"he's stomping on decades of 40k lore"
like poetry
I think they've said that they designed that in mind for Cawl to on the 40k rules book so he's not wrong lol
I don't even have an AdMech army but I've still bought three AdMech kits. The bits are insanely useful for conversions.
I was thinking about doing the same and converting me some Augmented Guard units.
I'm also not a fan of the electropriests either. I think it's the organic human look in an otherwise super mechanical-looking range that just doesn't fit.
They look like they should be used for remote controlling heavily gunned servitors, or kitbashing to make tech priests that are floating around in jars that are mounted onto big ol robots.
They are hardly human.
They have way too much flesh and just look like people not adepts of the machine god
I was debating on whether or not to start an admech army, and this has finally pushed me over the edge. Dammit Kirioth
Love, love love Ad Mech. One of the most underrated factions IMHO. Of all the factions (other than Nids perhaps), they may be the one that most seamlessly blend together from an aesthetic perspective. If you took a layperson who had never seen 40K they would easily be able to tell that their various units form a cohesive group. A well painted Ad Mech force on a well painted board is a sight to behold. Very fun to play as well.
And they're also great outside of 40k.
Their steampunk look is awesome, they could even fit into something like a future version of mad max or something.
I've always been bothered by AdMech tanks/vehicles ... they build all of the tanks, etc for everybody in the Imperium, so why don't they have access to use them all? In my opinion, the AdMech should be able to field any Imperial vehicle, customised up as they see fit, and forget about the rubbish ones.
They don't drive vehicles, they are one with the machine like Knights. We need some scary mechanicum units know, skitarii are more mass produced
I wish they did that. It makes no sense they are losing money. I’d certainly buy some
Lore wise, they keep the best of their tech for the Skitarii. So they don’t really bother with other imperial vehicles, because they keep the ‘best’ in the imperium for themselves.
"Your troops are always going end up being cheaper than your specialist stuff."
Sighs in necron immmortals :(
Waiting for the new Ad mech cavalry so i can finally make my Vostroyan Rough Riders :D Praise the Onmissiah!
I hate that GW hadn't re-released the tech priest from the Kill Team box to be added to this review.
Fomo
and the blackstone fortress guy
@@damienrichards7216 all the blackstone fortress models come with rules to be in 40k(i think) and to be fair i think they are a bit overpowered compared to the standard models
their just supposed to be a "oh you bougt blackstone and played through it all, well now you can go and use em in 40k too" and i think thats great, the boxed games being usable elsewhere makes buying them all the more tempting to me
They are probably being released along with the rest of the ad mech range with engine war
Good news! They are for Engine War
Thanks for this reveiw. In my opinion, these are the best models for 40k they have released in years! The kits are packed with options and are beautifully molded. The potential for kitbashing and conversions beats any other range except possibly the Orks. And the suitability for the leftover bits for customization almost knows no limits as to where you can use them! I had not seen the " mecha-cavalry" and I think they're over the top mental! In a very good way! That flyer is absolutely nuts! I have the start collecting box, another box of Rangers/ Vanguard, and the Sicarians so far and " fix it all" Belasarius Caul. I had initially got them to create a detachment for my " Army of The Imperium" ie: Guard, Marines, Admech, and Inquisition, but I think I'm going all in from now on on the Admech.
Anyway, thanks again for the reveiw!
The heads of the castellan look a bit foreing is the fact that they are based on dark age of technology tech.
"based on the MoI"
"Yes, Inquisitor, there's totally a human brain controlling the big murderbot"
@@leonardomarquesbellini they are pure robots lore wise. Which makes there actions limited and they have to remotely controlled.
Every move order and shoot order has to be given.
So you can not tell them "go there and shoot at enemy's on the way" you have to manly tell them to shoot and enemy when one pops up
I have 4 robots in 2 squads. The first 2 are named domo and arigato. The second two are named rock’em and sock’em
@@emile1365 well i only have 4
Ebony & Ivory would be a good one too.
That’s awesome lol.
I've seen several people referring to the cavalry as "robot" horses or dogs, I hope you guys notice the rubber clad look of the upper legs/torso area on them. These creatures are definitely gene modded monstrosities who get their legs chopped off for cybernetic ones and have gasmasks/flamethrowers permanently attached to their snouts, effectively like their skitarii riders. So cool.
that makes them even better
The really funny thing about the Pteraxii units is that, though the wings feel a bit big, they are already just SO shrimpy to be carrying something as heavy as a heavily armed cyborg around with any sort of speed unless they are moving like a hummingbird's.
