@@HayMakerMK0310 i have seen windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7. 7 is like the most basic and simple OS of the 2010s, 8 and 8.1 are the tablet slop os, and 10/11 is windows 7 + telemetry. WINDOWS 11 START MENU LOOKS LIKE SLOP. windows 10 start menu is the best imo. since windows 7, 8, and 8.1 are not supported anymore, if i had to choose between 10 and 11, i would choose 10 because no AI and Recall forced into my system.
I think it's a shame that Microsoft have made Windows 10 and 11 so unfriendly to use that we have to down load software to make it usable again. The Windows 11 start menu with the start menu in the middle of the screen is totally in the wrong place. I think it's a stupid place to put it. Because when you have got your web browser or other applications open you cannot see the start menu to get to it easy. The start menu should be on the bottom left or at the top of the screen on the lefts is all right. But not right in the middle of the taskbar like that. Also the Windows 11 start menu is not even a start menu because it just opens out to the control panel. You don't get a list of applications you have installed like you do on the REAL start menu you used to get in Windows 7. I used to use Classic Shell (now called Open Shell) for the same reasons as this. Because I hated the Metro theme on Windows 8 and I had difficulty finding anything on the start screen Also I did not like the look of it either. So Classic Shell did give me a Windows XP style start menu. I am glad they are still developing it for Windows 11. Still Microsoft should provide users with an alternative to the Metro start menu. We shouldn't have to download other programs just to get a proper start menu that we had on Windows 7. That's one of the many problems with using Windows 10 and 11.
It really is a shame. I remember when you could control all the aspects of the user interface in XP and 7, and then from Windows 8 onwards, there has been such a lack of control over the user interface. I also remember people on Windows 8 using start menu apps because of the removal of the start menu
@@technoWZ5598 Yes they did including me. I used Classic Shell on Windows 8 because it was the only way to get the start menu. Now people still have to because Windows 11 is even worse. I don't know why people stay on Windows and put up with it all. They should just leave Windows and try Linux as I have done. Now I am here to stay on Linux. I am never going back to Windows.
It's easy enough to put the start menu at the bottom left without the need for extra software. Sure there remains a lot to complain about, but it's placement shouldn't be just go into the settings and change it back.
I've been using Open Shell for ages now and had used Classic Shell before it. The menu skin I like is Fluent Metro, it's nice and clean and you can add transparency. I forgot how to make the taskbar totally transparent so I got Translucent TB to do it instead. Couple those with System Transparency and you get a really cool look in dark mode.
Yes Roger mate I use Translucent too and have done for a long time now and I am thinking of using Open Shell again because of the pedantic nature of the standard Windows start menu.
I had not known about Open Shell. Have installed it and is so much better than Win11's start menu. Easy to use, and so customisable. Love this one, thanks for posting !
i used Classic shell for years. To the point that I didn't even really know how to use the Windows 10 or Windows 11 start menus. About 2yrs ago I decided to just use the Windows 11 Start menu and I've gotten used to it but I think I'm going to go back to using this and having my Windows 7 start menu.
I started using classic shell from windows 8 until now , sometimes it's more gorgeous & productive to " stick to the classics". Only MicroSh*t what's to teach us something new everytime. Thx Brian&The Team
I don't mind the Windows 11 start menu that much but have used Classic/open shell back in the Windows 8 days. Windows 10 I didn't feel the need to use an alternative start menu but I might try Classic shell once more. Thanks for the reminder.
If Microsoft could let us have more control over the UI, we wouldn't need start menu software to make Windows 11 more usable. So sad that Microsoft is more concerned about money than quality.
I haven't really used the start menu in years (since MS stuffed it from 8.1). I haven't worried about organising anything in the start menu because it's a waste of time. I just use the search function to find what I'm after. When/if I ever do switch over to Win11 it's nice to know there's something like open shell.
Hmm Brian mate I have used tis software in the past and I just might try it again because the current 11 start menu is a tad frustrating to use for example I cannot access This PC without having to type it in the run window and even then it just refers me to Control Panel!! My only concern is that I do like to keep a few things on my taskbar such as Command prompt, Snipping tool, regedit, Settings, Disk Cleanup, and a few other basic things for example and if this software does not keep those pinned items it will be of not much use to me. Now as someone else has commented it is just so maddening that Microsoft have made it necessary to download software such as Open Shell to make out machines more user friendly. Yes mate more of this sort of content please and you have a great Easter weekend too!!
Nice. I think, I will do this. I mean whats the worse that can happen, right? I am already dealing with the worse windows 11 start menu, so I think this is a bit plush. Anyway, have great Easter, see you on the other side.
Thanks, Brian. I am definitely going to get this. I do like Windows 11 but the start menu, nope! Will let you know. Honestly, whoever created the Windows 11 start menu, I think needs evaluating.. lol Have a great long weekend. Thanks for the video. Take care
I have been using since forever. I am running 10 with the old classic shell and I have never had a problem. It doesn't take log to setup. The horror show (that was Windows 8) spurred me on to find classic shell.
Thanks Brian its great to have an alternative to the Win-11 menu which in my opinion is horrid, I use Explorer Patcher for customization but Open Shell would certainly be a great option
Tick the box "Show all settings" and you will get much more options to tweak. Combined with the explorer patcher you can change a lot when it comes to your windows 11 look .. you can put even the taskbar wherever you want.
By the way you can click on the start menu after choosing an option an see what it will look like. If you don't like it then don't click ok an you can just choose another option. in other words as long as you don't click ok you can preview options.
I know what I'm about to ask you about has nothing to do with the topic in this video, but can you recommend a good antivirus software I can buy that works in Windows 11 and MacBook pro, or apple software?

I have a portable drive that that cat knocked off and damaged, I was in the process of super slowly transferring everything off to a new drive, it would transfer at 35mb for about 3 seconds after boot, then thereafter about 300kb. Weird, I tried to use OpenShell on Windows 11 about a month ago and it wouldn't work for nothing. I rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. it drove me nuts. Ended up using Start11.
