- Halo 2 for the original Xbox gets some new love here in 2024 thanks to an aptly named patch called Halo 2 HD, which does exactly what it says and lets you experience the original Halo 2 in HD on original hardware! Although using the HD resolutions of 720p or 1080i does require a 128 MB RAM mod to be applied, 64 MB RAM users can still benefit from the fixes applied to the game's 480p mode. Grab your copy of Halo 2, the HD patch, and get to re-experiencing Halo 2 with some nice improvements and plenty of tweaks!

The Xbox modding community is awesome! I hope someone will manage to add stencil shadows to the game on OG Xbox by decompiling the game one day. That would be glorious!
We can only hope!
Hell no! Even with the 128mb dev kit, they couldn't get it to run on the old engine, then they scrapped it, made the new engine, and made Halo 2. I wish though :(
@@upbeat3535there is now a 256MB RAM mod.
Keep em comin good Sir - not many still looking at the OG. ty for doing so
You'll be surprised at how much love the original Xbox still gets 😁
@@MrMario2011 About to fit makemhz hd mod to my crystal and perhaps the ram if i feel brave
Now imagine what you can do with 256mb of ram...
It's the GPU that limits us... We need an adapter for the GPU to get a better one lol.
The Xbox keeps getting more and more upgrades, love to see it.
we would able to fit the entire of half-life 2 episode 1 maps that Case
@@abasgamesThe half-life 2 episodes use a different version of the source engine, it wouldn’t be possible to port it to the Xbox with mods, unless you had the source engine source code.
It’s why you can’t spawn portal 1 and Half-Life episode assets on Team Fortress 2/Half-Life 2 on the orange box, the games use a different version of the engine. TF2 & HL2 use the same version though.
Grimdoomer said more RAM isn't very useful, but faster RAM would help with framerate.
Wow, this stuff is amazing.
It really is!
At this point, somebody has got to make an easy board to upgrade the Xbox RAM.
It's cool and all to see all those patches and homebrew being developed for upgraded systems, but he barrier of entry to use them is still too high.
I know it's not something that's really doable on the xbox, but hey, the system has been torn apart so much at this point that everything seems possible.
For sure! We just got a 256 MB RAM upgrade, and progress on things such as CerBios modern day is fantastic.
@@MrMario2011I wanna do it to my Xbox, I watched Tito’s video on it earlier
@@MrMario2011 do we need anything extra to utilise more ram? I've got a modded 1.0, but ram and cpu haven't been touched at all. Also do you think there would be any issues running a higher quality H2 on Insignia multiplayer?
@@MrMario2011 Still in alpha stages, but yeah Tito's video was neat. Using flat flex as leads is not ideal, but I don't think there's an option of bonding flat gull wing leads to the interposer substrate. I would suggest castellated edge connection. Also there's the timing issues that are keeping the new modules from running at full tilt. Alpha stages! lol
The 128MB upgrade is actually pretty straightforward, but you need a different BIOS and there isn't much support for it outside of homebrew afaik
An important note: there is no NTSC-U Halo 2. There are 8 different Halo 2 discs, one for each language release.
I'll check but most likely GrimDoomer is using the English disc. You can check the XBE version of the default.xbe in DVD2Xbox, it ends in 03.
I appreciate the extra details 😁
Very impressive and I give a lot of street cred to anyone that does RAM or CPU upgrades to their ogXbox but it's not playing on original hardware anymore and kinda breaks the magic of retro gaming for me. I have to draw the line after upscalers and HDMI mods. CPU and RAM, GPU overclocking and all that are just too much of an upgrade for me. Like... as silly as it sounds, I want my Halo CE to dip to 10 FPS in big fights.
The line is definitely subjective to folks, because I've also run into people who believe that upscalers and HDMI mods like the ones you've mentioned are hearsay. Although I feel you on the FPS drops, usually on console if you can do something to generate FPS drops, that means you're doing something pretty intense 🤣
I'm getting a checksum error when applying the patch. I have a genuine copy of Halo 2. Any way to fix this?
Has to be the exact copy specified, otherwise make sure you're getting a clean XBE file.
What kind of dashboard are you using on your modded xbox? I like that it looks close to the stock one.
UnleashX with TrueMSDash 2.0 skin.
OG Xbox games still look great.
They do.
Impressive.
It probably wasn't a good financial decision to release the Xbox with 128MB or RAM back then, but man, it would have been amazing.
For sure, even that was lavish for the developer units, I'm sure they could have never imagined 256 MB mods.
1.5 support?
Not yet
I believe the author plans to add it eventually, for now it is for the 1.0 version.
I want to get my Xbox hard modded now I've only done soft mods so far. I'm lacking the experience to do the mods myself.
I was the exact same way until I learned how to do it, good luck! It's a rewarding process for sure.
I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.
Much like that Zelda guy in those games!
A true man of culture! Love it
H-How?! This is amazing! Does it perform well?
As well as it can given the limitations!
What dash are you using in this video?
UnleashX
@@MrMario2011 then I must know the skin! I have had the blue skin for the last 10 years and I am super jealous of this one
TrueMSDash 2.0
256MB RAM and 1.6GHz Pentium III?
That would have you flying back to 2004 in style.
It's impressive but why isn't already on pc
Why not?
Do you think there would be issues playing on Insignia?
🫵😂
@@miaagui2698 what?
@@miaagui2698 you don't even know what you're laughing at do you?
@@xTooPalex 🫵🤣
@@miaagui2698 oh okay you're just stupid
Too bad it’s incompatible w insignia and/emulation
I'm cool with it being offline.
Cool video but wayy too much messing around I'd rather just play MCC
Good collection!
This is cool and all great video! but why not just play halo 2 on mcc ?
Because it's not the same game
To play the original an Xbox or 360 is required, 343 messed some things up on H2 MCC, for example duel wield elites didn’t duel wield for years until they fixed it lol.
How do you play MCC on Original Xbox?
Others have answered here, modders love making the impossible happen!
@@Dano_116 Even the Xbox 360 version is only emulating Halo 2. There's still some graphical glitches but it's still very good.
