Without a doubt, this is one of the best vids I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you. I always thoroughly enjoy your films and admire the skilful way you link the shots with atmospheric and absorbing scenic images and sound - they usually leave me feeling extremely homesick! For this film, you found some superb locations, and the shot of DoS slogging up Hemerdon bank is truly magical.
Great video. As a child I often travelled with the family from Plymouth to Paddington, London, and well remember the slog up Hemerdon Bank, just east of Plymouth. In those days Castle class steam locos went up slowly but steadily. They were replaced by 'Warship' diesels which seemed to struggle horribly. Thankfully. they were, in turn, replaced by Western class diesels which powered up without too much trouble.
Beautifully composed as is usual with your photography. Still mightily impressive locomotive. Stunning Crimson Lake. Contrasts with the’soft’ Devon landscape so different from our Pennines. Thank you for your video.
excellent shots of the duchess👍 it struggled a bit on that incline i wish they would bring it to Kent i don't know why there's no Steam much here there use to be all there is is the flying scotsman last March and Mayflower in August 😟
Today a friend and I were discussing The Duchess of Sutherland so I thought I'd look it up on TH-cam and amongst others I came across this production. Some really good video shots giving a very atmospheric production... However perhaps for future videos you could stand somewhere away from ambient noise such as cars on the road were filming from, and even when you did find a quiet spot there was the sound of a camera shutter being activated which was evident whilst listening on headphones. I realise that to get the full effect the camera microphone has to be on, but if future videos could be produced without the background noise they would not be good but great productions.
Ah, the breath holding Hemerdon, pretty impressive with that load and no smelly thing on the back!!! Great shooting as usual Matthew, that last shot was excellent pulled👍🏻 You looking for properties in the countryside by any chance???☺😃😀
The crew certainly handled her very well up Hemerdon. I don't see the aversion towards diesel tail-gunners - I just wish they were painted in more heritage liveries. Glad you enjoyed the video, Bob! If the money was free flowing...
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel No aversion to tail end charlies, (even if they do call it positioning) there's nothing like a whiff of diesel fumes, but it's always good to see a steamer doing it on her own👍🏻👍🏻
Wonderful stack talk out of her!
Was very impressive, and unexpected in the heat on the day.
the group that owns her have a website or a TH-cam channel?

I always feel sorry for an old girl of her age being made to work that hard. Beautiful video. All the best Mick.
Beautiful. Wonderful. Thank you. A train lover from Philadelphia.
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
4:20 No exaggerated whistling, no excessive waste of steam at the cylinder taps - just full power delivery! That's how it should be! 😎😎😎

I enjoyed that very much. As always!
Many thanks. 😊
Great shots, great to see a steamer taking a train without a diesel helper. Those Inter City power cars are also classics.
Some spectacle climbing Hemerdon ! Complimented by equally good footage at other scenic locations. Some very professional panning. Thanks for sharing.
Certainly was an impressive slog
Glad you enjoyed the video
Excellent video.
Thank you for sharing - bit of a struggle up the incline but made it nevertheless.
Al.
Great shot of her labouring up the grade. Well done Matthew.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed

@@bobingram6912 I trust you Bob to appreciate such things. But it seems there are a few where the presence of a diesel is such a dealbreaker.
Precisely the job where you don't need a blowing piston gland.
Wonderful video, big thumbs up :)
Thank you
No overhead wires here?
Correct
I do hope it has an effective spark arrestor with all that smike being blasted into the air
