@ I haven’t been paid a penny but if trying to have a pop at someone makes you feel better about yourself then so be it. I’d recommend therapy though, you’re only upsetting yourself
What is stage 1 and 2 etc? I was on the understanding the only way to really tune a car once added supporting mods is to do it live on a dyno otherwise you are just downloading a generic map still not one speciffically designed for you car?
I remember as a kid superchips popping up, back at the start of car remapping so have always found it interesting
pretty sure they were the first, i vaguely remember reading a story that the founder was originally a washing machine repair guy and realised his cars ecu used the same eeproms as washing machine programme boards, his equipment all worked on var ecu still... you then bought a pre flashed eeprom to install into ecu
Honestly a bad idea.. you’re giving yourself more headache down the line when people have issues with cars you sell. Personally I’d also avoid maps that don’t have a rolling road printout as there can be issues on the test runs that one of these maps won’t detect without the live graph/rolling road. Not trying to be downer, just think it’s something you should think about again before jumping in as I can see you regretting it.
Did he not say he would use it to make sure the cars he sells are not remapped??
As long as he lets people know and they sign a disclaimer it’s all good 👍 don’t have to have a power map there choices for eco maps aswell
Rolling road is not the gold standard. The dyno is a tool to see power increase. The logging of the engine parameters, which can be done on road, is what matters.
don't put others off because 'personally' this isn't for you, just skip on by, simples.
@ I agree it’s like he wants him to fail and to be fair most people know the risks of remapping
A major point in this has been lost in translation i think. The initial and primary idea is to help car dealers make sure cars are going out without a tune on. This is quite a big issue for car dealers at the moment. A growing trend in the tuning industry are car dealers making sure they are not sending cars out with tunes and deletes.
I had a plug and play I fitted to my 102bhp 2.5tdi VWT4, 1999 vintage. 3 kids camping gear, bikes and towed a caravan. The tuning box in its day was £150. It absolutely transformed the van for that purpose it was used for. Had to take it off for MOT because smoked a bit. Did 300k before it was sold. For me it’s a good experience but I know people who have not been so lucky. Re maps do not have to be purely for power but can be changed for economy or torque for towing
It’s great when you re-map my son had his focus ST mapped and it made a huge difference to the power and sound
Insurance companies have got wise to ecu mapping if your involved in a accident and haven't told them they will 100% void your insurance when they scan the ecu talking from experience
What car did you write off and how much did they refuse to pay out?
@@nickieo Exactly, they don't even look at the cars in person anymore or categorise the write offs properly they just look at pictures and decide, writing cars off for damaged bumpers and dents. That's why everybody's insurance has gone up.
They can’t tell for several reasons (only a stage 1) the ecu doesn’t say “mapped” for example. Secondly they don’t have time for that, the cars go to garage then onto copart which we buy from, they now have AI doing write off categories for them. They may have insinuated to you you had it mapped as a reason to try not to pay out then you coughed up, or they lied. They cannot see that oh x y z has put a map on here.
@@KeyBrosUKnot true they can definitely tell. Just as easy as this guy said he could tell if it had been mapped before he looked at it.
@ he didn’t say that he said he could see if the ecu had been unlocked which is my point
This video is just a advert.
I Learned to sell timeshare in UNDER 30 MINUTES and You Can Too!
@Silver3ides Timeshare. What is this 1990's
My car was remapped 5 years and 60k ago, done for towing and economy, perfectly reliable and affordable
Had a Megan 230 chipped a few years ago. It was supposed to take it from 230 bhp to 280bhp. I couldn't tell any difference. When I complained I was told the power would come in gradually after a few hundred miles. Never saw any difference! So to me it was a complete waste of money. Over the years it occurred to me that if I'd have told my Insurance my premium would have increased for nothing and if I had not told them and had a serious accident the insurance would have been void. If by some chance I'd have killed someone, I dread to think of the consequences. So would I do it again..... I'll let you go figure. I've now bought a TVR 4.5L CERBERA Red Rose. It definitely doesn't need any upgrade.
Having previously mapped many of my FFRR over the years, it seems you've picked a solid tuning company to work with.
Good onya Joe. I think many people are completely missing the point. This is a simple system to moderately help with power, performance and economy (yup, check out your mpg, bet it's improved) for a reasonable price. For those that want a complete re-map and take an engine and g/box (to within an inch of its life) then of course you'll be taking it to a specialist with a rolling road etc. We all know how much THAT costs. And yes, advise the insurance company blah blah. Lighten up people, Joe's just giving folks another string to their bow as and when required 😉
Lots of small 3 cyclinder turbo petrol engines love a remap.