I feel like if the wings were lengthened and didn't have such a dramatic curve to them (Not the curves in the canvas, mind, the overall shape of them is just too circular to me), it would make them much more imposing/striking to see. A bit more like raptors or bats. Less like two halves of a spoon.
I'm pretty sure from the look of the model that they have jet packs with the wings as more control elements. But it does remind me of pre invention of flight people strapping on wings thinking they can fly. But that's just my thoughts.
I love my Iron Warrior cultists that I used Skitarii rangers/vanguard for. Fantastic aesthetic. One of my favorite kits from GW
I always thought these guys look the coolest, by far.... Am going to get hate for this but, yeah..
Admech looks awesome on the shelf and on the battlefield as well. Except the new horsedogs, they look horrific.
@@csabipapo naw they look fine
@@csabipapo that's the point
I agree! Mechanicus for life!
@@yaboy821 I don't know. I hate the western idea for the Admech. For GSC it was fine but for admech is kinda stupid in my opinion. I just don't like their poses and and the heads.
With the Infiltrators, I have that strange obsessions to try to put them into victorian-style servant liverys. I saw a picture of a liveried robot with a monocle and a dueling piece from some kind of graphical novel once, and it looked gorgeous and incredibly topical, and the infiltrators seem very close in body-design.
Props if anyone understands what I am talking about, and could even name that novel or anime to me.
Completely agree on the Skitarii kit, loved that so much I've got 50 Rangers/Vanguard finished with more on the way, they're just amazing, best kit GW has ever made in my opinion
The higher you get in most armies you get they usually get bigger and more badass
The higher you get in Adeptus mechanicus the more uncomfortable and weird they look
Try using Deldar Wrack's face mask on Electro-priests, it looks super cool and you could say your dudes just took some trophies. The best part: A box of 5 Wracks comes with 10 masks and about 30 sets of arms, so if your only use 5 masks for your 5-men electro-priests, you can still make a full set of 5-men Deldar Kill Team, or use the wracks as some cultists conversion bits since they have a ton of arms with melee weapons. I play both Deldar and Ad Mech so I made 20 wracks and 20 electro-priests wearing warck masks. They look sweet.
Love the range, love the mechanicus. One for your Kitbash loving consideration Kirioth, you expressed an interest in the Dune Crawler tank, am I alone in thinking that the quad spider legs it has would look brilliantly over the top as the legs for a dreadnaught? Using the upper half of a redemptor or contemptor/ contemptor mortis for the other half. You'd end up with almost a loyalist take on the defiler. Or not even loyalist, could make a nice kitbash for a traitor legion force
I personally think the Dune Crawler needs more than four legs.
holy crap, so i did a kit bash and used dragoon legs on a dune walker so i have an extra set. guess who just bought a dred on ebay.
I now know what my next purchases will be. Oh crap.
From a war studies historian who focused on armoured warfare, yes those servitors would have better ground clearance but for their size the treads are too short to be useful for clearing obstacles
I always thought they would topple over somewhat with those bodies being on the front end.
I'm pretty sure their guns and power claws will clear any obstacles for them ;)
What info do you have about the 41st millennium?
I adore the ballistari and dragoons. They're such a weird idea that are modeled beautifully.
I really really really love the Sydonian Dragoon, one of my all time favourite miniatures.
I love these models. Visually they are the best and most stimulating. The lore has been exciting to see unfold and I cant wait to see how GW flush it out more. 40k is so epic I love it.
My favorite part about admech is that you can always use extra bits. Every bit of every admech model can somehow be used to make a crazy custom techpriest, and I love it.
The older Enginseer is actually still in metal! I ordered it mostly just because of that, I've been slowly ordering all the metal models still being offered by GW since I love that retro feel of them, it's very nostalgic for me and there's just something about the weight of a metal model. An absolute pain in the ass to work with, but still I love them.
I've been into warhammer for a handful of years in terms of lore, but what finally pushed me over into the model side of things was seeing these guys for the first time. They're whole aesthetic is just right up my alley (bar the ectropriests); not to mention the conversion potential! Needles to say, seeing this in my recommended got me excited!
As a solution I've seen someone do with the Kastelans heads, they used some scrap bits with an armiger faceplate and made a whole new head which worked fairly well. I know I'm going to give it a try given how many of the faceplates I have lying around
Adeptus mechanicus is like if you go every punk and cranes it into one faction
I think the electro priests dont work for a few reasons:
Eavy metal can't paint skin.
