    The instructions were clear and easy to follow, unfortunately, I tried them all and none worked. All my choices were grayed out. So, I've got a terrabyte unallocated drive for which I have no 'Rename' option. Frustrating.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. The first piece of advice was the best - don't panic! When Solution 1 didn't work, looked at the "system restore" panel. While looking around there, I noticed that my windows update was only partly completed. So I shut down my computer, let it update, and my 2 other hard drives returned. You are terrific!!!!!

    All i had to do was to shut down my desktop, wait to shutdown completely, unplug it, hold down the power button to reset, plug power back up, power on & got my D drive back, :)

    • @JanAtheCPA
      @JanAtheCPA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Me too. Apparently you have to take away the power and give it a few moments to think about the error of its ways 😀 The PC had been off for a few days, and before then I'd had it on continuously for about a week, and in the meantime there was a Win 10 update that went into action when I turned the PC on today. It seemed to take forever, and then it just went completely black screen for an even longer time (no hourglass, no cursor, no mouse, but the monitor's power lamp was still blue, indicating it was active). So I forced a reboot which appeared to be fine - until I discovered that my 1Tb D drive and all of my data simply weren't there. Disk Management showed C drive only and rescanning changed nothing. Two restarts changed nothing. Forcing shutdown and unplugging for about 10 seconds totally worked. You suggest the additional step of pressing the power button while still unplugged, and I've read about doing that (to "flush" the capacitors) and I didn't do this, but unplugging and waiting a bit (also recommended when rebooting your modem and router) worked fine for me.

    If you have tried all the ways explained and didn’t work, your drive is most likely loose. Try to unscrew your laptop and fix that. You can put a hard paper to cover the space left in the drive slot. I struggled with my drive for months until I discovered that and fixed, it worked. All the best

    Good video. D: disappeared with crucial office data. What a ruckus it caused! The suggestions in video didn't help but as someone in the comments mentioned, removing laptop battery, removing the SSD, cleaning the connectors and removing dust and putting them back resolved the issue. Gosh. What a stress and thank you to everyone for the great comments and suggestions.

The only one solution for me is restarting my computer every time I see that my D drive is missing, but don't want to do that again and again. Maybe something's up with my OS and I should reinstall it? Before that I will try updating it because there is an available update.

      Hi there, thank you for your question. If your hard drive is vibrating and making strange noises, it is likely a sign of hardware issues, and there is a possibility that the drive is failing or has already failed.

    If this video didn't work, and this issue happened right after doing things inside your pc, chanses are, like me, you broke your SATA port for your hard drive. To fix, just swap the cable of your hard drive to a different SATA port, and make sure it is in good.

    • @RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware
      @RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, thank you for your question! If you have tried all common methods to fix a connected but not appearing disk in File Explorer, there are a few other solutions to try. You can open Disk Management by typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the Run dialog box, right-click on the disk that is not showing up, select "Change Drive Letter and Paths", click "Add", and choose a drive letter that is not in use. Alternatively, you can use Command Prompt as an administrator and type "diskpart", then "list disk" to see all connected disks, identify the problematic disk, type "select disk X" (replace "X" with the disk number), "clean" to wipe the disk, "create partition primary" to create a new partition, and "assign letter=X" (replace "X" with the desired letter). Additionally, it is worth checking for hardware issues by trying a different USB port or cable, or connecting the disk to another computer to see if it appears there.

    Let me share my problem encountered and how I fixed it.
    1. Drive D is not showing up. So I followed the first step.
    2. I see the "hidden" partition but the file system is RAW.
    3. I right-click to the RAW partition and clicked "format" and make it NTFS.
    4. After the formatting is done, I right-click again the partition and clicked on "change driver and paths..."
    5. I assigned D and now the system can now read the "hidden" drive partition.
    Just sharing. Might as well work on someone else' situation.

    Good Day, first of all thanks alot for this informative video, i really loved your content. I have tried all your steps that you have mentioned in this video, but unfortunately it did not fix my issue. So what worked for me is as below:
    1. I tried to update all the pending windows updates along with the firmware for devices. You can check if you have any pending updates by navigating from: Start-> Settings-> Update and Security-> Windows Update
    If you have any pending updates on firmware DO FINISH those updates because it what fixed my issue.
    2. (optional) Try reconneing you hard drive cables in the laptop and do a restart.

    Brilliant video, very to the point and easy to understand. However, none of these solutions worked.
    1. Rescanning did not find the drive.
    2. System restore to two seperate points failed, as it said it couldn't find a certain file and was cancelled so the restore was cancelled.
    3. I can not acces Group Policy Manager. gpedit.msc didn't bring up anything
    4. All drivers are up to date
    5. Couldn't change the drive letter as it couldn't find the drive.
    I'll for sure drop a like on this video though because even though it didn't work for me it's very well presented!

      Hey there! I think I found a solution! I had the same issues, and my system restores even ended up bluescreening.These got me thinking that it's a problem with the physical aspect of your devices. Yes, despite the fact that POST didn't signal any errors, I highly reccomend you take a look at how your SATA/SSD drives are fixed in. In my case, I've messed around with the cables. Usually your drive is fixed by 2 distinct ones. I think one of them thick, with 3 cables at the end, colored red,yellor and black. Thats your SATA power cable, which should be fine if your PC booted up in the first place. The issue in my case was with the second cable. Its red, flat and similar to the cables you can see in old school phones, with spring like rotation. It seemed to sit a little awkward, so I took it out (BEWARE: MAKE SURE YOUR PC ISNT PLUGGED IN) , blew off a little dust, and insterted it back in, this time fitted tighter. I also changed the motherboard port in which I put the 2nd end of the cable. Your motherboard most likely has 1-4 SATA ports which all look similar and serve the same function. In case one was damaged, I decided to put the second half in a different port from the original. Lo and behold, upon booting up, the drive was there once again!

    @Wondershare Recoverit Data Recovery :Here is the solution What to do when the secondary drive showed up and then disappeared?.
    The third method works. But the next day my secondary drive not showing again. I went to disk management___Action-----Rescan disks for 3 times. Restarted PC for 3 times. The secondary Drive appeared .Then I highlighted and Format it for 2 times .Now the secondary drive is showing up to this time. I did not change the secondary drive path name. I kept as "D". I think the DVD drive and secondary drive conflicting the name "D" or Win10 wanted to save in CLOUD. Cheers.

    I have a question. To those who were successful with step 1 does the rescan process tell you by any means that it is done scanning or not? Like some sort of announcement or declare so I know the rescan didn't work.

    None of that worked for me. I took the cover off of my Lenovo laptop and replaced the hard drive with a new one. It recognized that hard drive. I then swapped the original back in and that worked , but the drive was renamed from D: to F:

    My problem is it doesn't show because Windows says it's not initialized. I don't want to lose the files, but I fear the disk is faulty, or at least it's been corrupted somehow. Happened with a couple of them already. Trying to get something out of it still. But strangely there's little information about this on the Internet... Thanks.

    System Restore works only about 10% of the time since it came out. Cleaned my computer, and my physical hard drive disappeared. Been using that drive for back-ups for years, now it's gone. Can't even remember what brand it was. There are no loose SATA cables or disconnected power cables, it just disappeared. My Bios shows all SATA ports as working.