Had our old 2017 kia rio 1.0 (99bhp) mapped to a solid 140bhp with matching inctease in torque.
Turned the car from so so to a fiesta chaser. All for £299.
I thought you must be joking there, but no ! lol
The fiesta Eco boost 1.0 responds well to remap, but the gearboxes give out cause they're made of chocolate🤣
Do not remap a car that's still within manufacture warranty or not tell your insurance company. Both these are null and void if you mess it up!!!
That pretty much one of the most obvious things ever
No, use a different ECU for a car in warranty. Don’t tell your insurance it’s pointless, unless you have mods on there anyway which most of us do.
Ohhh look at his happy face....he did a thing, bless him 😂🕺
Great info .
All the best with this Joe , it's a great idea and I think you will do very well with it .
It’s great I ve been doing it for 3 years never had any issues and with a well known company
Long time follower of your channel and watched over 50% of all your stuff now
This video though i think is going to come back and bite you in the ass a bit.
With the greatest respect......you didnt "learn" how to remap in less than 30 minutes!!
What you have actually done is follow instructions from someone and became an "basic expert" with support. Your knowledge of what you actually did is limited to what you were told and what you experienced when you stuck your foot down.
I was actually thinking of having my Golf remapped and was excited when this video dropped (was one of the recalled ones due to the efficiency con from VW and has ran "delayed" since they "fixed" it)......but i wouldnt trust you to do it based on this video and visible 30 minutes training.
Good luck though fella....just be carefull out there.
What a great bit of kit. Fascinating video ☺️.
I had a plug in chip box for my Megane 1.5dci. Great piece of kit. Made it accelerate much smoother and faster and I didn’t notice any difference in fuel economy
Brilliant vlog enjoyed it immensely 👍
With the greatest respect, writing/uploading a slave file to the ECU of any car isn't remapping in any way shape or form. Remapping is all the work that goes into creating the master file for each vehicle. Adjusting all the relevant calibrations from the information gleaned via real-time data logs from an individual vehicle is remapping.
I'm not demeaning what you are doing, and so long as the correct process is followed you won't be bricking anyone's ECU, the customer gets what they want and you're making money. I have no issues with any of that whatsoever, you are providing a service and adding value to your business but you cannot call what you are doing remapping. Sorry to be pedantic but it is what it is. I wish you all the best.👍
I'm sure you're right but ' writing a a file to a file to an ecu' isn't quite as catchy
I have no idea why anyone would go to a place for an OTS map. Only custom map your cars people. But I do wish you well though ofc. Debbie downer here😅
I went to a back street turner in Sheffield years ago when I had an old audi a6. He charged me £200 in the following 6 months I blew up 3 intercoolers, safe to say I got rid.
Unfortunately I lost my trust in mapping. Fast forward 4yrs I had the best car I've ever owned (a 530 bmw n57 engine) I had a few glow plug and module issues. I decided to take it to Darkside Developments in grimethorpe for work, I opted for a stage 1 map, glow plugs, module, swirl flaps removed and the inlet side walnut blasting.
This absolutely transformed the car in to something special. I owned the car for many years after and it never skipped beat.
Lesson learnt, go to a reputable tuner who knows their stuff.
@@Ianboid68Cool story.
This will lead you to a load of trouble. Re mapping is an art using a dyno over multiple runs fine tuning to get the balance between power and torque not just plugging in a box and there you go. You also have no idea of the state of the engine your working on
I was doing this back in 2013 ish, was good fun, just got so saturated, I was using the kess and dimsport, good money to be made if you can get it.
When your up and running joe let me know, I’ll bring my car up for a tune
Good learning stuff and useful info too. Same engines are sharing by different manufacturer for example Ford and Volvo, Porsche and Touareg, Mini and Peugeot etc etc, many examples there, if they share same engine and tweaking some components selling as different car, why remap will be always harmful? My understanding is Engine manufacturer allows us to do some modifications, and thus these people doing, now if I want Porsche spec in Mini cooper body that will blow my engine out, but same series of (engine code wise) I can enhance its performance by my own taste. In many aspect this type of software quite handy if anyone buying and selling cars, not just rev up for speeding Thank you Joe for sharing
A remap can give improved fuel economy too.
Might be another angle to highlight here Joe as not everybody will be interested in improved power!
That went totally over my head !!!!!