The leg proportions are wrong and the robes over them look too smooth to be cloth.
The poses are a bit jank too, they dont look threatening because they're stumpy and knock knee-d.
i just dont like the amount of flesh we can see for a action that even replaces who organs for the rank and file troops these specialized units have so little augmentation for the admech it doesn't make sense
Tip for kastelans: I heavily disliked the dome, so I did my first batch with the common third party replacement heads, the ones with the clusters of lenses. But then I got some more and couldn't be bothered to order more heads, so what I did to make them blend in was to take the domes, dremel out jagged holes in the visors as if they've been smashed in, and stuck leftover faceplates from armigers with similar lenses inside of the domes. Works surprisingly well.
I'm with you on the electropriests, they just make me think of 7th tier DC villain concepts someone pumped out at 4.45 on a Friday. The ranger torso's however I love for how many other kits across the ranges they fit with.
I love the Ad Mech range. They are so versatile and full of character. So many conversion opportunities and pretty much any conversion could make sense
I didn't realise that the Tech Priest Manipulus didn't get released as a standalone mini. That's odd, as the other model released in a Kill Team expansion at the same time (the Kelermorph) did.
They don’t tie in until you think of a black and white tv series attack from Mars! Then suddenly the beep boop robots slowly advancing on you while tall metal stalkers run by and dune’s archeopters fly over head is just perfect nostalgia sci-fi. This is my fave faction by far and have at least 5k points with conversions etc.
the flyers reminds me on something i saw a while back in a game review about a dune game. wich i find interesting, as dune is as far as i am aware a insperation for 40k since the start (but could be wrong here about the lore stuf)
I actually find myself liking the Electro-priests quite a bit. The only thing I don't particularly like is the headdress thing, but I just don't glue that bit on my guys.
"standing on the shoulders of giants" the book is "standing on the knowledge of man"
did you react to the admech reaser datasheets of these new models? any comment on these?
@kiriothTV , there's a conversion bumping around somewhere on the internet of the dune rider top, on top of the mini knight legs and it screams AT-ST from star wars\
watching this while painting my dunecrawler, love the admach.
The Sydonian Dragoon is the model that single-handedly (leggedly?) made me pick AdMech when I came back to 40k couple of years ago.
"the troops are on tracks and the tanks on leg"...that one kinda got to me.
The tech priest is a nightmare to glue to the base my one came off multiple times before it finally worked
Wasn't the book on cawls base supposed to be the codex astartes ? Can't remember where I heard that tho
5:45 That model is actually metal still, not resin.
Bought an admech Start Collecting! by accident and did not regret it. Incredible models. Starting on my robots now!
Its the 50s aesthetic of the castellans that throw me. Most everything else is far future body horror stuff, or, more recently, a DaVinci on LSD feel. The "Danger, Will Robinson!" feel is jarring.
People changing there heads are missing the point of the model. The earyness of the panel without face is what make them so good. The dome alternative I think also fullfil that pourpose.
You left out a couple of our characters! Daedalosus looks cool, and the Tech Priest Manipulus is pure madness!
Know what you mean about the Skorpius Dunerider I made mine based off an idea you put out in a vid a while back actually. I really liked the Onager Dunecrawlers and it just felt weird that the transport didn't use legs to me so I bought two second hand defilers. Cut off the spikes and put Admech symbols on the arms and the rear power pack that I had left from an Imperial Knight kit and they came out really well I think. Have two of them and three Dunecrawlers and they tie in really well. Do look crazy tall and on a tabletop line of sight goes out the window but happy with how they worked out.
Speaking about vanguard helmets. There is a model in BlackStone Fortress Escalation expansion, that is just Crusader with vanguard helmet. Looks amazing.
I want a better transport. The Scorpius we got stuck with sucks. It's a dumb floaty box. :(
I might just want to bring Rhinos instead, or try to pull off some crazy conversion.
Hey kirioth I gained interest in your stuff when I was looking through dark mechanicum stuff and your video caught my eye could you tell me a bit about your dark mechanicum force I'm thinking of mixing chaos and admech with loads of demon engines any tips on rules or Ideas?
on the topic of the kastellan robots, there is a simple fix to the heads. all you gotta do is rotate it 180 degrees and it looks a lot more ruthless and less cartoony. the fan submissions on the gw website have a few built like that
Less tank expert and more tank pedant, but I 100% agree with you on the Kataphron tracks looking more reasonable than the ones on the actual tanks. The Russ/Land Raider look like they've got about as much suspension as the old WWI tanks (that is to say they've got none), which may have been intentional, especially for the Land Raider, but the Kataphrons look like they could actually go over uneven ground and still remain fairly steady.
