Magnificent! And why does it make me so emotional? Days of my youth, perhaps? If so its odd as they were not particularly happy. Days when we felt that Britain really knew what she was doing and we were proud of our achievements and looked forward with optimism ? That's probably more of it, I think. I had (still have, actually) a Hornby doublo set withe the Duchess of Athol loco.
Hi and thank you for such an interesting comment. We have a lot to thank "Sir Billy" for, as two of his "saved" express locomotives still run on the mainline today and another two are in national collections! Kind regards, Alan
Superb video Alan. It’s great to see Duchess in the West Country. Well captured her working well and fantastic panning. Enjoyable watching. Kind regards C&A
Hi folks: this is the third time I have tried posting a response to you, something seems to have blocked my first attempts! Hopefully my thanks and appreciation of your kind feedback will reach you this time? Best wishes, Alan
6233 A testament to William A Stanier's masterpiece of Engineering.Truly ,utterly, wonderful to see this magnificent machine in all her glory.Long may she steam.
Hi Tony, nice to hear from you and to receive your kind feedback. Notice the tender waggle as she comes under the bridge... pretty alarming! Best regards, Alan
Excellent video Alan. Well done. I wasn't too far from you at Tigley over bridge. I did think about the field but didnt have long to set up so chose the bridge, Geraint
Would love to take a steam train excursion - how do I find out about their schedule? Have to make plans well in advance since I live in US. Thanks for the wonderful pictures.

Hello Richard and thank you for you valued feedback. I'll have to take your word for it about the 1940's as I can only remember back to the 1950's! Kind regards, Alan
46233 or 6233 she takes so much cleaning with the oil and parofinn but she is still THEE very Best locomotive and she still has a lot of appeal to the many volunteers who look after her
Don't think about what didn't help in the background. Nothing as strong as a storm will ever defeat Duchess of Sutherland. My 14th Driving & Firing session, with 5 inch gauge steamy Holy War on the Llangollen Railway, occurred just as a thunderstorm approached. It didn't deter me, so Martin held a large umbrella over my head. I'm not afraid of thunderstorms in general, and I wasn't about to let this one put me off. Nothing stands in my way, when something fun like this comes along. Duchess of Sutherland and I are both made of sterner stuff, believe me.
I must say that I had not noticed but it is SPOOKY because as you may or may not know, there were water troughs at that EXACT location in B.R. days!!!!!! In fact at 3:51 you can see the roof of the buildings associated with the troughs. Well spotted. Regards, Alan
Good great film thanks - yes she flew...but the Duchess did'nt overpower Hemerdon (Neither do the new Hitachi's). Incidently the Duchess is my favourite steam loco!
Hello Richard and thank you for your valued comments. I have seen what happened on Hemerdon: "pacific meets wrong kind of rain" maybe? Best regards, Alan
Hi Michael and thank you for the fun comment. I think you may be even more impressed with her performance on the clip I have just uploaded: th-cam.com/video/o0aytEsRf5I/w-d-xo.html Kind regards, Alan
How well turned is that, just beautiful to watch, the ultimate Pacific. Thanks Alan, you've cracked it again
Cheers Bob for the great feedback again, it is very much appreciated. Best regards, Alan
Beautiful train! My husband and I just returned from several train trips in the UK last month. However, none were this beautiful!!!
Power and beauty in one.
Amen to that! Many thanks for your comment. Regards, Alan
such a beautiful machine
Now that's a steam engine and the scenery is fantastic as well
Thank you for your welcome feedback Vivian. Regards, Alan

Many thanks Moss, your kind comments are very much appreciated. Best regards, Alan

Hi Stephen and many thanks for your kind feedback, I really appreciate it. Best regards, Alan
They had this beautiful machine on display outside a Butlins camp not far from where I live at the heads of Ayr. Good to see her in action.

Hello William and thank you for your comment, I could not agree more! Regards, Alan
Talk of A4s , A1s Kings! , Merchant Navy Class (no2 behind the Duchess) the Duchess is No1
@@Steamclips German NAZI DRB Class 50 led to the Evening Star. It must be said that Stanier's Duchess was inferior, very heavy and inefficient.
Tommy Coleman of Derby Loco Works actually. Stanier just signed Tom's drawings.... Read up please . . .
Fantastic shot there Alan especially seeing the duchess of Sutherland on the railtour
Hi Scott and thank you for your kind remarks. Take a close look at the tender as she comes under the bridge at Exminster! Best regards, Alan
yes I have indeed look at the tender alan
Excellent video, especially like the shots At Exminster. Thanks for the share. Kind regards. Tony.
Hi Tony, nice to hear from you and to receive your kind feedback. Notice the tender waggle as she comes under the bridge... pretty alarming! Best regards, Alan

He’s really shifting abit at exminster crossing Alan
3:50
I like that clip, i keep skipping until i found that clip, also i never knew she was fast!
Hello Isaiah and thank you for your much appreciated feedback. Trains at high speed look really fast from close-up at the lineside. Kind regards, Alan
Love seeing engines running on their own steam fully instead of being pushed by a Diesel
As a boy I would sneek into Willesden sheds and get in the cab of these engines when they were hot and touch the controls.
Thank you for such interesting reminiscences Tony. Kind regards, Alan
That shot at 3:00 - epic!
Thank you Mark, I really appreciate that. Best regards, Alan

The engine is all very well. But I was looking at the scenery. Rolling hills, green grass, hedged paddocks. Just so different from where I live.
Hi and thank you for your kind and interesting comment. Best regards from (currently) a very wet Devon!
It's much better to see a matching colour train set....
It is spelt Colour.
@@williamwoolhouse3702 fixed
But do you agree?
Yes just imagine an A4 Pacific with a matching set of coaches
@@chrisinnes2128 I prefer LNER with a full teak set...
Lovely, and without a diesel on the back end either.

3:08 That is just a sight everyone wants to see.
Thank you for your valued comment Dexter. Regards, Alan
@@Steamclips You are very welcome.
Nice one
Cheers Terry. Best regards, Alan
I don't care if the coaches aren't original LMS coaches, what matters is that they're also crimson!
It certainly makes a difference! Thanks for your valued comment. Regards, Alan
I love steam locomotive beautifull look
Thank you for your valued comment Muhammad. Regards, Alan