Excellent video joe,and what a difference.
Love all your vids buddy, this guy might have been speaking Hebrew for all I understood!! Guess I'll have to stick to putting new points and plugs in for my tuning 😅😅😅
So remapping the car invalidates the warranty? Not brilliant business is it? Perhaps I’m mistaken but dealerships prefer to remove any remapping?
I genuinely don’t get why so many people feel the need to try and piss on joes videos with they’re “know it all” opinions and coming out with comments like “you need to tell your insurers “ like they are the only people that know these facts , you must be some seriously boring people
Couldn't agree with you more!!!
@@yommonaghan785 Are you saying people shouldn’t tell their insurance?
@ no, no where did I write that, I’m saying, it’s pretty common knowledge and dosent need 50 replies saying the same thing from people acting like they are an oracle and are the only person that knows the laws.
I clearly wrote that telling insurers is a fact, but dosent need everyone writing the same shit
@yommonaghan785 To be fair , The genaral public are as thick as mince thats why !! , They take their cars for a MOT with no washer bottle fluid , bold tyres, lights not working ... then suprised when it fails .
@ true 😂😂😂
I'd have to remap my brain to fully understand this.
so cute "is that the server on the car"
Hope that has made you feel better 💐
Great video, Joe. I understood everything! Lol. Cheers.
I don't disagree with tuning road cars (in principle). However .. personally .. if I wanted a faster car I would prefer to buy a faster car. That way, I get the benefit of upgraded brakes, suspension and steering.
Factory software is very limited for a whole host of reasons including tax, emissions, blah blah. It’s good to unlock the full potential of your vehicle if you’re a petrol head. You also get better fuel consumption too which is an added bonus. Oh and any real petrolhead will have decent brakes and tyres etc anyway.
Yeh, not many people buying a Corsa Zest and slapping a big boy turbo and map on it. The vast majority are hot hatches and actual performance cars that already have decent suspension and brakes.
You do you mate.
You can only legally do 70mph so whats the point ??
I thought the same until i bought a very cheap Isuzu D Max 1.9 Turbodiesel. Great truck but a bit of a slug and could be wrong footed quite often. i spent 200 quid on a reputable piggy back box from Bluespark which "crudely" interrupts the signal from the common injector rail pressure sensor and manifold absolute pressure sensor. Night and day change in driveability, and no fuel consumption penalty, it sits on the exact same consumption numbers. I would buy another for my next turbodiesel or retune my ECU.
I am a convert to tuning!!!!
An interesting video and a useful way of covering your backside with undeclared cars, but it looks like a lot of risk if you're planning on doing the mapping.
Can you remap boats? Mercury 1.7L 115hp outboard
This is an episode of lets make my life more difficult. As everything is so easy at the moment.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Any of it: how difficult or not my life is, what I may want mapping facilities for, what you think is going on in my business(es). You watch some videos and think you know it all... 🙄
Me and my car need remapping. 🤪
The Weston boys love a tune
You do get involved in some good things Joe.....This is NOT one of them.
It is something that we are probably going to go ahead and add to our business. We are subs to your channel and really enjoy your content and honesty. Do you have an affiliate link to get some pennies for referrals? Get a link for a cut unless you already done deal for training/kit for free for platforming in your sphere. Many thanks
Hi, love your Channel. Just a small observation and in the politest manner, I wonder if you should have advised that there MAY be insurance implications when a car is re mapped? I don’t wish to teach you to suck eggs so please don’t be offended, I’m only trying to be helpful as there MAY be people out there who could potentially fall into a trap if they don’t advise their insurer. Keep up the great work and thanks.
I can tell the guy giving you the training is a very technical guy but f'n useless at explaining anything 😂😂 I can guarantee you left there with no idea what you're doing.
Absolutely correct, i shouldnt be put infront of people or the camera to be fair, minding my own business on the day i got dragged out of the office by the business manager :(
@MobileEcoTuning I'm exactly the same. Very technical but useless at explaining anything :)
@@drgr33nUK next time, ill just hide i think
@@MobileEcoTuning I work from home now so I can hide 😂
Dave has a very good name in Weston for anything to do with motors. Fair play
Always concerns me that doing this will put strain on an engine and blow it up. Would certainly never advise someone doing this if the car is under manufacturers warranty.
I haven't watched to end, but does remapping mean you have to tell your insurer that you've modified your car?
yes
Yes
Yes a friend bought a brand new M4 and got it remapped, 6 weeks later wrapped it around a lamppost. The loss assesor requested a engine (ECU) check and found out it was not original map so insurance company said na ya good. He now has a £55k debt and a lump of mental!!!
