh...oops. I personally just view it being in the Ocean and then not as a retcon, because the games never actually give the indication that the island moves that much, maybe a distance in a certain radius.
But I have no clear answer to this bit, except maybe that the island has some sort of inherit turning around or is not in sync with the movement of the main-planet and thus landed in the wrong orientation.

The physics, cutscenes, and overall presentation is so much better. The original Dreamcast models are superior imo, there a voice line button for every stage your in. A lot of unused stuff that got taken out in the directors cut. The directors cut is my least favorite version.

I absolutely loved this game!!! Had it on Dreamcast and was blown away with the interconnected story!!! I honestly wish more games did this! I had never played a game that literally allows you to assume the full experience of 6 unique characters rather than just playing the same game with a different character! It was amazing!! I would love to see a superhero base game with this approach. You’re not just playing the same levels with a different character but like sonic Adventures as you cross paths with the other characters they become playable. When you play then you actually start before you crossed paths and actually experience the full game from their unique perspective! Maybe one someone will tackle it! Great video!!! Brought back memories!! 😀

Makes me cry, knowing people are still talking about my favorite sonic game in 2022
I burned so many hours playing this game when I was like…15? 16? It came out when I was a freshman in high school so like…yeah.
I personally loved the moment where Knuckles was like, “Where’s Eggman’s base?” And Gamma literally falls from the sky.
Warts and all, this is still one of my favorites and I look forward to seeing the follow up for this video. Peace!

Makes you wonder, if Eggman was as smart as he claims to be, why not use his inventions to make a lot of money, buy some land and then legally build Eggmanland. Not even Sonic could stop him if he did this.
Heck, if Eggman could build all of these inventions, how does he fund it? He could easily use said funds to buy the land and build Eggmanland.
If I think about it, Sonic, Knuckle, & Gamma seem to be the most plot important characters in the grand scheme of things

tails also WAS the hero of station square, the one time in the games he had an achievement like sonic.
Yeah, it's a bit confusing, but I say it was still a pretty good first attempt on Sonic's first main line story. I just love how all the stories come together and other characters bumping into each other. And seeing through each prospective on how it all happened. When I was a kid, I never saw any video game doing stories like this. Even looking back on it, it's still pretty cool. Sonic Adventure is MY absolute favorite Sonic game. Is it perfect? No, not at all. But for Sonic's first 3D game and my huge nostalgia for it, it's the best!

I never thought the plot to this was hard to follow, even as a kid. It's told in snippets through several character perspectives but it's pretty simple; ancient water god of Chaos is mad because his chao buddies and the master emerald were abused back in the day, he destroyed the echidna tribe and is why they're mostly extinct, was sealed away by Tikal, in the modern day Eggman unleashes him and tries to use the ancient powerful being to take over the world, collects and feeds it chaos emeralds to fully power the beast, it inevitably doesn't go the way Eggman intended, you beat up Chaos and save the day. Add in subplots of Amy, Gamma and the bird family.
The stone tablets foretelling chaos is actually seen in sonic 3 and knuckles as a mural

A more appropriate thing to say would be "ESPECIALLY in the DX version." I've heard the original Dreamcast release didn't have this issue, that it was introduced in the ports. On PC there's even a mod to fix it and the mod claims it specifically is trying to make the game more like the Dreamcast original.
Incidentally there's also a fan-made "retranslation" that is closer to the Japanese script. It only affects the subtitles, not the dubbing. I've only played a bit though and so far found the differences to be minor.
Both these points go for SA2 as well by the way.

Tails doesn't get an emerald from Froggy? He finds it in a desert in a Sandboarding level along with Froggy. Later in the story Chaos has 6 emeralds inside of him with the 7th still being in Tails's plane, so the emerald froggy had inside of him had to be different. Yeah, it's not really explained well cause for some inexplicable reason Tails had Froggy with him after the Sandboarding stage. Probably to have that creepy ass scene with big idk lol.

IMO the story of the first game is a lot easier to understand because of it's slow pace and different perspectives depending on the character you play. Obviously they tried to pick up the pace but they made it too fast on the second game, while making the story's order confusing.

The biggest , most wacky plot hole I can think of is when Eggman tries to blow himself up TWICE , after we just saw his Eggpod having problems.
And before you say that he a powerful shield that he can only use in neutral mode.
It's not IF the missile explodes , it's WHAT the missile explodes.
When you get buried under a 4 story building , doesn't matter if your shield works.
Granted , I have thought something that corrects this.
But it's pointless now , Sega will keep moving forward without remastering their mess.
This story doesnt feel too wacky to me. As a child of the 90s, Sonic Adventure feels as cool as if not cooler than the previous games (cause of the voices). Like... Gamma has such a heart wrenching story in the middle of Big looking for a frog and Knuckles being aloof. It does feel like the world of Sonic is much much bigger than the player can ever see given how the characters act. It's as though they have a myriad of personal motivations and convictions detached from the game itself.
How do you know when Gamma’s story starts?
You know, that’s a good point! I don’t think there is really any evidence of when Gamma’s story starts, and I based it off feel. With how little Gamma knows about the world, it seems like he’s very “new,” so I guess that’s how I came up with that. Does make Eggman seem like the busiest person alive though, he accomplishes more in those few days than I did all of last year!
All these years and I never knew about the secret final boss, Chaos 7! Probably cause I found it too boring to play as Big the Cat abd complete his story 😂

For people who went to the comments before watching this I recommend watching at a speed of 1.5 or above it makes it so much funnier 😂
I think a better name for the last two chapters would be “the final showdown” and “the wrap up” as I feel these titles fit what’s happening in those two chapters (the final showdown being Sonic and Tails finale confrontation with Eggman and the wrap being Amy and Gamma getting a satisfying conclusion).

Another thing to point out is that while the game doesn't show this, Froggy ate a piece of chaos which was his tail which was why Chaos needed Froggy to be "complete". This is also the reason why Froggy acts weird and runs away from Big. This was more clearly shown in Sonic X. I will continue to explain these things as I watch the video lol, as to how I know all of this, let's just say I'm the only one on the planet that actually understands what is happening in these games.

Gonna be totally frank with you. It was a total shot in the dark that story. Just do something, we already have a shit failure of a system, no need to take it seriously.
And this is made even more evident when you do enough digging to find out they initially wanted to make Sonic Adventure an RPG. It was like, one of the few hits on the Dreamcast and they felt very obligated to follow it up with SA2, which has very little mention to the events of SA1. Not nothing, but the two do feel night and day storywise and in appearance.
Also, a bit off topic, but when my older brother was a kid him and his friends got consoles for Christmas. My brother got the N64. His friend, we'll call him Creepy Kevin, got a Playstation. With that exposition alone you know the next kid got a shit Christmas. Joel got the Dreamcast. And yes, that was his actual name, but if you want you can pretend he's THAT Joel, Swedish man. Anyways, Joel had a not so great home life, his family was Christian, and sometime after Christmas he blew up their Church bus with a plastic bag of gasoline. To this day I jokingly refer to that by saying "What Crazy Taxi does to a mfer."
