@@wl2486 Had a look, and the manufacturing situation is pretty much the same for all BMWs. US cars are tend not to be made in Europe. German cars don't have a bulletproof reputation in the UK, but it isn't uncommon to see >100k mile examples. But yeah, they are expensive to repair when they do go wrong. Out of interest, how often are american cars typically serviced?

I purchased this Jeep in the 5.7l trim as my first vehicle that I paid for when I found a job post-graduation. It was used with 34k miles on it. I liked the X5 back then as well. Looking back, BMW is still the more "luxurious" and "fun" to drive on a road. However, I was not only thinking about that. The Jeep was cheaper, and I lived in an area with snow and wanted to be more outdoorsy. The recent BMW lines are probably still more luxurious and fun to drive, but I see more Jeep WKs on the road nowadays than those X5s. BMWs reliability is not good, but tbf Jeep hasn't been reliable, especially since the FIAT merger. Yet, my Jeep is still going and outlasted my wife's Nissan. When we had a rush hour traffic snowstorm where it made news for people being stranded overnight, I told my wife to take my Jeep, and she rode easily over snow mounds where others struggled. I have rode through muddy wooded areas to get to fishing spots. This was back when I only had "street/road" tires (not all terrain) on the Jeep. We have kids, pets, and outdoor gear. I can't imagine throwing that stuff in a luxurious leather padded BMW. I've said all this to say, I don't think there was ever a real competition between these two vehicles. It is about location and how you plan to use it. Two different audiences imo. Still is in 2022, but Jeep has come a ways a bit with luxurious additions. In retrospect, I'd still make the same purchase if given the choice between the two. It was actually between a 4runner and GC at the time, but Jeep was more affordable. Today, I actually wouldn't purchase either GC or BMW because of reliability issues, and I fix my own vehicles. Looking at an Acura or Toyota. But if you still want a BMW or Jeep, buy what you wish. I actually like the special edition "Trackhawk" Jeep, but that is a whole other conversation in price and niche market.

So I don’t mean anything? I’m just lucky that I don’t get major problems? Or maybe it’s because I know how to take care of a car. Maybe because I buy oem parts only. Maybe because I warm it up before going, maybe it’s because I don’t wait for my parts to break, maybe because when I see the check engine light I don’t just wait and try to see what happens and believe it might go away, maybe also because I accept the expensive prices to pay in a car that was expensive. It’s a cool suv, the original sporty suv on the market. The fastest suv if it’s time. I’ve taken my X5 almost everywhere, live in the north east where it gets 103F in the summer and entire cold winter below 40F or even -4F on some days, salty roads, snow all the time, driven through floods, went real off-roading without any mods on the car just tires, went camping and not once did it leave me stranded, not once with it’s reliable M54 engine that everyone in the bmw community knows it’s the most easiest to maintain and reliable but only outsiders like you claim shit like unreliability without having an experience and do not try claiming you had an X5 for the sake to prove a point. It’s always you people who never owned anything high end to say some bs reliability issues. Every suv that’s high end have people like you who can’t wait to type reliability issues without knowing, or taking care of it correctly as if it were some cheap vehicle that takes basic maintenance. Luxury SUVs from Germany are complex and are amazing to drive and what makes them amazing is the experience and tech when they break it’s not cheap. No tech has damaged in my X5 but sensors in the engine, inside I haven’t replaced a thing. No I do not have issues with transmission, or a damn transfer case. And even if I did have trans issues 1. it’s made by GM and not by ZF like the 6 speed some options had, 2. I never changed the trans oil so It would be my fault if its stiff when shifting. Issues I’ve had were oil housing and head gaskets which were at high milage, replaced control arms, suspension, tie rods, rear camber issues, fan belt, alternator and the mass air flow, simple shit that normal Toyota’s would have changed out in high milage but in a real car that it’s cool and definitely not boring like you Toyota fans. My X5 has no rust, it’s washed every 3 days in the winter, no swirl marks and a few chips on the hood, well taken care of and never will sell it, I’ll just be adding cars into my collection.

The main advantage of the Jeep vs the BMW is the bill you get after every service. The next best thing is the good old reliable US built performance and reliability compared to some fancy European car. Plus the Jeep's design is timeless, you could arrive somewhere in a 20 year old Jeep and attract a lot more attenion than you would from a dated looking 20 year old European SUV.

If you live in the U.S, that explains why you don’t see X5s on the road. People over here are cheap asf and when they buy an X5 for cheap they think they’re suppose to treat it like how they got it..BMWs don’t take regular fuel, regular oil, they don’t stand over 7k+ mile oil changes, these BMWs don’t like acceleration when cold abuse, and the biggest dumb move, which my dad was when he had one was buying cheap parts thinking they do the job right, they fix problems temporarily then a few months later same issue but worse and damaging other parts then replaced them with even more garbage lol. BMWs are reliable there’s only a handful of engines from bmw that are troublesome but if you know how to maintain a car correctly bmw will last. These cars aren’t simple Toyota’s you see on the road they’re high performance no matter the price you see used for a 10+ year old build date which Americans really fail to understand, everywhere else in the world seems to take care of there cars. We don’t see German people complain about there X5s and Range rovers or the U.K..

WK/WH can actually do offroading with it's Quadra Drive 2, unlike x5, so x5 is kinda more onroad soccermom vehicle 🤷‍♂️ And how much did they cost back in the day brand new, if you compare best trim lvl of each vehicle? Just because they're similar in size and shape (x5 doesn't look as good tho...) and are considered "SUV's" doesn't mean they're actually competitors in the same class of car, because let's face it... if you want something that'll get you from home to grocerystore or soccer practice and costs more to buy, maintain and repair AND you don't mind getting stuck everywhere where tarmac ends, you get x5. If you want something more capable, you get WK/WH 😅 Naturally if you're from UK, you don't want a Jeep, because we all know brits are biased, which shows in this video (making it not very professional and absolutely irrelevant opinion).

I own one rn, just a V6 sport. However I feel as tho it’s probably a lot better for roads than whatever he’s driving. The turning is smooth but it’s not as springy, the front is lower than the back so the seating feels correct. The plastic? I mean, i don’t ever touch it besides to call her a amazing

Th X5 is a superb car but the ride isn't great at all, hence why it handles so well. Ours broke and cost quite a bit over the years. The diesels were brilliant but the .46 and 4.8 all blew their valve stem seals and seats, and gaskets, and other stuff. Never driven a WK but the interior does look cack on the base models. Owned a ZJ and loved that despite it being a bit dated.

England has always been cross with the US since they copied the Jeep Wagoneer and made the Range Rover, they couldn't even design their own engine for it.

Technically, the X5 is a SAV not SUV. Well.. that’s how BMW markets it as.

Dumb comment: He wants a Street car, but has two Suv to compare… this is like he wants a penguin(Street car), but uses a Sea gull(BMW) and a shark(Jeep)… like wtf when you want a Road car, why even talking bad about a Offroad car? Doesnt make sense, yes it is bullshit on road, because its not a freakin Lamborghini my boi. The X5 is like a car that is not good at anything, huge but no luggage space, slow and cheap quality, this car is not made for highways, and as soon as one wheel is contacting a piece of grass it doesnt go anywhere due to traction loss. Jeep tho is like death (wobble) on highways, leans like a roller coaster in turns and really bounces around with its soft suspension, but o damn does this boi go trough the woods, throw at it whatever you want, it will somehow do it.