Isnt it a bit irresponsible not to mention about telling your insurer in the video? Seems just a full-on advert for this DIY kit. I'm disappointed because this is usually a good car enthusiast channel.
did you remap gearbox as well? I belive this is must have in PDK before ecu remap
No, not on this occasion
I better you can’t map a mk1 Honda jazz. Just like James one at chops garage. I live near to him. Glen. Enjoyed the vlog.
This will come back to bite you!
These mobile map guys are a joke they have no idea what they’re doing just upload whatever they’ve been sent with no clue how it works. Guy started near me and he’s wrecked one of our cars.
Well you used him! Maybe if he was with a company like MET it wouldn't be wrecked
@ it wasn’t MET but they were signed up to a similar system. The problem stands if you’re loading a map to a car and don’t understand what’s really going on it’s fairly risky. Few bad experiences our end
But why aren't you putting your hands on your head for the thumnail
Doing something original, maybe you should give it a go
JOE, for f's sake you're driving me nuts, your little OBD diagnostic tool is an OBD 2, not eleven. It's written in Roman numerals for some strange reason but it is OBD 2.
When did I say that in this video? I say OBDeleven in other videos because I’m talking about the brand obdeleven.com
It’s driving me nuts explaining it to people who can’t figure it out 😅 I know it’s an OBD2 port ffs
You can tell you don’t have a scooby. I’d be the same 🙃
I remember fitting a Superchip to my Astra GTE ecu. Dont think it did much though...lol
Not the same thing bridge's the fuel rail etc and lies. Works for some though.
I'm Sure you said at the start of video rolling road test before and after not just a generic map which is exactly what you did lol
No I didn't though LOL
It would of be good to see the dyno before and after in the video I'm not knocking you the channel is good I'm always tuned in keep up the good work just show us the dyno next time and did you remap the land-rover?
Alot of these remap places don't do rolling road. Alot of people don't even want a rolling road test done even on a nearly new vehicle.
Can not get my car done it says locked ECU
(Golf8 GTE)
It's not just £2600 plus the VAT though is it? It's the website, the advertising and all the other bits along with it. Plus any franchise charges.
Same as any business then? There aren’t any franchise charges…
I don't think that guy truly understands what he's talking about. Real experts with deep knowledge of their subject are able to explain things in plain terms that anyone can understand. This bloke is talking gibberish.
A 450 brake, Cat S Porsche, what could possibly go wrong 🙈
It's not the cat S one and not sure what relevance it would have but whatever makes you happy! 🙃
@ The relevance would be, were it the Cat S, that car looks as if it’s had a heavy front ender and had a questionable repair, adding more power to something like that without knowing the quality of the repair would be madness
@@GrahamTWCyou don’t know what you’re talking about. My business is repairing crash damaged cars for about 7 years now, then we sell them through another. Cat S can sometimes mean the wing needed changing because they get it wrong a lot and “on the safe side” seems to be what they go with. Sometimes the inspector never sees the car, only pictures.
@@KeyBrosUK
To much fear around cat S !
Buyers think cat S means smashed to bits .
And cat N ,means not hit to bad ! 😅
Sorry, but you haven’t got a clue. You’ve listened to too many carvertical ads! 😂
You're playing with fire with this I reckon. You map someone's car and it goes wrong next week, they're going to come looking for you, whether it's your fault or not. I reckon you're going to need people to sign waivers if you're going down this road. I can't imagine you're going to be able to say "well Eco tune said it was fine". Or are you saying you're only going to use this to flash standard maps back?
Not even that, you remap it and the clutch goes a week later you can guarantee they’ll be back at your door blaming you…
@@GrahamTWCwaivers are always used in mapping never any comeback
I would never recommend a remap unless you have the actual car on a rolling road and customise the map to the specific car. Every car is slightly different and will need tweaks and changes to any base map. I would never ever put a generic map on a car no matter how it has been done it's just not worth it, a good company will not touch a car if there are any issues.
12 minutes in and i have no idea what this is about!
Do you speak English?
@ShiftingMetal my first and only language, I just don't know what mapping actually is...has it got something to do with maps?
I have a 4.2 D Cayenne, its extremely quick. Why anyone would want more than 380 bhp and 850 nm of torque, not 800 as the first chap stated?
Why not? Why would you ever want a pay rise, why would you want a nicer car?
