  • Most of us have come across the terms flat foot, pronation, and bunions. In many cases, these are related problems. Sometimes there are underlying structural conditions that create this inward collapse of the ankle and medial arch.
However, sometimes there are other causes due to footwear such as high heels or the way we’ve trained to move. For example, there is a prevalence of ballet dancers dancing point who’ve developed bunions. The bunions most likely develop due to a combination of weak intrinsic foot strength, excessive pronation, forced turnouts, winging, and the plie position.
There are habitual ways that we organize ourselves in standing and walking that reinforce this pattern of inward collapse of the foot. If we develop better skeletal organization we can reduce the compressive forces and potentially alter the movement patterns contributing to these conditions.
This video will demonstrate two exercises to bring more awareness of how you organize and stack yourself over your feet. You’ll discover what it means to collapse inward (sheer across your ankle) versus aligning to lift up and through your skeleton. Which do you do? Please leave a comment about what you discovered in your alignment.

I sense that the connective tissues need to spiral from the heel to the big toe then as the weight shift is completed across the all of the toes to the fourth toe. So basically a mini inverersion to eversion on every step, at the same time being supported by the external hip rotators. Walking is so complex. I tried the process that you show for years but what developed was overemphasis towards the outside of the foot.