I barely use AdMech in Kill Team with Skitarii and Sicarians but I wanna get all their line cause it's so cool. I think what I likeabout the Destroyers especially is that they remind me of Quake 2 enemies
As an artist I'd say there's A LOT of cohesion in this range. The most cohesive and different in all the ranges I'd say. Genestealers are very good though too that way. But in my opinion the davinci-esque wings DO fit the range if the designers have used them for literally the only flying models in the range. When looking at the range the biggest thing I see is a blend between the mechanical and the organic form. All the heavy stuff has an organic motif out of mechanical design. Long legged birdlike legs like for the chickenwalkers. Crab like legs for the dune crawler. Pteraxi and the flyer have the davinci wings and the flyer has similar walker legs to the dune crawlers alternate legs. The new hounds are obviously mechanically designed horse dogs. The heavy tanks are literally tacked with a humanoid body on top. The infantry fit in really well to me also. Every range has branches that differ from the trunk of the tree but this range is very cohesive I'd say. Idk I can see it
The Kastelan robots to me scream "Robby the robot" and I think that a different paint job, (and some conversion) along that line could make a difference. .
I really like the Kastellans, they look so much like Power Armor from Fallout, although alot of the AdMech reminds me of Fallout.
I prefer the Skitarii side of the AdMech more than the Cult Mechanicus. I also really like the look of the upcoming units. The right mix of retro design and future weirdness.
I was honestly hoping for some kind of flying orb UFO or maybe a mechanical D&D beholder inspired flyer for them. I was not expecting the da Vinci angle, but I guess I should have. That flyer is going to be a task to store with space efficiency...
Concerning the heads of the castellan robots, you can pick these replacement bits from wargame exclusive
wargameexclusive.com/shop/mechanic-adepts/adeptus-mechanicus-kastelan-robots-heads/
I've been fighting off the urge to by admech since I started the hobby, but I already have two imperial factions and I don't need anymore.
Dark Mechanicus mabe?
@@0neKingD0wn YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'VE JUST DONE. You don't understand the monster you've created. In other news did you know that the ruststalker heads fit almost perfectly on the Nighthaunt Grimghast Reapers? Oh and the Delaque models would be great for a tech priest! What were we talking about again?
Where did he go to get weapon profiles? I can't find that anywhere.
I cant wait for the new admech flyer.
Finally i will be able to rain bombs upon heretics.
And the damn flyers are going to be -2 to hit if you play Stygies VIII. Just wait, imperium flyer spam will be the next meta list.
The best thing about the kataphron breachers/destroyers is that fact that they are a troop choice with 3 wounds each
My favourite unit are probably the secutarii which are unfortunately a forgeworld kit :/
At 7:21 it sounds like he says ' you get a box of these and a box of kordor...' What is kordor or what is he saying? Thanks.
The kataphron have much better clearance for the bottom hull so they are not only going to have an easier time in rough terrain, they also would have a somewhat better time with mines
My issue with Ad Mech is that most of the viable competitive stuff looks kinda crap imo. I love some stuff but the whole range looks a bit too disjointed. Don’t even get me started on the flyer thing...
the only thing is missing now from AdMech is a..............
MEGA Kastellan equivalent of the Thanatar! ;)
The sulphur hounds guy needs a cowboy hat
Those da vinci flyer things could be good for orky conversations, with some suitable patches and other bits. Some good insights.
Good review, this range is what got me back into 40k after about 10 years warmachine detour.
The kastelan robots actually look good with the heads from the kit sunken into the body, i think i would fill in the googly eye visor as well.
The kataphrons look to be a good source of space marne scale bionics, my fledgling Iron hands thank you for reminding me they exist!
I wonder if the da vinci flyers would benefit from a hex pattern paint job? Though, personnaly, i was thinking of replacing them with some dragonflyish wings made from clear plasticard.
To me the skorpius was a definite letdown. Conceptually its a really cool idea, but the design itself is lazy. As it is 90% of the vehicle could be used in imperial guard. It really could have used more admech flavoring.
