She was never comfortable as a solo artist and really didn't like being out front. She much preferred her backup role. She's had a stellar career doing this!
Her stuff with the Stones is some of the most impactful vocal performances I’ve ever heard. I was lucky enough to see her perform with them and it was so good.
She is one of the best vocalists that has walked on stage! Seriously and How can i ease the pain is one of the hardest songs to sing vocally. I love this woman so dam much
She won a Grammy for the album which contains this song in a tie with Patti LaBelle, who was winning a Grammy for an album in which Lisa was a backup singer! Crazy
Lisa Fischer is the greatest vocalist EVER (TO ME). She has a spirit that's as beautiful as her voice. She still performs and KILLS today at age 63 with her band "Grand Baton" and with pianist, Taylor Eigsti.
her career started because he THREW SHADE at another 'famous singer" My backup singer can sing better than you ! 😆✨ 🙌🏾 . I dont remember the whole story because someone told me in passing convo. but I recall this cause it was funny
Lisa Fisher was a beast! You had to actually know how to sing back in the day. True angelic voice. None of that bubble gum singing would fly. Even Madonna had to compete
This is a masterclass in singing with a talented and skillful artist. So very few singers can flex then end a song like she does, without showing effort. Thank you for reviewing her work and recognizing!! I've been a fan for decades now and I never get tired of listening to her and this performance!🥰🥰🥰
YES! I’m so glad reactors are starting to pick on this performance. Lisa deserves all the recognition and praise. She’s a true MASTER, up there with prime Whitney and prime Mariah.
There is literally no one I've heard, in my decades of living and loving music, that sings with such technicality, such range, and such emotion as Lisa Fischer. As amazing as Mariah Carey is, the myriad of vocal styling and Impeccably seamless changes from chest, head and falsetto is unmatched by anyone in my opinion. Perfection.
I twice suggested Lisa to you about 2 years ago. Glad you've awakened. The most underrated singer of her generation. Lisa is still alive and working in and around my native Brooklyn. At 63 years she can still hit that F6 and is still just as beautiful as ever. Yes, she worked of and on with The Rolling Stones, but most of her major work was done, along with the great Ava Cherry, backing Luther Vandross for 22 years. This video then is a masterclass, not only in vocal technique, but in performance, presentation, and emotional commitment.
You nailed it, " Why is she not the most famous singer in the world"......so true. She is still out there singing. She continues to innovate and amaze. She has her own band and travels the world. I have seen her many times in concert-----seeing her live is a revelation and an incredible blessing. She throws her emotion into every song ----- and with THAT voice....WoW....words fail. She is just BEYOND.
She was a long-time backup singer for Luther Vandross; as a former background singer himself, he was always encouraging his own backup singers to take their careers to the next level. He produced 40% of the tracks on her debut studio album, 1981's _So Intense,_ from which "How Can I Ease the Pain" was the first single and biggest hit. If you haven't watched her section of the 2013 Grammy- and Academy Award-winning documentary _20 Feet from Stardom,_ you should. She explains what made her not want to continue pursuing a solo musical career even after the massive success of _So Intense._ In part she said, "I reject the notion that the job you excel at is somehow not enough to aspire to, that there has to be something more. I love supporting other artists...Some people will do anything to be famous. I just wanted to sing."
Lisa is one of the vocal greats! She has stated in several interviews that the pressure from the record label to record and sell a second album plus her making a bad oral agreement to sign with another label (that eventually decided not to sign her) all caused her to go back to background singing. As y’all could probably see, Lisa has a bit of shyness to her. She felt more comfortable singing background. She was a “student” of Luther and Chaka before going to The Rolling Stones , Pink, Tina Turner, and Nine Inch Nails to name of few. Also, she studied opera in college but eventually dropped out due to personal issues. At 63, she is still touring. She doesn’t go this high on this song anymore, but she does go high every now and then, and she is still a beast on the mic! ❤️

Pound for pound, there is that many women on this planet that can compete with her vocally. This woman is a priceless gym in a bag full of custom-made diamonds. She will shine brighter than all. At least in my opinion...
I saw that in person. She was backup for Luther Vandross and he gave her the stage in the middle of his show. I was glued to my seat, unmovable. She haunted us. I remember that like it was yesterday and will never forget the magic I observed

❤ Whew. You Go Lisa. You Really Rock.
She was phenomenal. A phenomenal performance those ol r&b performances from the 80’s and 90’s you can’t beat it. I think If Beth likes this performance you should react to Teddy Pendergrass “Lady” the live version. It WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. The same kind of energy that you saw in the Lisa Fischer performance is in that Teddy Pendergrass performance!
Lisa would make all vocal coaches sit and quietly be amazed
