I've bought many cellular iPads and Apple Watches, only to be rarely be used to be honest. I just tether to my iPhone and I'm good to go. Good points that tethering to your iPhone drains battery and data. All this depends on how much you truly travel.

Totally agree, I bought wifi only iPad air and think hot spot sharing will be sufficient, and I was wrong, your reasons was right! 🤝

$150 + monthly charges? Hard pass. The kids tether on my phone every time we road trip. Works great. You are in the car, plug in if battery drain is an issue (it’s not).

Everyone knows this, you should mention the features on the both devices difference between wifi and cellular.

I think a cellular MacBook would be perfect! I just don't see Apple doing it anytime soon unfortunately.

i bouth an ipad pro 5 gen 12.9 with cellular option and i have a Samsung phone, i put my sim card in my iPad and i can use the sim only for internet... i cannot make a call or to send a message why????? i cannot use google voice because is not allow in Romania... on a Samsung tablet you can use your cellular tablet to make calls, when i drive and use google maps if my wife is calling and i have my sim card in my iPad what do i do? big - for apple, is forcing you to by an iPhone just to receive calls on your tablet but this is stupid because if you have an iPhone why to answer calls on your tablet?

For the most part, WiFi is fine for me, but in my experience, tethering to my iPhone when I need to use the internet for something on my iPad…it’s really unreliable. Like almost unusable for even general web browsing.