Also, i don't understand gw insistence on putting machine guns on every imperial aligned vehicle instead of more faction appropriate weapons.
The kataphrons do have more ground clearance but but I think the center of mass could make them liable to tipping
Admech is my favorite army aesthetically followed by the Harlequins.
Yeah those trends/tracks have ground clearance, if your gonna have a tank it needs ground clearance so it can go over objects and travel but also lower its chance at triggering land/AT mines
Wargame Exclusive makes some *amazing* looking heads for the Kastelans
That big servitor with the tank tracks, runnin over a human skull.... Is that a reference to Terminator, ya think, where the tracked robot runs over a skull in the opening?
Innovation and Experimentation must be the new Creed of the Mechanicus.
I'm building my first 40k army which is the Crusaders for Knowledge in the codex. I'm so glad I only need 1 box of electro-priests.
What I really want to do is ti take the Dunerider and reolace all crew, perhaps except the main gunner, and try to put Imperial Guard in there. This way it can become a landing craft for my Marine style Guard regiment.
thinking of making grooves in the wings to give it a more metal sheet look, could give it a better suiting look maybe?
I agree that the vanguard/ranger kit is the best one in their range. Also, the FW robots are infinitely better than the kastellans.
Overall, I like the vast majority of their range and adore just how varies and eclectic their army looks. It's one of the best forces GW has produced from a uniqueness and aesthetic standpoint and I would love them to turn the same designers' attention towards Xenos next. Imagine them designing the new aspect warriors, Tyranid biomorphs, or Tau auxiliaries.
I think I’d rather use delaque gang w/ these guys (Rangers/vanguard) for dark mech. Would that even work? Or are the delaque boys just too big?
wonder if one could use the rifles of the Skitarii Rangers on some Cities of Sigmar Age of Sigmar stuff. Will get some spare rifles when I make the Vanguard troops...
I am very tempted by mechanicus. But I'm literally out of shelf space at home, so it's all just looking for me for now (though I could not resist getting Cawl. I mean, he's peak Warhammer)
Tbh, electropriests could make awesome slaanesh cultists with right colors. Self-electrocuting for funsies and all. But they do not quite fit with the rest of mechanicus forces. Too many human parts still attached!
Sooo. I’m starting an iron hands army soon with the new leviathan box coming out… now I’m going to need some tech bits and a mechanicus army wouldn’t h u r t
Vanguard helmets on Scions torso look pretty cool.
bought a Skitarii box to kitbash whit some guards men not sure what I whant to turn them into but something.
maybe veteran troops or something else.
Did G.W ever admit that Finecast was a flop and why they thought it failed?
No, not really. They stated that they were taking the range in a different dirction.
Before I watch the video I just wanna say that this range is amazing. If I had been more confident in my painting when I started I would've had these guys instead of Tau. Their new stuff is so wild too.
Cawl's "respirator" is just a big bag of potato chips for him to snack on during combat.
The Sicarian sprue comes with 41 individual weapons. That's enough weapons to fully equip 20 Sicarians.
For the Table Top 40k game, can you have an army comprised of one type of model, for example an army of only Servitors with some tech priest thrown in?
In open play yes, but in most other forms you need a mix. At the lowest point level you only *need* 1-2 "troops" options (Skitarii for example) and an HQ (Cawl, Engineseer, etc.). As you go towards larger games, you'll be required to take Elites, transports, fast-attack, etc. You'll want to take what you can though, don't just leave the extra points open unless you have a very specific reason for doing so.
Cut the little vings on top and the petruding ends of the flying dudes and i think it will fit right in
I feel like the inconsistent model themes mostly comes from the fact that when they originally released, admech and skitarii were different factions, and had slightly different designs. I personally found the skitarii to be much more unique in their implementation of the admech style, and while all their models look different, they all had this esoteric sci-fi look to all their models that the admech priests codex and model line didn't really have. The newer admech models that have come out since they unified the two factions into one are quite good still, but I think they sort of lost the style that the skitarii originally had going for them in favor of some of the more generic-looking styles that the original tech-priest faciton had.
somehow i thought you already did this one. but yea this is my favorite range with the new flyer and the cowboys and the winged dudes and my god i love it. all it needs is some more characters imo
Why do mechanical horses make me think of that cheesy latest Star Wars movie with cheesy horse riders on top of the Death Star ?
Nothing wrong with the tracks on the Katatrophon, if anything the tracks don't need to go that high up from the middle. Ex tanker here
