    The ZX7 is a powerful option for the better player. Your excellent swing demonstrates the consistency of these irons really well. They deserve to sell well and will probably be a breakthrough iron for Srixon.

    Bought a pre-owned set of ZX5 irons with the 4-PW configuration, in the simulator the sound of the ZX5 is quite a "clunky" sort of sound that may be off-putting for some players, but on the course it sounds quite good and non-offensive. Saved a good 250$ getting a used set that was very lightly used. For those that like the feel of a forged iron this set might be worth trying out.

    When you look at the grouping of the zx7 that is very hard to beat. Your grouping of the Wilson blades is also pretty good. I have seem several reviews that show both these irons are deadly consistent and accurate. However, one can not find this criteria when searching for players irons. Would you do a demo of just iron to iron how close to the pin do you get?

    I've learned from my trackman 4 studio that When hitting off mats especially with a thicker sole iron you are prone to bigger variations with spin rate simply because it's harder to strike consistently down on the ball like you can on grass because the mat pops the club back up and gives you almost a flier type shot occasionally. With a thinner sole it's not as bad on mats. Out on grass I don't see it happen like I do on a mat in the studio.

    I just bought the new Z5s(steel stiff). Absolutely love em. So i am 9 hc. In the last few years i used Titleist AP2 (710 and then 716) - great clubs and very accurate. I switched to the easier Z5 coz they are so much more forgiving and added a bit more distance. I prefer to fade the ball, and the Z5 let me work the ball more than the AP2 716s. I do realise i have lost a lot of spin on my shorter irons but i can lice with that. Plus i use PW to 5, and carry Vokey wedges 50, 56 & 62. Tempted to replace the PW with my older AP2 PW.
    I developed a golf elbow, so the extra forgiveness plus distance is absolutely fantastic.

    Hi Michael. Great video! I just got fitted for a full set of ZX5s. But I'm wondering if the fact the the wedge is 44deg and my gap wedge is 50deg could be an issue. I spoke with another staff member at the shop today and asked his advice on maybe instead blending the ZX7s in from 8I - PW. He informed me that the COG is quite low in the 5s so the gapping should be fine. Would you trust that to be true? Another reason I considered blending was due to the consistency/accuracy of the 7s at the lower end.

    • @hawksterzzz
      @hawksterzzz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same issue, but then got a 48 deg wedge and then that fixed it for me

  • @jeremyrepp6544

    To the difference in sound on the ZX5... It's not a one-piece forging, so can't really expect that. 1020 carbon steel body and a different type/grade forged steel face which is welded to the body. (SUP10 steel is what Srixon says the face is made of).

      Michael probably won't see this and comment but my feeling is that the sound is similar to the Z545, Z565 and the Z585. The Z565 I play feel soft compared to the Callaway irons I had before. The "click" sound probably being amplified by those walls where he's doing the test. On the course they won't feel as soft as the ZX7 but can't imagine them being loud.

    • @kourt2469
      @kourt2469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If anything the sound would be less clicky than the 585 because it's an enclosed cavity vs the open cavity so the sound would be muted compared to the open cavity of the 585. But I play the 585 and they don't seem very clicky to me.

      I have been using the Z745 for the last 5 years, beautiful irons, love them, however I just turned 60 and I need the extra yards, still want forged though!. Just been fitted for the ZX5, very nice, gotta love those birthday golf gift vouchers!. Yes I gained an extra 5-6 metres but the feel was still excellent. Went with 6 iron to gap wedge, I really wanted the 50 degree in the same irons. Looking at the Zipcore wedges in 56 & 60, love the V sole, so I want it in the wedges as well. They are not due to arrive until mid April, so time to get the old Z745's irons regripped, going midsize Tour velvet, this time, have them in the hybrids and they feel much better is my hands!

    Interesting that in your head to head tests you got longer carry with both the Taylor Made P7MC (190.8) and Mizuno JPX921 Tour (184.3) than with the Srixon ZX7 (175.6) even though the loft on the Srixon ZX7 7 iron is 32 degrees, while the loft on both the TM P7MC 7 iron and the Mizuno JPX921 Tour 7 iron is 34 degrees. You had quite a bit more club head speed with both the TM and Mizuno clubs (89.4 and 90.0 respectively) than with the Srixon (87.7). However, the Srixon had a higher ball speed (124.4) than the TM (123.6) or the Mizuno (121.9). So in other words, the more traditional weaker forged blade lofts on the TM and Mizuno irons are not penalizing the player, at least not you, at all. Brooks Koepka is using the Srixon ZX7 irons, while Colin Morikawa is using the TM P7MC irons. Also, a related question. In a YT video with a test of the TM P7MB, the tester stated he had the lofts custom set at 2 degrees stronger, all else standard. The TM web site has a custom order template showing you can order the P7MB 7 irons with loft changes from minus 2 to plus 2 degrees. I would be interested to hear your thinking on that. If you really liked the look and feel of a muscle back blade but wanted a bit more carry, would having the loft set stronger be a good idea in your view? Have you tested a club you like best with both its standard and strengthened lofts?

    Geez, that crack is not inviting at all. Much respected brand. Bit of a shame.

    Why do you call it "zed x 7 instead of zx7?

    Every club you test "sounds a little bit clicky". It's your ball that is clicky, rather than the clubs. TP5X is the "clickiest" premium ball there is.

      If that were the case, both sets would have sounded clicky, but he clearly stated that the zx7 sounded quite different.

    No way these irons had the same shaft in them resulting in such a huge dispersion difference. Pull the heads, swap the shafts and do the test again starting with the ZX7.

    The bad for me is they are Dunlop clubs that say Srixon on them. I don't aspire to play Dunlop clubs. Although there is a Cleveland 58 degree wedge I used to have, and miss.

      That a pretty dumbflop comment of yours" you should really research dunlop and the different industries that it actually plays a major role in. #idiot

    Why did you not mention that Srixon raised the price 30% over the Z585 & Z785 $ 999.00 VS % 1299.00 USD. They definitely lost the Best Bang for the buck story by doing that.

    I don't like the looks of these. This is srixons worst iron offering in several years in my opinion. I think I'll stick with my Z765s and maybe buy some z785s on discount in the future.

    I can tell you’re trying to reduce the : ‘SORT OF’ perpetual repetition, which spoils the analysis because it’s so distracting. At least it’s not every other word now. So, well done and keep trying as it is appreciated.

    You're obsessed with clicks. Can a mid handicapper notice clicks more than any other club?
    Are the clubs excessively expensive, like a Mizuno, Taylormade, Titleist. "Good shot though..." that is what we want to hear.

    You know the ZX5 isn’t a forged head? You should. Do your homework.