People well some always want more
Isn't this tuning rather than remapping.
A remap would require you to manipulate parts of the programming based on output data files and in the process you would also need to upgrade some of the parts to avoid them blowing. Better inlets... forged parts.... different cats etc depending on the power change.
To be honest I wouldnt buy a vehicle that was remapped so a good idea to check it for remapping and return it to the manufactures spec.
From experience this is an insurance nightmare... remap reported (premium rejected or increased) new part installed to complete the remap (not retune) insurance company rejects the modification etc
Tuning and remapping are the same thing just different ways of saying the same thing. There’s different “stages” as they are now called. Stage 1 requires no hardware, stage 2 on most vehicles requires intake, intercooler, downpipe and better flowing exhaust (sports cat in most cases). Stage 3 is changing turbos, injectors and so on.
Hope it works out Joe but sounds like a can of worms from people moaning if things go wrong. Wife got her very low mileage Leon remapped by a bug company using APR software, turbo went a few months later and car driven sensibly. Safe to say she won’t ever get hers done again. And kinda put me off too.
So aren`t these just generic flash maps then?
I don't recommend vehicle maps at all... Too many times we tell customers to get the maps removed either due to emissions/fueling/corruption issues etc. honestly not worth it especially if you're not going to modify the vehicle in otherways too. However, great vid though Joe, very informative :)
(edit) ngl no doubt a map enhances a vehicles performance especially if you get it done properly like here rather than jammy dodger off fb with a laptop and a slammed caddy van 😅
It’s 2024, proper tuners like mobile eco tuning know what they are doing , when you get idiots using Chinese clone equipment, yes but done properly to the right vehicles it’s perfectly fine, I’m also a mechanic and don’t sprout advice to people on stuff I don’t understand properly , which is pretty obvious by your reply. Done right, it’s perfectly safe
I genuinely don’t see anywhere here where anyone said “do you recommend this”
Generic remaps are not good, stop blowing smoke!
Insurance companies surely will have to be informed?
Well, lets hope all this brings you super headaches with customers, lol. love it.
What a bitter loser 😂
Remapping, or add blue & dpf delete for when the repairs on a diesel are ££££££
Not liking how the agent asked Joe what car he had. Do they not check by VIN? Honestly asking, as installing the wrong one may brick the ECU, and some cars will have different engines in the same model.
To be honest I would avoid any used car that’s been mapped, just my view not a great idea, you sell some nice cars as it is, for me mapped high end cars… means avoid.
Yep, would avoid like the plague.
How do you know until you'e bought it?!
@ because most of us when we lay out a decent amount of money we need to take into consideration the cars history, you only map a car to get better bhp, for me means it’s likely to be thrashed, or at least driven hard. Not knocking you, I like your garage, but for me mapping is a wide berth.
Didn’t really answer my question. How do I know it’s been mapped, unless the seller tells me? This kit gives me the option to at least put it back to standard
@@ShiftingMetal I think you are straying away from my original post. I’m a chap who’d likely walk into your car dealership, I would not buy a mapped of previous mapped vehicle end off, yes you say you can in re-map it, still wouldn’t want it. I take your point t. Mine is just a point of a customer. This will probably upset you even more, just seeing a bit of kit or advertising for mapping would put me off. You did when driving the car after the map note the difference so you might know before you actually bought the vehicle that it had a map, or at least investigate.
Can a re-map lower emissions. If it can, and be proved. Do owners have then have the right. To have their vehicle re-classified from a high, emission tax. To a lower band. 🤷♂🤷♂
This is a valid question i think, it has been done in other countries and has been accepted but local authorities. the largest problem is the cost on the emmisions testing rolling road, this currently comes in just touch under 1m euros.
My brain is itchy. I dont understand any of this.
All this remapping, is it reducing the reliability of engines. Aircraft engines might be derated to give a longer life.
Remapping is the quickest way to shorten the life of any engine, the manufacturers spend millions to find the best all round mapping for the engines they design and manufacture so why mess with it?
They are mostly mapped for emissions reasons and different power options actually but OK 😅
Got first hand experience to back up your blanket statement?
I mean you will probably come back with some made up scenario, so quite pointless asking you anyway.
Have you?
No he hasn't 😂@@ShiftingMetal

Tell the insurance company or have no insurance. They do look at the ECU if you have a big smash. Having a secretly modified car is a huge indicator that any collision was your fault. Get a waver signed by the customer that they will inform the insurance.
